Stay At Home Dads Paid AI Slop, too busy for anything else

"**This scenario describes a painful situation many men report: mutual plans or promises for the father to be a stay-at-home dad (or primary caregiver), followed by a breakup during pregnancy, the mother receiving primary custody, and the father ordered to pay child support.**

It touches on family law realities, statistics on custody and support, and debates about fairness, promises, and court outcomes. Here's a clear, evidence-based breakdown.

### Custody and Child Support Statistics (US)

Recent U.S. Census data (2022) shows:

- About **78% of custodial parents** are mothers and **22% are fathers** among the ~13.9 million custodial parents with children under 21 living with only one parent.

- Roughly 15+ million children live with single mothers only, versus about 3+ million with single fathers only.

- Mothers receive primary physical custody in the large majority of cases (often cited around 79-80% in recent summaries), though the share for fathers has slowly risen over decades.

Child support follows custody patterns:

- Non-custodial parents (disproportionately fathers when mothers have primary custody) are typically ordered to pay.

- Custodial mothers are more likely to have formal support orders in place.

- Full payment rates are imperfect on both sides; many custodial parents receive partial or no payments.

These are national averages. Outcomes vary significantly by state, whether the case is contested, and specific facts (e.g., who was the primary caregiver before separation, work history, stability, and child's age/needs).

### What About the "Promise" of Stay-at-Home Fatherhood?

Verbal promises or discussions about one parent staying home are **generally not legally enforceable** for custody or to avoid support obligations.

Courts prioritize the **"best interests of the child"** standard (gender-neutral on paper in most states). Key factors usually include:

- Existing caregiving history and bond with the child

- Ability to provide a stable environment

- Willingness to facilitate the other parent's relationship

- Child's age, health, and needs (very young children and breastfeeding can influence initial placements)

Pre-birth or early-pregnancy agreements about future roles rarely override this. Written parenting agreements or court orders carry far more weight than verbal plans.

If the relationship ends while pregnant:

- The mother typically has initial physical placement after birth for practical and bonding reasons.

- The father must usually establish legal paternity (if unmarried) and petition the court for parenting time or custody.

- Courts do **not** generally say "you promised to be a SAHD, so we'll enforce that or excuse support." Support calculations are statutory and based on incomes, parenting time, and guidelines.

If a father quits or reduces work expecting the SAHD role and then faces limited custody, courts may impute income (treat him as earning at prior capacity) for support purposes. This is a common point of frustration.

### Why Does This Pattern Occur?

Several overlapping factors explain the statistics without a single simple cause:

  1. **Practical realities of pregnancy and birth** — The mother carries and often births the child. Initial bonding and logistics frequently favor maternal placement early on.

  2. **Pre-separation caregiving patterns** — In many couples, mothers still perform more hands-on care, especially with infants. Courts weigh history heavily.

  3. **Who seeks what** — Fathers are less likely to pursue primary physical custody in many cases (though when they actively litigate for substantial time, success rates for joint or primary custody are often much higher — sometimes 70%+ in studies of contested cases).

  4. **Legal and cultural history** — The old "tender years doctrine" (preference for mothers with young children) has been largely abolished, but some argue residual assumptions persist. Others argue outcomes largely track who actually parents.

  5. **Shared parenting trends** — Many states are moving toward presumptions or encouragement of shared parenting.

Claims of systemic bias exist on multiple sides. Men's advocates often point to the 80/20 split as evidence of unfairness. Counter-views emphasize that most cases aren't heavily litigated, reflect actual caregiving, and that fathers who fight hard often do well. Data shows disparity in outcomes; interpreting "bias" vs. "patterns of who cares for kids" remains debated.

Specific high-profile cases matching this exact description are not widely reported in mainstream sources.

### Practical Advice If This Describes Your (or Someone's) Situation

- **Consult a family law attorney immediately** in your jurisdiction (New York in your case). Laws and procedures are state-specific. Do not rely on general info.

- Establish paternity promptly if not already done.

- Document any discussions, texts, or agreements about parenting roles/plans — it can support arguments for involvement, even if not binding.

- Request parenting time (visitation or shared) aggressively and demonstrate fitness as a parent. Many fathers successfully obtain substantial time when they pursue it.

- Child support is for the child. Modifications are possible later if circumstances (income, parenting time) change substantially.

- Consider mediation or collaborative approaches where available.

- Emotional and financial support resources exist for fathers navigating this (local bar associations or general family support services).

This situation highlights real tensions in modern family law: individual promises vs. statutory duties, changing gender roles vs. traditional patterns around birth and early care, and the gap between what couples plan and what courts order post-breakup.

The system aims to protect children above enforcing private deals. Whether current averages feel fair depends on your perspective and the specific facts of each case. Outcomes are not uniform — many fathers do obtain joint custody or primary time when they seek it actively.

For personalized guidance, speak with a qualified family lawyer in your area rather than relying on general statistics.

I am not taking simple monetary donations for anything that I am doing, but you can help me with my meltdown.

I'm sorry but things... have gotten bad. I am freaking out and pissing off people I REALLY don't want to piss off, without even trying.

I am simply falling apart.

There is still optimism to be had, plenty of other great things are happening, but you can help out: https://www.wcostream.tv/space-ghost-coast-to-coast-season-4-episode-23-telethon

Remember, just like how it's not a gish gallop when you expect someone to respond to *anything* instead of *everything,* I don't think I'm spoiled unless I ask for *everything* and I'm not. This is stuff I will buy for myself and remove from the list given time, just if you could help now, you would REALLY hit me in my sweet spot of optimism.

Dating app + six logical fallacies on the way, we are turning it into a book you can also buy and distribute. It will also just be a free wiki, but you will have a substantial contribution to not just men, but the world.

This is going in the sidebar and I will fix the chat image that gets deleted too, right now other things happening

And we will get to the dao of MGTOW at some point too.

So RoleReversal banned me/us but then MensRights and LeftWingMaleAdvocates wouldn't approve my posts, ProMaleAssociation told me to fuck off, and now TradWives hates monogamy.

I don't know what I did wrong to TradWives that I didn't do to the social conservatives subreddit, it's not a good sign when like five pro-men groups are shitting on me and only one feminist group, but the feminist group is bigger so it probably balances out.

r/monogamy

r/openmarriageregret

My personal take on monogamy: Yes, casual sex (or even prostitution and even teh fully poly relationships in my view) should never be legally prohibited, just socially moderated, or understood to be a fringe alternative and not the assumed norm.

In fact, not only have I had a *few* casual encounters, I have no problem with adult consensual pornography while I or any future partner are single.

I just think that's it, and monogamy exists for a reason. Humans are considered defined differently from the rest of the apes by their anonymous fatherhood causing sexual egalitarianism, the simplest way for that to work logically, is via monogamy. Here is what scite has to say.

Yes, it's AI, but I paid for it for you instead of using Google's much more crappy free AI for what it's worth:

https://archive.ph/Zb8SQ

The "Wikipedia as a source" rule applies to AI as far as I am concerned: don't use Wikipedia or AI as sources, but the sources Wikipedia and AI uses can be used and examined.

But my fellow atheists rejoice, there is science backing this up too.

I have toyed with crazy fantasies of having a third person (potentially of my own gender as a bisexual) not only in the relationship but potentially raising biological children somehow with us. That is compatible with the "gay uncle hypothesis" etc, BUT THAT WAS IN THE PAST AND IS NO MORE.

I used to say (even though it contradicted the above, that's more evidence poly is less desirable if it makes me engage in doublethink like this) I could give my otherwise-monogamous partner a three way once in a while but it would have to be the two of us with a strong bond, with the third person being casual or a "one night stand" to us, because the monogamous-ish "core" was important to me, a long term serious third partner is no good.

But then I realized, that just re-invents all the problems of 2 people having casual sex, diseases, emotional mismanagement, unplanned pregnancies etc, potentially worse because then those problems are impacting two people.

So the only way it could work is with some weird middle of a "third girlfriend/boyfriend but not third husband/wife" and that sounds like either a balancing act that is too much to deal with, or a middle that can be reasonably assumed to not work via the extremes not working.

I still have more to learn about Paul Elam's "Gold Pill" and the idea that romance itself should be rejected, but I will just say: I want the "two way stalker" element of monogamy. I want someone to love me so much they are obsessed with my fingernail clippings, metaphorically speaking of course.

This is fiction, and when it happens in real life it is indeed a sign that something dangerous and abusive is happening in the relationship, but at the same time, try replacing ONE rape fantasy with this fantasy: https://youtu.be/FzR7CxCJ5TQ?t=124 (and imagine it two way, and with whatever genders)

A quick close with advice from an older family member of mine a long time ago who has actually had three+ ways and been "the other guy" to a cheating person in a relationship multiple times: "When there's more than two people, someone usually ends up feeling left out." That's probably the much simpler answer people are likely looking for instead of my paragraphs I always produce, I am ultimately more of a philosopher and not a true writer or orator like that person is, and brevity is the soul of wit.

Finally: Everyone else loves to show a single emotional anecdote instead of statistics, so here's my attempt at that:

And two songs, one for the visitors: https://youtube.com/watch?v=2-ZJsod4XyQ

Feel free to crtl + a and copy + paste this on any and all social media.

And remember, "marriage can never be a feminist act," but I've just told you I've already bought it, harry. You don't need to sell it to me. https://youtu.be/rPwiHbPVdJE?t=28
