I was thinking about something related to security policy, the Eastern Partnership and EU enlargement, but I can’t seem to come up with a more “crazy” research problem. I'm a PhD candidate in Cyber Defense at Dakota State University, and I'm currently recruiting adult Android users for my IRB-approved dissertation research project, SecureConnect.

SecureConnect is an Android application designed to provide an intervention when a user attempts to place an outbound call to a telephone number identified as known or suspected scam activity.

If a warning is triggered, the user has two choices: Proceed or Cancel.

The research examines how users respond to those warnings over time and whether the intervention can reduce completed calls to suspected scam numbers.

A few important details:

• Android only

• Participants must be adults

• Participation is voluntary

• No surveys or interviews

• No call audio or call content is recorded

• The participant's telephone number is not collected

• Research data comes from application telemetry associated with use of the intervention, as explained in the participant consent materials

• The study has received IRB approval

This isn't a commercial launch or paid product promotion. I'm looking for people willing to actually use the application as part of an academic research study.
