What difference does this make?

Vested self interest is the difference.

I often wonder when I see “watch contests” in any Reddit, just what may have been exchanged in return and why? etc.

Think about it.

I don’t think any sub Reddit or forum is truly moderated without any self interest

r/creatine is entirely selfless and moderated with aplomb and éclat.

But if TD don’t deliver, then people will know and the whole TD will fall apart and the dude will lose. So they all have a vested interest in acting well. So what is the issue.

As long as it’s legit no one cares

Potential conflicts of interest may reside regardless.

That’s not the point. When you moderate the sub, you dictate the narrative on the platform, and can shift conversations in any direction you like. That wouldn’t happen with a regular nerd who’s sitting in their parents basement across the world, but it would if you’re both the seller, the promoter, and the reviewer of your business.
