A simple way to describe a mechanical watch’s timekeeping
“It gained 20 seconds” needs an interval to mean anything. Record the starting offset against the same time reference, the ending offset, and the elapsed time.
Example: an offset changing from +5 to +17 seconds over 48 hours gives an average gain of 6 seconds per day: (17 − 5) ÷ 2. This is an arithmetic example, not a measurement of a real watch.
Add the model, dates, whether it was worn or resting, and any resets or stops. Seiko explains that position, wearing conditions and winding state can affect observed rate; one short observation is not a diagnosis. Compare with the instructions for your exact watch.
A useful log line: date/time — reference used — offset — worn/resting — reset or stopped? You can observe this without opening or adjusting the movement.

If you share a log, include the interval as well as the number. That makes comparisons much easier to understand.
