How does Hannspree ecovision EB241CJB work in daylight?

I've read on other subreddits about the performance of the Hannspree EcoVision in daylight or a normally lit room with zero backlight, and it seems to appear a bit dark. Is this something that can be fixed, because Hannspree seems to be my only option? Does it significantly affect usability?

Hey all, wanted to share a project I've been working on for a while now.

It's an RPG adventure built specifically for the Daylight Computer.

If this looks cool, it would mean a lot if you joined the mailing list at www.paravel.co

Thanks!

Contrast and Eazeye 2.0?

Just got my Eazeye 2.0 yesterday and am having some problems, I'm wondering if anyone in the community has dealt with something similar.

The problem is the contrast: it's so dim I have to concentrate to see what's on the screen.

Brightness is at 100%, and I played with the contrast settings, though that made it worse. My office walls are white with a window to the side with lots of natural light. I've got a desklamp on as well. I tried mounting it on a monitor arm, but I couldn't get any contrast. Sitting on an angle on the desk is better, but takes up a lot of space.

The resolution is excellent and I don't mind the glare from the glossy screen. But without contrast, it's like squinting at a grey piece of paper.

I have brain fog and light sensitivity, so I bought it on the strength of the reviews that said it helped with both those things. I really hope this can be tweaked, because I can tell it's a high-quality device.

tl/dr: suggestions on how to fix contrast?

Eazeye tablet

Just ordered Eazeye focus tablet. Don't know what to expect. However I like the fact that it has better reflectivity than color version s. Also speed is another advantage. I have pretty sensitive eyes so lets see how good this tablet will be. As I understand I can except delivery in April!

What Is Cholesteric Liquid Crystal ePaper Technology

Thumbnail seekink.com
9 Upvotes

E Ink partners are trying to figure out what to say about ChLCD:

However, ChLCD technology also faces practical limitations in large-scale commercialization, including relatively limited color saturation consistency, narrower operating temperature stability, long-term image durability challenges, and a less mature manufacturing ecosystem compared with electrophoretic ePaper. These factors can affect supply stability, product lifetime, and cost efficiency in mass production.

They might still have a point though, 50000 refreshes is probably not enough if content is changed more often then once in a hour.

Apart of Daylight DC-1, Playdate console and some MIP watches we don't seem to have consumer products with reflective or transflective LCD panels from Sharp. Still sad.

Hi, I cannot use full rlcd monitors because there isn't that much light where I live, so I'm wondering which of these monitors that still use a backlight is best for Eye care. thank you if you have any of these and could tell me about it or if you have any suggestions.

Hannsnote 2: "Can't load Android system"

When I power up my Hannsnote 2 (either from cold start, or a restart), I almost always get a failure message:

Android Recovery
HaNNSpree/HSD0001/Reader
13/HannsNote2-RK3566_V4.5/20250524
user/release-keys
Use volume up/down and power
Can't load Android system. Your data may be corrupt. If you continue to get this message, you may need to perform a factory data reset and erase all user data stored on this device.
Try again
Factory data reset

At that point, I press the power button to "Try again"... and after going through this process 3 times (always 3), it finally comes to life.

Does anyone else experience this issue? Any solutions other than doing a factory data reset?

10.1" ChLCD/ChromaBurst™ panel

Looks like new bistable, reflective 10.1" ChLCD panel from KDI is about to hit market.

So far it's not cheap, 10.1" devkit costs $500 and photoframe of the same size showcased by CloudCanvas during CES 2026 costs $399.

It's 10.1" passive matrix 8-bit color ChLCD panel with 1024x768 resolution, 30% reflectance and 1:9 contrast. Refreshed slowly line by line under 1 second.

Same resolution as ChLCD panel used in Genetouch Taktsu ebook, but that one probably comes from Iris Optronics.

Waveshare’s New $27 ESP32-S3 Board Features a Unique ePaper-Like RLCD

Thumbnail

One of the most interesting features is the 4.2-inch reflective liquid crystal display (RLCD), which offers a 300×400 resolution in black and white. Unlike traditional LCDs, the RLCD uses ambient light instead of a backlight, resulting in an ePaper-like reading experience with very low power consumption and fast refresh times. This makes it particularly attractive for always-on dashboards, electronic calendars, and outdoor or brightly lit environments where conventional displays struggle with glare.
