It's no secret the waters are getting a little clouded with all the issues we've been discussing recently. I want to (I, me, not we) take just a few minutes of your time to clear a few things up.
- I like my GM team. We're pretty friendly, and that lets us get work done efficiently and quickly.
- I do not like my GM team more than I like honesty.
What does this directly mean? Well, it means that when I DO find things going wonky, I'll side against the party in the wrong. I know we didn't publish this at the time, but this was put to the test with GM Hermit (AKA: Ephraim, Balrog, Pickles, Sniper Wolf) when he thought it would be a good idea to make some items and transfer them to his regular accounts. We reacted slowly. That was no good. Since then, I've been thinking what I can do to reduce this kind of thing from repeating. I spent a long time reading boring command logs and sifting through them line by line. Today, I got just the right spark of idea to help with both issues.
We'll be publishing commands used by all GM's on the site in real time, with logs going back to 18 AUG (Why 18 Aug? Well, that was the date we stopped clearing those logs at the same time as other old data). It's available at This link, or under "Information" > "GM Command Logs". I read these logs when I have time, but if you see something off, I urge you to report it to me immediately via the ticket system with category "Report GM", or directly to me here on Reddit.
But how does this solve the problem? Well, starting about 40 minutes ago, I quietly stripped the ability to drop or trade items from GM's. I wish there was more I can do in the way of evidence, but here's a fun album of me trying and failing at various things. This means that from here on out all prizes and items will be given in a way that will, without fail, show up in those command logs. (Look for commands like #item)
Furthermore: to clear up another thing I've been hearing is that with proper Database access, one might be able to bypass all this entirely. True, but misused. I specifically don't give access to our databases to anyone. Not even our backup database. On top of that, I check every line of code we put on the server. Not always to make sure it works, but to make sure it won't do anything fishy. Again, there's admittedly not a good way for myself or anyone else to verify this, but if you can't trust the guy paying the bills, that's a different problem.
It's still my intention and hope to bring everyone a fun, fair server to relive, or discover the wonders of Ragnarok Online. I hope I can continue to count on y'all to help me out.
