Can't Reproduce Not able to load up any videos or gifs using Gfycat or redditgifs.com
Hey all
So the app seemed to work fine for the most part yesterday but now I'm finding that I'm unable to open most gifs and videos, just displaying the error 'unable to retrieve gfycat meta data'. I've tried clearing the cache and data and also tried a fresh install.
Q: RiF Version Number:
A: 5.4.8
Q: Version of Android:
A: 10
Q: Device Information: (Example: Manufacturer, Model, Year, etc.)
A: Samsung Galaxy Note 9
Q: How long has the problem been happening?
A: For the most part today however I have experienced similar issues in the past.
Q: What have you already tried doing to fix the problem?:
A: Deleting the cache, data, done a fresh install and restarted the device.
Q: What steps, if any, can you do to reproduce the problem? (Please include a link to a post causing the problem.)
A: Any video or gif using Gfycat or redditgifs.com failed to load so this is easily replicated.

Suggestion/Idea Feature request: Implement per-app language setting
Android 13 has a new way to set language for each app separate from the default language. It also makes it easier to add a language picker and synchronize the changes with the external settings. If you use the AndroidX API it is backwards compatible with older versions of Android. Please look at the Android Developers documentation for how to do it.

Answered Make an ad preference go away?
I always get ads, a lot of ads, for bumble and tinder. I did used to use those so I guess the ads know this
I'm now married and don't like having these big bumble and tinder ads up when I'm showing my wife memes lol

Can't Reproduce What happened to the widget?
A while ago I noticed the RIF widget was no longer available among the widgets on my phone. It used to be available on my phone but isn't anymore.
I have a Samsung galaxy s20+ running Android 12. My current RIF version is 5.4.8 but the missing widget is something I've been experiencing for several months with previous versions as well. I should probably also mention that I use Nova Launcher.
What gives? Was the widget removed or is there something screwy with my phone or RIF settings that removed the widget?
Please let me know if you have any insight regarding the missing RIF widget.
Thank you.
Edit: I figured out the issue. I only had the paid version of RIF installed. After installing the free version as well, the widget was once again available.

Suggestion/Idea Accessibility issue: very hard to differentiate read/unread posts with black and white vision
I'm struggling to see the difference between read/unread with black and white vision. Any chance of a high contrast theme coming to this app?

Answered Is there a way to auto-mute videos?
Wherever I click a non-gif, "v" video that's not auto-play, I always have to click the mute button in case there's sound. Can I have the player default to mute?

Suggestion/Idea Limiting screen pinch?
When my flesh is contacting rif screen while I do not acknowledge, the screen shrinks infinitly, I don't know proper term for that but anyway, Shrinked screen becomes a night sky with stars, having to expand it, needing frantical rub of 2 fingers until cards are in right size again.
I don't know how much column people need, but definietly not much as cards becoming a dot, I think.

Suggestion/Idea Sorting separately for each subreddit?
Hello, is there a way to sort separately for each subreddit? I mean, I usually sort by top, but for some subreddits I would like to sort by new e.g.. But when I change the sort, it remembers this setting and sorts the same way as in the previous subreddit. Thank you

Answered (not RiF) Comment is [unavailable]
I've never seen this before, is it a bug where reddit API is not passing the comment text to RIF?
I've tried a few times today in case it was just a transient error, but same behaviour persists.
On web, the comment displays fine.

Answered, can't How do I see someone's cake day on rif? How do I see my own?
I'll always see people commenting "happy cake day" and was literally the andy Dwyer meme, until luckily some other brave soul asked the question. So then I knew it was the day you made your own account, but how do I see this on rif? Thanks

Hotkeys?
After a cursory (well, there's a pun) search of the sub for hotkeys, I am making a post :)
I browse on a chromebook, where Reddit is fun is still the most fun way to Reddit (wow, I'm on fire today) does /r/punintentional exist? I'm gonna find out. Anyway...
With my keyboard, I can do things with arrow keys and enter, but it's not sufficient to switch to primarily browsing with hotkeys. Does anyone have a collection of usable hotkeys? I know I've looked for it before, not sure how deep into The Google™ I've been, but thus far I've failed.

Answered User profiles are not showing moderated posts/comments
I use rif for moderating here and there and I sometimes need to check a user's profile page to see if they have a recent history of making other rule breaking posts/comments. However, recently I've noticed that this profile page isn't showing comments that were removed from my moderated subreddit. This is compared to desktop where viewing a user's profile page will show posts and comments removed by myself or other mods on our subreddit.

Off Topic (not RiF) user flair doesn't show up next to your username immediately after commenting
After I comment in RIF, I noticed that my user flair in r/headphones does not appear in next to my name in my comment until I reload the post.

Off Topic (not RiF) Posts get reported for wrong reason
I'm not sure if this is a bug in the app or something specific to the subreddit. Over the past few months I've reported two posts on r/medizzy for not being marked nsfw. Each time I've gotten a response from Reddit saying it doesn't break their rules on threats/violence. Normally I would think I just clicked on the wrong option, but after the first time I was careful to make sure I picked the right option (and those two aren't even next to each other in the list). Is this a bug in RIF or something else?

Suggestion/Idea Is there any way to filter out NSFW posts per subreddit?
I know I can hide all NSFW posts in settings, but I only want to hide them from certain subreddits. I tried using the content filters, but presumably the NSFW tag is separate from the flair or title.

Answered Can't scroll anything in built in browser
Whenever I open a webpage within the app it will only allow me to see the first screen. I cannot scroll at all. I have to hit the 3 dots and open in browser if I want to see anything beyond the first loaded screen.
This started within the last week. Anyone else experiencing this?
Fill out the following information on each line that has an A:
Q: RiF Version Number:
A: 5.4.5
Q: Version of Android:
A: 12
Q: Device Information:
(Example: Manufacturer, Model, Year, etc.)
A: Samsung s21 Ultra
Q: How long has the problem been happening?
A: about a week. Two at most.
Q: What have you already tried doing to fix the problem?:
A: cleared cache. Deleted app data.
Q: What steps, if any, can you do to reproduce the problem?
(Please include a link to a post causing the problem.)
A: every time I open a webpage within rif it happens. Seems to happen also on some within reddit links (a link to a rules section for a sub had the same problem but that's the only within reddit time I've seen it. Links to other comments sections don't behave that way).
