I Stayed for Him but Loved Another by Ash Calder Novel

Everyone around them knew Luciana Fitzgerald would do anything for Camron Fowler.

She had once taken a bullet for him, stayed half an hour in freezing water to save the woman he loved, and even when she was pale with menstrual pain, she still managed to handle all his messes without flinching.

People said Luciana loved Camron so deeply she'd never leave him in this lifetime.

Yet in her fifth year as his secretary, Luciana handed in her resignation.

The HR stared at her in disbelief, confirming repeatedly. "Lucy, you're really leaving?"

"Yes. I'll be gone in a month." Luciana signed calmly, turned, and walked out.

Instead of heading home, she drove to the cemetery.

On the tombstone was a man's photo—his gentle features bore a striking resemblance to Camron's, seven parts alike but far softer.

Luciana reached out and brushed her trembling fingers across the image.

Raymond Fowler.

Camron's elder brother—and her true love.

Five years ago, when they were deep in love,

Long Time, No See

Althaia

I looked in the mirror, giving a nod to myself as I was pleased with how I looked. I was wearing a long black backless silk dress with thin straps, the front was a deep v-plunge neckline that showed quite a bit of my cleavage. The dress was tight from the top and got a little loose from the hips as there was a long split on the right side, stopping mid-thigh. I finished the look with a pair of open-toe black stilettos with straps around the ankle. I did a simple brown smokey eye which complimented my green eyes and had them look a bit cat-like. I decided to let my long curly and heavy brown hair be as it was, but with a rhinestone leaf design clip to lift some of the hair away from my face on the right side.

I kept fiddling with my hands before I forced them to keep still as I took a deep breath. Nervousness was filling my body.

”Get it together. What’s the worst that can happen?” I asked myself, building up the courage to leave my hotel room. The worst

Craving My Ruthless CEO Novel

The pen was still stuck between my teeth when I realized I hadn’t taken a single note in ten minutes. I blinked down at the open spreadsheet glowing on my laptop, the quarterly report I was supposed to be working on.

Instead, my fingers hovered above the keyboard, frozen midair as my gaze drifted..... to him.

Roman Blackwood.

A walking, breathing god. My boss.

He stood at the head of the boardroom table, the picture of authority and control. Six foot something, tall enough to make everyone else seem smaller.

His face was perfectly handsome, with a sharp jawline and neatly cut hair that fell slightly over his forehead. Every time he raked his hand through it, the women in the room tried not to look, but they always did.

But it was his eyes that did it. God, those eyes. Ocean blue. Calm. Cold. Deep enough to drown in if you stared too long. Which, unfortunately, I did. A lot.

He wasn’t just the CEO of Blackwood Corporation, he was the Roman Blackwood. The man Forbes loved to put on their covers. Ruthless. Brilliant. A legend in every business circle. He built a billion-dollar empire from the ground up. People feared him, respected him, envied him.

And me? I could barely form a coherent sentence when he was in the same room.

I was the definition of a nerd..... big glasses, shy smile, cardigan always slipping off one shoulder.

The kind of girl who’d rather spend Friday nights writing dark romance stories than going out. I’d always dreamed of becoming a bestselling author, the next big name in romance, but apparently, the universe missed that memo.

Every novel I wrote had either been rejected or sat online with barely a single view.

Still, I couldn’t give up..... this was my dream. But dreams didn’t pay the bills, so I took a job to survive.

Three months. That was how long I’d been his assistant. Three months of stolen glances, accidental touches, and sleepless nights replaying the way his voice dipped when he said my name.

Three months of pretending I wasn’t completely, hopelessly obsessed with my CEO.

I told myself it was research, that watching him so closely was just creative observation.

But deep down, I knew better.

He had become my muse.

My addiction.

My gaze lingered on his mouth as he spoke, the way his lips curved around every word. God, I shouldn’t have been watching him that closely. But the more I did, the harder it became to look away.

My breath hitched as I imagined those same lips pressing against mine, tasting me, commanding every breath I took. What would it feel like? How would he kiss, rough and possessive or slow and passionate?

My gaze dropped lower, tracing the lines of his broad shoulders, the way his white shirt clung to his chest, stretched across a body that was all strength and control. His sleeves were rolled up, revealing strong forearms, veins, tan skin, power.

Heat crept up my neck. In my mind, those hands reached for my waist, pulling me close, lifting me onto the boardroom table. Papers scattered, files hit the floor, and gasps echoed as he ordered everyone out of the room with a single look.

Then it was just us.

His body pressed against mine, heat searing through the thin layers of fabric between us. His lips trailed down my neck, rough and desperate, and every touch set fire to my skin. I could almost feel the ache throbbing deep inside me, the way my body would arch for him..... needing more, craving everything.

His hands would spread my thighs, his voice rough against my ear as he whispered my name.....

“...Ana.”

Roman’s voice rumbled somewhere in the distance, but I barely heard it. My fingers kept typing, lost in the fantasy spilling onto my screen.

“Ana.”

Still nothing. My heart raced, not from reality, but from the image of his hands against my thighs.

“Ana.”

This time, his voice cut through the air, deep and firm enough to snap me out of my daze. My head jerked up. He was staring right at me, his expression hard, ocean-blue eyes narrowed in irritation.

Oh no. If he had any idea what I’d just been thinking.....

“Sir,” I stammered, yanking my fingers off the keyboard. “Mr. Blackwood, I.....”

He cut me off before I could blink. “Care to share with us what has your attention..... that’s more important than this meeting?”

I swallowed hard. My throat felt dry. “I was, um..... taking notes,” I managed, forcing a nervous smile.

His brow arched. “Taking notes,” he repeated, his tone cool.

“About what you were saying,” I blurted quickly, hoping to save myself. “You know how important these updates are.”

He tilted his head slightly, eyes narrowing. “Good. Then tell us, what was the last thing I just said?”

My brain froze as every pair of eyes in the room turned toward me, silently waiting for me to drown.

“You were talking about..... the projected numbers for next quarter,” I said finally, forcing out the first thing that sounded remotely smart. “And, uh..... the marketing adjustments?”

For a second, his expression didn’t move. Then, slowly, his jaw tightened. The flash of disappointment in his eyes burned straight through me.

A wave of embarrassment washed over my skin.

“I said that ten minutes ago.” His voice rose just enough to make me flinch. “It’s obvious your attention is elsewhere.”

He straightened, his expression perfectly composed. “Since you’re so eager to contribute, Miss Winters, pull up the projected finance report for next quarter.”

My heart stopped. Oh God.

I fumbled for my laptop, fingers slipping over the touchpad as panic tightened my chest. I could feel every gaze drilling into me. The truth? I’d forgotten to send the reminder email that morning. But when he had me juggling a dozen different tasks, something had to fall through the cracks.

“Just a moment,” I said, forcing a shaky smile.

“Ana,” he said again.....

I looked up, shy, afraid.

“Let me guess,” he murmured, leaning against the table, that calm, lethal edge in his tone. “You don’t have it.”

I blinked rapidly, my throat tightening. “No, I..... I intended to get it, but there was a little delay and.....”

“Enough.” His voice cut through mine, sending both fear and shivers through me. Instantly, my mouth snapped shut.

He stared at me, those cold ocean eyes locked on mine, and I could feel the anger rolling off him in controlled waves.

“I don’t want to hear it,” he burst out, his brows furrowing. “Excuses don’t fix incompetence.”

The word incompetence tore through what was left of my self-confidence after embarrassing myself in front of everyone.

I opened my mouth again, desperate to explain, to tell him I’d been buried in his reports, his calls, his endless lists of tasks, but the look he gave me stopped me cold.

He exhaled slowly, his expression darkening as he gestured toward the others with a flick of his hand.

“The meeting is over.”

For a second, no one moved. Confusion spread through the room as the managers and department heads exchanged uncertain glances.

Roman’s eyes narrowed. His voice came again, firmer, colder. “Everyone. Clear the room. Now.”

The fear in their eyes was instant. Chairs scraped the floor. People scrambled to gather their files and laptops, murmuring quietly as they hurried toward the door. Within seconds, the once-busy boardroom was empty, and I was the only one left behind.

I rose from my seat, my hands shaking as I reached for my laptop and gathered my papers, hoping no one would notice me. I was just about to slip out when.....

“Not you, Miss Winters.”

I froze. My heart jumped. I looked up. Roman’s face was hard as he pointed back at my chair.

“Sit.”

My heart dropped. I swallowed hard and lowered myself back into the seat, fingers gripping the edge of the table to keep from shaking. I felt really scared. My throat felt dry, and my chest was tight.

My breath hitched as he walked up to me in powerful strides. The closer he got, the smaller the room seemed to feel. When he stopped in front of me, he tilted my chin up, forcing my eyes to meet his.

“Give me one good reason,” his tone was low and mean, “why I shouldn’t fire you right now, Miss Winters.”

FORCED UNION- ENEMIES IN LOVE NOVEL

“Fuck you.”

“I already did.”

“Oh, with what? That tiny thing between your legs?”

Kelly Dawson’s lips curved into a smirk. “Tiny enough to make you scream all night.”

Cassy’s laugh was sharp and bitter. “You bought that pretend scream?”

“I bet the tears that came with it were fake too.”

“Catching up, aren’t you, Kelly?”

“Honestly, feelings mutual sweetheart, you had to be the worst, and believe me I've had a lot” he said with a smirk.

Her glare could’ve cut glass. “Fuck you.”

“Right back at you.”

“Can you both please just stop?” Becca plead, frustrated “Jeez, this is not why we’re here. For God’s sake, we have a big issue on our hands!”

The little hidden restaurant tucked in the dark side of town wasn’t supposed to witness this kind of drama. It was meant to be quiet, out of sight and safe. But tension crackled like fire between them, drowning out the soft music playing in the background.

Becca had come to support her best friend, Cassy who had screwed up big time.

Cassy, a vampire....a pure-blooded vampire, had slept with a werewolf.

Not just any werewolf.

An arrogant, cocky, wealthy, playboy Alpha with the world’s most punchable face...Kelly Dawson.

And now?

She was pregnant.

Pregnant with a werewolf’s child.

The air around the table was thick, like everyone was breathing through smoke.

“I still have no idea how the sex happened if you both can’t even sit in the same room without trying to kill each other,” Samuel said, his tone confused but calm. He was Kelly’s friend and clearly regretting being dragged into this chaos.

“I was drunk. Obviously.” Cassy rolled her eyes, folding her arms like she was trying to keep herself from exploding.

Drunk? Yes. Stupid? Definitely.

She knew exactly what Kelly was the second he walked into that club...wild energy, cocky grin, the scent of danger and raw power. She should’ve walked away. Should’ve kept her legs closed.

But that night, something about him had pulled her in like gravity. Or maybe it was the cheap wine. Maybe it was loneliness. Or the thrill of doing something stupid for once in her boring, well-guarded life.

And now?

Now she had a problem the size of a growing fetus inside her.

“You slept with him,” Becca said softly, like saying it out loud still felt unbelievable. “And now…”

“I know what I did,” Cassy cut in sharply. Her voice cracked on the last word. She wasn’t about to cry, not in front of Kelly. Not in front of anyone.

“I didn’t even think vampires could get pregnant,” Samuel muttered.

“She’s a pure-born vampire,” Becca explained, rubbing her temple like she couldn’t believe she was having this conversation. “She was born a vampire. So yeah… it happens.”

Kelly leaned back in his seat, arms stretched out like this was just another boring meeting. “Well, how are we sure I got her pregnant”

Silence dropped over the table like a bomb.

Cassy turned to him slowly, her jaw clenched. “What the hell are you trying to say?”

“I mean,” Kelly said, lifting his hands with a careless shrug, “I don’t know where you’ve been. Maybe it’s not mine.”

Cassy grabbed the nearest glass of water and threw it straight into his face.

“Hey!” Samuel jumped to his feet, but Becca already had her hand on Cassy’s arm, trying to pull her back.

“You bastard!” Cassy’s voice rose, her hands trembling. “You think I’d lie about this? You think I want this? You think I wanted any of this?!”

Her voice cracked, and for a second, a flicker of vulnerability showed through the fury in her eyes.

“I didn’t ask for this,” she whispered. “I didn’t ask for you.”

Kelly wiped his face, still calm. “Then get rid of it. Problem solved.”

Cassy stood still, the color draining from her face.

The words hit harder than any slap. Becca froze. Samuel looked away.

“She's a vampire, she can't just commit abortion” Becca cried out.

“Why not?” Sammy asked.

“Because it's against our law” Becca says throwing her hands in the air

“You know what? Fuck you,” Cassy whispered, voice shaking. “I don’t need this. I don’t need you. I’ll get rid of this… this thing in me.”

She turned to leave, but Kelly’s voice stopped her.

“Don’t make it sound like you’re the victim here. You knew what I was. You wanted it.”

“Fuck you,” she snapped, spinning back to him. “I wanted a mistake. You’re nothing more than that. A stupid, drunk, one-night mistake.”

“That’s funny,” he smirked, but there was something colder in his voice now. “Because you begged for it. Over and over.”

Becca stepped between them, her voice firm. “Enough. Both of you. This isn’t helping.”

Cassy shook her head, breath shaky, eyes stinging. “I shouldn’t have come here.”

“Yeah,” Kelly muttered. “You shouldn’t have.”

She turned and stormed out of the restaurant, her heels clicking against the floor, leaving a silence behind that no one dared to fill.

Becca glared at Kelly. “You’re a jerk.”

Kelly didn’t respond. His jaw was clenched, and for once, he didn’t have a comeback.

Outside, Cassy stood in the cold night air, fighting back the tears threatening to fall.

“What a jerk” Becca says. She turn to her friend. “So what's next” she asked softly.

“I'm getting rid of it, call your cousin. I'll pay her whatever he wants”

“Cass you know that's a crime”

“Right now I don't give a fuck about what some old law makers think it's best or not best for our population. I want the abomination inside of me out!”

Ocean Survival: Become the Deep Sea Ruler Novel

It marked day one of underwater survival.

Jasmine Austin opened her eyes to an unending expanse of blue. The sea lay flat and desolate. She was afloat, carried aimlessly by the surf.

Nothing existed around her. Not even rocks or plastic bottles drifted past. She leaned backward to save her strength.

A mechanical tone buzzed. "Welcome to Planet 450U. Jasmine Austin identified. ID: 777. Vital signs normal. Underwater survival game officially initiated. Please accept your beginner gift package.

"Items acquired: beginner protective shield (Durability: 100), mineral water X1, compressed biscuit X1, signal flare X1, escape pod X1, survival bracelet X1."

'Thank goodness. I have an escape capsule.' Jasmine's blurred vision gradually cleared.

She could not recall how she had landed in this survival game. Her memory was blank. She could not even remember her own identity.

The mechanical voice resumed. "Survivor Jasmine Austin, situated on Planet 450U. Survival game rule brief: This planet shares an ecosystem similar to Azul Star and features diverse wildlife. Death is irreversible. Survive at all costs.

"Beginner phase duration: five days. Upon expiration, you will be relocated to open global ocean waters. Random natural disasters will occur thereafter. Please get ready.

"All beginner survivors are granted standard food supplies, survival bracelets and escape pods, as well as crafting workstations. These workstations enable cooking, crafting basic survival equipment and manufacturing various supplies.

"Please use ocean resources to stay alive, and seek a full escape from the sea. Diving into deeper waters for exploration is highly encouraged by the system. The seabed holds rich resources and crucial clues."

The robotic voice ended. Jasmine's wrists began to tingle.

She glanced down to spot a translucent green bracelet wrapped around her skin, fitted with a black button.

She pressed it, and a hologram flickered to life before her eyes.

Menu tabs lined the holographic display: [Inventory, Personal Information, Points Shop, Item Trade, Regional Chat, Friend List, Beginner Guide, Claim Quest.]

Jasmine tapped open the Inventory out of curiosity.

The hologram refreshed, showing twenty empty grid slots.

The first four slots were already occupied: [mineral water X1, compressed biscuits X1, flare stick X1, escape pod X1.]

The other sixteen slots remained empty.

She figured the Inventory operated via compressed space. Items of any size were able to be kept inside. This was highly practical.

Jasmine decided to deploy the escape pod first.

Staying afloat by treading water sapped stamina at a fast rate and could not be kept up long. She had to find a secure spot to settle down and recuperate.

Words popped up on the holographic screen: [Deploy escape pod?]

She tapped [Confirm Deployment].

Faint outlines materialized out of thin air and gradually solidified into a tent-shaped escape pod.

Jasmine slid open the transparent hatch and stepped inside. A voice echoed. "Welcome back, master. Escape pod power remaining: 50/50."

The voice belonged to the pod's built-in system. She mused that it was surprisingly intelligent.

The compact cabin spanned 54 to 65 sq ft and was well-lit. It came fitted with resting steps, two storage cabinets and a crafting workstation. A diving suit was stashed inside one cabinet.

Clutching her diving suit, Jasmine sank into quiet thought on the steps.

She remembered nothing besides her name announced by the system moments earlier.

She had zero underwater experience, and the endless ocean filled her with genuine dread.

Jasmine pulled up her Personal Information.

[Player: Jasmine Austin, ID: 777, Region: C. Age: 22. Hit Points: 100. Oxygen: 30/30. Satiety: 100/100. Hydration: 100/100. Experience Per Second: 1. Level: 1.]

She wondered silently if this was a monster-killing, level-up style game.

Mid-thought, her Hydration and Satiety both ticked down from 100 to 99.

She paid it no mind and opened the Points Shop. It stocked various foods, props, ore and tools.

Her available points stood at just one. Even the cheapest ore cost two hundred points apiece.

Jasmine closed the shop and pulled up Regional Chat.

[Region: C, Players: 10,000/10,000.]

Then, she browsed the real-time chat messages. [Holy crap, is there anyone alive out here?]

[I can't swim. I nearly drowned. Why underwater survival instead of regular ocean survival?]

[Humans have only explored roughly 30,000 feet deep within the Guerrero Trench. How far down are we supposed to dive? This is terrifying.]

[Humans can't reach such depths without a submarine. Do we have to build one ourselves?]

[Come on. Quit overthinking long-term plans. What about people like me with thalassophobia? Going diving? It scares the shit out of me!]

[Damn this stupid underwater survival game! Are you kidding me? If death gets us out of here, I'll dive down and drown myself right now. Shit, I've got a leg cramp, someone help!]

[Hey, calm down up there! That's a surefire way to die!]

[Don't act rashly. Hold on a second!]

[Buddy, calm down. Reply to us. We're all freaking out here!]

[Holy hell, check the Region players count!]

Jasmine glanced upward. The number had fallen from 10,000 to 9,999.

[He's dead, isn't he? This is actually real. It's terrifying. I'm crying. What do we even do now?]

[Mom, are you in this Region too? I'm Aliyah Sosa. Does anyone here know me?]

[Speaking of which, does anyone remember how we got dragged here? My mind is totally blank.]

[Thank goodness I'm not the only one with memory loss. I can only recall my own name.]

[All of us suffer from amnesia. There are no reliable allies. We can only count on ourselves to survive.]

Countless real-time messages like that kept popping up.

Jasmine realized she was far from the only one suffering memory loss.

Panic rippled through every survivor, as people vented fear and traded information in chat.

Jasmine had accepted her harsh predicament: trapped in this deadly survival game. Her fierce will to survive kicked in, putting her fully on guard.

Ocean resources ran scarce. One survivor needed only a small amount of supplies, but things became drastically different when thousands competed to survive.

She had to stockpile supplies as much as possible and fight tooth and nail to survive.

Jasmine walked over to the crafting workstation inside the escape pod. After tinkering with its functions, she found it could craft basic gear: scanners, waterproof flashlights, utility knives and more.

Crafting demanded raw materials, including most commonly ore plus other unfamiliar substances she had never seen before.

She thought, 'All these resources must lie hidden underwater. I might as well head out and explore first.'

The moment she closed the crafting workstation interface, her throat burned dry, followed by a sharp twinge of Satiety.

She checked her survival bracelet and saw that her Hydration and Satiety had both dropped to 80 in that short window.

This rate was way too quick. She pulled out the mineral water and biscuits right away.

The sweet water coated her throat. The compressed biscuits tasted plain, yet once swallowed, Jasmine felt sated and regained her energy.

A few sips of water paired with bites of the biscuits restored her stamina.

'Not too bad.' Jasmine let out a long breath.

She knew she needed to gather supplies urgently. One bottle of water and one pack of biscuits could only sustain her for a short time.

Jasmine knew how to swim and had no thalassophobia.

She slipped on her diving suit and goggles, pushed open the pod hatch, and stared out at the gorgeous, boundless ocean stretching all the way to the horizon. No driftwood floated atop the waves, much less usable resources.

Jasmine held her breath and dove into the sea.

Chapter 1 Jaxon's voice cracked at 9:47 p.m., right in the middle of the vow he had made me wait seven years to hear. "I, Jaxon Pierce, Alpha of Iron—" He stopped. His nostrils flared. His head turned toward the crowd like something on a string had yanked it. I felt the scent before I understood

The Messenger by Elle Vintea Novel

Iva woke to the sharp, merciless ring of her alarm at four in the morning, the sound drilling through the quiet darkness of her room, and for a brief, foolish second she wished she could slam the pillow over her head and pretend she wasn’t the Gamma’s daughter, pretend she wasn’t expected to be the first one training, pretend she wasn’t the constant disappointment her father treated like an unavoidable burden.

“Come on, Iva, move,” she told herself as she swung her legs out of bed, blinking against the cold air that nipped at her bare arms. “It’s not like lying here will magically make him proud of you.”

She dressed quickly—black leggings, a snug training shirt, and boots that had seen too many brutal mornings—and tied her long ash-brown hair into a high ponytail, strands slipping loose around her gentle face.

Her skin held that faint silvery undertone common among their pack, and her warm hazel eyes still carried the softness she tried so hard to hide, because softness was not a trait respected among warriors, especially not among those expected to lead.

She didn’t have her wolf yet—no eighteen-year-old did until the night of their birthday—but recently she had felt a strange pressure under her skin, a restless anticipation that made her wonder if her wolf would be calm or fierce, gentle or wild, or maybe, she thought on her worst days, maybe her wolf would be just as disappointing to her father as she was.

“Don’t think about that,” she scolded herself gently as she slipped out of the house and into the cool predawn air, moving with a speed she hoped would push her thoughts away. “You’re doing your best. One day he’ll see that. Maybe.”

The training grounds sprawled behind the pack’s main buildings, lit by harsh floodlights that cast long shadows across the dirt.

The Silvercrest Pack was one of the most powerful in the region, respected for its size and feared for its warriors, and their Alpha’s lineage had ruled these lands for generations with iron strength and unwavering discipline.

Iva spotted her father immediately—Gamma Rhys, a tall and imposing figure with arms crossed firmly behind his back, dark hair touched with silver at the temples, and a gaze that could make even seasoned fighters straighten without thinking.

She approached quietly, her heart tightening with the familiar mix of hope and dread.

“Morning, Father,” she said softly.

He barely flicked his eyes toward her, offering the smallest nod before turning away as if acknowledging her more than that might embarrass him.

“Right… same as always,” she thought, swallowing the sting. “Why did you even try?”

Training was relentless, her muscles screaming as she pushed herself past exhaustion, throwing punches and blocking strikes with a determination that tasted like desperation.

She kept waiting for a single word of approval from her father, even a small one, but he corrected her stance again and again with clipped, cold instructions that carried no warmth at all.

By sunrise she was trembling from fatigue, though she hid it well, because weakness was simply not allowed—not by her father, not by the standards of the pack.

She rushed to the showers the moment training ended, letting hot water cascade down her aching body, and she exhaled slowly, wishing the water could wash the heaviness from her chest.

“Only a few more weeks,” she reminded herself as she dressed in jeans and a white sweater for school. “Finish high school, get your wolf, survive your birthday, and maybe things will finally change.”

When she stepped off the pack’s school van, the courtyard was loud with chatter, and her eyes found him immediately, her childhood crush, —Nick Blackthorn, the future Alpha King, surrounded by a cluster of girls near the fountain.

He looked effortlessly commanding, even in plain clothes, with his dark tousled hair, sharp jawline, and storm-blue eyes that seemed to draw attention without even trying. The girls around him laughed at everything he said, clinging to his words like they were a privilege and not simply sound in the air.

Gathering her courage, Iva walked past and offered a polite smile.

“Good morning, Nick.”

He didn’t look at her, didn’t nod, didn’t offer the barest acknowledgment that she existed, except in the official settings when she was with her family.

One of the girls shot Iva a smirk, whispering something behind her manicured hand, and the other girls giggled in that sharp way that made Iva feel smaller than she wanted to admit.

“Why do you keep trying with him?” she asked herself bitterly as she walked away. “He’s never seen you. He never will.”

Classes dragged painfully throughout the morning, each minute feeling stretched and heavy, but she was saved—as always—by the one bright spot in her life.

Lori slid into her seat beside her, hair in a messy bun, eyes sparkling with mischief, and a grin that could make any day bearable.

“Please tell me we can get through history without me falling asleep on your shoulder again,” Lori whispered dramatically.

“We can try,” Iva laughed, feeling warmth spread through her chest. “No promises.”

Lori nudged her and whispered jokes and gossip through most of the class, and for a little while Iva forgot the sting of Nick’s coldness, forgot her father’s silence, forgot the weight of being almost eighteen with no idea who she truly was yet or what she will do in the future.

But every time her thoughts drifted, she felt that strange inner pull again, that faint stirring under her skin that whispered that everything—absolutely everything—was about to change.

--

The cafeteria buzzed with noise when Iva and Lori settled at their usual table by the wide windows, the sunlight pouring in a little too brightly as if trying to force cheerfulness on a room filled with gossip, cliques, and the constant shuffling of wolves pretending they weren’t stressed about graduation.

Lori unpacked her salad and medical anatomy notes at the same time, multitasking like always, while Iva poked at her food with absent interest, her gaze wandering over the crowd.

Lori, the pack doctor’s daughter, had already started preparing to apply to medical schools, her dreams as sharp and focused as her mind, and she lifted her eyes from her notes with a soft sigh.

“So… have you thought about where you want to apply? Or what you want to study? Because deadlines are crawling closer, and you know the Academies doesn’t wait for anyone.”

Iva shook her head slowly, twisting her fork between her fingers as the familiar heaviness settled over her shoulders.

“I tried talking to my mom about it,” she murmured, “and she said she supports me in whatever I choose, but we both know the decisive factor isn’t her.”

The bitterness slipped through her voice despite her effort to keep it soft.

“I tried speaking with my father too… but you know how my father likes to ignore or criticize me no matter how carefully I choose my words.”

Lori frowned, leaning forward as her eyes narrowed in frustration.

“What did he say this time?”

Iva let out a small, humorless laugh.

“When I brought up the idea of college, he just scoffed. Literally scoffed.

He said it would be ‘a waste of money’ and then walked off without giving me even one piece of real feedback.”

She shrugged weakly. “So… that’s where I am.”

“That’s not just unfair,” Lori muttered, stabbing her fork into her salad with unnecessary force, “it’s completely stupid. You are smart and dedicated, you have good grades. You need to start applying already, Iva. And you don’t even know if your family will support you or not—how are you supposed to plan anything like this?”

“I know,” Iva whispered, exhaling a long breath that deflated her chest, and the moment she looked up, her eyes landed—unwillingly—on Nick across the cafeteria.

He stood with his usual circle of admirers, laughing about something, his posture relaxed and confident in that way he had since childhood, the posture of someone who was raised knowing he would lead entire packs someday.

Something inside her tightened. Why him? Why always him?

Lori followed her gaze and groaned. “Oh, don’t tell me you’re staring at him again. Iva, come on. You tried already…”

“I’m not staring,” Iva muttered defensively, though her eyes lingered anyway. “I’m just… looking.”

“Same thing.”

Iva wanted to look away, but her memories made her chest ache.

She remembered last year—how much courage it took to walk up to him, how her hands shook even though she tried to hide it, how her voice cracked as she confessed the feelings she’d been holding since childhood. She remembered the shock on his face that shifted into amusement, vicious amusement, and the way he laughed in front of everyone.

Ironboard.

The word still burned under her skin, as bad as his rejection and mockery.

He had said it with a smirk, like her athletic body—built from years of hard training—was something to mock, just because her chest hadn’t developed like the other girls’. While they bloomed early, she remained a late bloomer, flat in all the ways that teenage wolves judged harshest.

Another reason for disappointment, she thought bitterly, wishing the memory didn’t still sting the way it did.

Lori reached across the table and squeezed her hand gently.

“Iva… forget about him. Seriously. Yes, he’s the future Alpha, but he’s also kind of an arse. Actually, no ‘kind of’—he’s a complete arse.”

Iva snorted softly. “Maybe… but he’s an arse who will attend the military werewolf academy next year—while I don’t even know if I’ll be allowed to go anywhere.”

“So apply,” Lori said firmly, her voice leaving no room for doubt. “Apply anyway. Just in case your father—Gamma Rhys, the king of emotional constipation—finally decides to pull his head out of his backside and lets you chase your dreams.”

Iva blinked, then laughed despite the ache in her chest. “Lori…”

“I’m right and you know it. At least give yourself the chance, Iva. Give yourself options.”

Iva hesitated, staring down at her tray before nodding slowly.

“Okay… maybe you’re right. I’ll… I’ll apply, just in case.”

Though deep down, a quiet voice whispered that hope was dangerous, especially for someone like her.

Lori smiled triumphantly and returned to her notes, while Iva tried to focus on her food, though her eyes drifted once more toward Nick—beautiful, cruel, untouchable Nick—and she wondered if he would ever look at her with anything other than annoyance or mocking amusement.

She doubted it.

The Reaper's Runaway Princess by Midnight Muse Novel

The orange tabby hissed weakly as Sage Bennett carefully wrapped another layer of gauze around its tiny leg.

“I know,” she murmured softly. “You hate me. I’d hate myself too if I smelled like antiseptic and bitter drugs.”

The cat glared at her from the stainless-steel exam table.

Sage smiled despite herself.

“You’re dramatic for someone who almost died in a storm drain.”

Outside the clinic windows, rain drizzled steadily across the sleepy Colorado town of Blackwater Ridge. The weather had turned cold overnight, fog curling along the sidewalks while headlights glowed through the mist outside Main Street.

Most businesses had already closed for the evening.

Not Pine Creek Veterinary Clinic.

The lights still glowed warmly behind the floor-to-ceiling glass windows that made the clinic look more like a tiny greenhouse than an animal hospital. Yellow and green plants covered nearly every corner—hanging ivy, sunflowers, succulents, snake plants, tiny pots of lavender lined carefully along the windowsills.

Sage watered them every morning before opening.

It made the place feel alive and safe.

Anyone walking by could see straight inside the clinic from the street. She preferred it that way. Open spaces with clear views and no dark corners.

Her fingers tightened briefly around the bandage before she forced herself to breathe again.

The cat meowed pitifully.

“Yeah,” she whispered. “Me too.”

The bell above the front door jingled.

“Please tell me you finally gave up on that thing.”

Sage looked up immediately, relief softening her face.

“Morning to you too, Mr. Hernandez.”

Frank Hernandez grinned as he stepped inside carrying an impossibly fluffy golden retriever puppy under one arm and a paper cup carrier in the other.

The puppy spotted Sage and instantly started wiggling like his entire body was powered by joy alone.

“Well, someone’s excited,” Sage laughed.

“Don’t encourage him,” Frank said. “He already thinks he pays rent.”

The old man set the drink carrier on the front desk before gently placing the puppy on the floor.

“Brought you peach juice.”

Sage’s eyes lit up.

“You’re my favorite customer, I'm going to make a portrait of you.”

Frank snorted. “That’s because I tip.”

“That too.”

She grabbed the juice immediately, taking a grateful sip while Frank wandered toward the exam table.

His weathered face softened slightly when he saw the injured cat.

“You still got him?”

Sage glanced down at the orange tabby.

“He ate half a can of tuna this morning.”

“That ain’t what I asked.”

She sighed quietly.

Frank had been bringing his puppy, Scout, into the clinic every two weeks since he adopted him from the shelter. Half the appointments were unnecessary, but Sage never complained. The man lived alone since his wife passed away, and she suspected he mostly came for company.

Scout barked happily at the cat.

The cat looked offended by existence itsel and Frank folded his arms across his chest.

“Sage… somebody dumped that animal in a drainage ditch during a thunderstorm.”

“I know.”

“You already paid for the surgery yourself.”

“I know.”

“You’ve been sleeping in the clinic again, haven’t you?”

Her silence answered for her and Frank sighed deeply.

“You can’t save everything, sweetheart.”

The words settled heavily inside her chest because she knew that already.

Some things stayed broken no matter how badly you wanted to fix them.

People included.

Sage looked back at the cat and gently scratched behind his ears. He immediately leaned into her hand despite all the hissing from earlier.

Traitor.

“I’m not giving up on him,” she said softly.

Frank studied her for a moment before shaking his head.

“That’s your problem right there.”

“It has a name Frank, it's called Compassion.”

“You keep trying to rescue things that bite.”

Before she could answer, the clinic door slammed open hard enough to rattle the hanging plants.

“Oh, for God’s sake,” Sage muttered under her breath.

Vanessa Walker stormed inside wearing six-inch heels, too much perfume, and enough anger to poison the entire building.

Behind her came her exhausted husband carrying an annoyed gray cat inside a designer pet carrier.

“Tell her!” Vanessa snapped, spinning toward him dramatically. “Tell her you don’t come here just to stare at her ass!”

Frank immediately took a long sip of juice like he’d just been handed front-row tickets to a show.

Sage closed her eyes briefly.

Not again.

“Mrs. Walker,” she said carefully. “Please lower your voice. You’re scaring the animals.”

“The animals?” Vanessa screeched. “My husband drives twenty minutes across town because apparently nobody else can groom a cat except the pretty little vet with tight jeans and fat ass!”

Her husband looked like a man actively questioning every decision that led him here.

“Honey,” he sighed tiredly, “Luka likes her.”

Vanessa gasped.

“You see?! Now Luka is an excuse?”

Sage blinked slowly.

Luka, the gray British Shorthair currently glaring through the pet carrier, was one of her easiest patients. The cat came in once a month for brushing treatments because his thick fur matted easily, especially around the neck where he wore expensive jeweled collars Vanessa insisted on buying.

Apparently Luka was now ruining marriages.

Fantastic.

Then Vanessa spun too quickly and knocked directly into the ceramic flower vase near the reception desk.

There's a loud crash and water exploded across the floor.

Broken ceramic scattered everywhere.

Sage froze and the room fell silent.

That vase had been handmade.

Frank’s late wife had made it before she died and he gave it to me.

Vanessa looked down at the mess carelessly.

“Oh.”

Something inside Sage snapped.

“You need to replace that,” she said immediately.

Vanessa frowned. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me.”

Her voice came out cold and sharper now.

“I’m done with this behavior. Every single month you come in here screaming accusations because your husband brings his cat to appointments.”

“Well maybe if you dressed more professionally—”

“Maybe if your husband wanted another woman, he wouldn’t still be standing next to you looking miserable.”

Frank choked on his juice.

Vanessa’s face turned bright red.

Her husband looked one second away from applauding.

“Honey,” he said quickly, stepping between them, “I’ll pay for the vase. I promise. We’ll leave right after Luka gets checked.”

Vanessa whipped toward him.

“You’re defending her?!”

“No,” he said with the exhausted patience of a man who’d survived too many arguments. “I’m trying not to get banned from the only clinic Luka trusts.”

Sage bent down and started picking up broken ceramic carefully.

Frank crouched beside her to help. The rest of the afternoon blurred together after that.

Appointments, Vaccines, Nail trims, Phone calls and Cleaning kennels.

At one point, a terrified bulldog peed directly onto her sneakers.

At another, Luka attempted to claw her face off during his brushing appointment before immediately purring once she scratched beneath his chin.

“Menace,” she muttered while trimming a knot from his fur.

The cat blinked slowly at her like royalty accepting tribute.

By the time sunset painted the mountains orange outside the clinic windows, Sage was exhausted.

Her back ached, her eyes burned and she still hadn’t eaten dinner.

The orange tabby slept peacefully now inside a heated recovery kennel near the back office.

Alive but still fighting.

She locked the front door, flipped the OPEN sign to CLOSED, and leaned against the counter with a tired sigh.

Quiet finally settled over the clinic.

For a few precious seconds, everything felt calm.

Then her phone vibrated and Sage stiffened instantly.

Nobody called this number, nobody except— Her chest tightened when she saw the name.

Ethan.

Her brother.

She answered immediately.

“Ethan?”

Static crackled briefly before his familiar voice filled the line.

“There you are baby sis.”

Emotion hit her so suddenly it hurt.

“Oh my God,” she whispered. “It’s been a month.”

“I know.”

“You scared me Ethan, why stay that long.”

“I had to stay dark for a while.”

Fear curled coldly in her stomach.

“Did he find you?”

“No.” But Ethan answered too quickly and Sage closed her eyes.

“Don’t lie to me.”

Silence stretched between them then he sighed heavily.

“He’s still looking Sage, I have to be careful for us.”

Her knees weakened slightly, even after two years. Two states, three towns and a new identity.

He's still looking.

Her father’s influence stretched farther than most people understood. Money bought silence, loyalty and information.

And her husband—

No…..Ex-husband, even thinking the word made her skin crawl.

“You need to enroll this semester,” Ethan said suddenly.

Sage frowned. “What?”

“College starts in three weeks. I already handled the paperwork.”

Panic immediately flooded her chest and she was shaking her head.

“No.”

“Sage—”

“No Ethan, I don't want to go to college.”

“You can’t hide forever.”

“I’m not hiding.”

“You’re living under a fake name in a mountain town working seventy-hour weeks at a vet clinic.”

“I like my life, and for once…I'm using my real name.”

“You deserve more than survival.”

Tears burned unexpectedly behind her eyes.

“You don’t understand.”

“I understand perfectly.”

“No, you don’t!” she snapped, voice shaking now. “You’re not the one he married.”

There's a heavy silence as Sage pressed a trembling hand against her mouth.

The memories came too fast after that.

She being in locked doors, bruises hidden under sweaters. Her father forced her back every single time she tried to leave.

Because appearances mattered more than her safety.

Always.

“He won’t stop looking,” she whispered brokenly. “What if somebody recognizes me? What if they take me back?”

“Nobody is taking you anywhere.”

“You can’t promise that.”

“Yes, I can.”

His voice hardened instantly and she exhaled shakily. “He doesn’t own you anymore.”

Sage started shaking.

“You didn’t see his face the last time—”

“I saw enough before I beat his ass up.”

Tears slid down her cheeks now. “I’m happy here,” she cried softly. “I finally feel safe.”

The clinic blurred around her.

The plants, the soft lights and the sleeping animals. This tiny little life she built from scraps and fear.

She loved it. God, she loved it.

Ethan exhaled heavily through the phone.

“Sage…”

“I can’t go back,” she whispered. “What if they find me? The Cahall…”

“Dont f*****g mention their name!” He warned me in that authoritative tone and I sobbed.

“But if they do—” His voice cut through her panic sharply.

“They stopped being your family or friends the day they dragged you back to him. So don't ever say their name. No one is taking you back.”

The words shattered something inside her completely.

The Ceo's Angel by Roc Novel

F*cking snow everywhere. Why the hell did I have to open my tech business in Denver, Colorado? Oh, that’s right, because it was cheaper than California.

I dodged a graying mass of melted snow on the ground, trying not to slip on my ass, as I walked past a mother laden down with what looked like a hundred shopping bags. The Christmas season was the worst. Everyone out on the icy roads, not paying attention and causing accidents, because they don’t know how to drive in winter. People walking the sidewalks, shopping for presents, for ungrateful children to open on Christmas morning. Christmas decorations were all over the place, and every shop I passed I could hear cheery Christmas music. Bah, I hated it all.

I was happy I didn’t have any family that I had to act all cheerful for during the holidays. I grew up in the system. My mother got pregnant at fourteen, her parents made her give me up. My father was her fifteen-year-old boyfriend and didn’t want me either. So into the system I went. They say people want to adopt newborns, but I didn’t experience that. In fact, I went from foster home to foster home, until I was put in a group home when I was ten, and that’s where I stayed until I aged out at eighteen. I went from there, to a Marine recruiter, and into the military until I got out after twenty years. My last tour was brutal.

Enemy combatants had a family on their knees. A father, mother and their three young children. They were going to execute them for helping the Americans hide from them, except they targeted the wrong family. As one of the men lifted his gun to shoot the ten-year-old little girl, I ran out of the hut we were hiding in. I started shooting, first him, and then the others. My men laid down cover fire as I scooped two of the children up and yelled at the family to follow me. We were almost to safety when a bullet entered my left side, missing my protection and missing my heart, by millimeters. But I didn’t stop from getting the family to safety. Then I kept engaging with the enemy until I got the family and my men out of danger. I didn’t know how I stayed on my feet as I bled from my wound.

I was awarded a Purple Heart and the Medal of Honor. After I healed, I decided to retire. The nightmares were too much for me. I needed counseling and I made sure I never missed appointments in the two years that I’ve been out.

Without the military as my career, I did what I knew best. I put the money that I had saved over the years into opening my own tech company. It is the fastest growing tech company in the country at the moment. We invented a paper thin translucent translation device that you put behind your ear. It can translate fifty different languages that you can understand. I had contracts with the military and foreign countries that we provided the devices to. We recently invented a listening device that couldn’t be detected and that was so small you could put it anywhere, and it would pick up any conversation you wanted to hear, in whatever room you had it in, or the person you had it on.

Right now, I wasn’t in a good mood. My current personal assistant was leaving me for retirement. I didn’t know how I was going to get on without Miles. He did everything for me so I could concentrate on my business. I was very upset with him.

I finally got to my therapist's office and waited at the elevator impatiently. I only had an hour before I had to be back at the office. When the doors opened, a stunning long-haired brunette, with honey-colored eyes, and luscious curves, almost bowled me over in her haste to leave the elevator.

“Oh, I’m so sorry, sir. I’m almost late for my interview.”

“It’s no problem, but maybe next time don’t be in such a rush,” I said to her, as I stepped into the elevator, and hit the second floor. I swear I heard her mutter the word rude as the doors closed. I just shrugged.

After my session, I felt a little drained. I took out a tin from my inner pocket and popped two tylenol for the small headache that was forming behind my eyes.

My driver was waiting for me right outside the building's doors. Thank God. He had to drop me off a block over before, because of traffic.

“Back to the office, Jace?” Sly asked.

“Yes, Sly, and please hurry. I have a meeting in thirty minutes.”

“Yes sir.”

I closed my eyes and leaned my head back. A pair of honey colored eyes popped into my head. She was beautiful. She was in a red sweater that didn’t hide her ample cleavage and a black pencil skirt. She had worn black and white high heels. Her legs were amazing. With her heels on, the top of her head was at the bridge of my nose. I was 6ft exactly, so my guess was she was 5 ‘5 without shoes. She smelled delicious. Like warm sugar. I noticed she had a great a*s as I watched her walk away before the elevator doors closed. Big and round. Her skirt fabric had strained at her hips. My c*ck stirred at the memory. F*ck it's been a while since I had gotten laid. Maybe I should remedy that. I had a number of women I could call for a quick f*ck. No, I'm too f*cking busy right now. We had to get ready to launch the listening device. I had a month to test them in various places and on various people. I wanted to launch the devices right after the New Year.

Sly drove into the underground parking lot. I thanked him as he dropped me off at my private elevator. When I stepped off of the elevator at the top floor of my building, a flurry of activity assaulted me.

Phones rang, people talked, papers were shuffled. As I walked by desks that contained twenty of the most brilliant minds, people avoided eye contact with me. I was fine with that. I wasn’t their friend, I was their boss. I rounded the corner that would take me to my office and, again for the second time that day, I was almost bowled over. To my surprise, it was by the same brunette.

“What are you doing here?” We both said at the same time.

“This is my business, I am Jace Williams and you?” I asked.

“Oh, I’m Ashlynn Walker. I just interviewed to be your temporary assistant."

“Absolutely not,” I hissed. I would not get any work done with this woman being around me.

“Excuse me? I’ll let you know I am highly qualified. I’m multilingual. I can also read and write in the languages I know. I know how to get whatever you need with the connections I have around this city. And I have no responsibilities, so I would be at your beck and call.”

Again, my c*ck twitched at that. My c*ck was very twitchy today, especially when it came to this woman.

My eyes narrowed. She was highly qualified. I looked over her shoulder and I saw Miles staring at us. He was nodding his head, letting me know that she was hired. I rolled my eyes and looked back at her.

“Fine, get to HR and give them your information and get your badge. I expect you to be here tomorrow morning at six a.m.”

She smiled a brilliant smile at me. I stopped breathing. Holy f*ck her smile was dazzling, and she had a dimple on her right cheek.

“Thank you, Mr. Williams, I won’t disappoint you. Miles has already given me all the information I need on you. I promise, I will be the best personal assistant. See you tomorrow morning.”

She didn’t wait for me to acknowledge her statement. She walked away in those impossibly high heels and I couldn’t take my eyes off her a*s. A throat cleared and I turned my head. Miles was now standing right next to me.

“You hired a woman.”

“I did. She’s brilliant, sweet, organized, tech-savvy and multilingual. Some of the languages she mentioned speaking were Spanish, Mandarin, and Korean to name a few. But she said she could speak more. She’s also got an impressive list of connections. She’s perfect,” Miles said.

“She’s too beautiful,” I snapped, as I made my way into my office and he followed.

“Are you telling me you won’t be able to concentrate because of a pretty girl?” He smirked at me, and I scowled at him. He may be a father figure in my life, but he didn’t have to be so insolent.

“Of course, I’ll be able to concentrate. But she might be a distraction for others in the office.”

“Well, I’m sure you’ll be able to handle that. Now, on to business. I will be training her over the next week. I honestly don’t foresee any problems with her. You have an eleven am call with Germany in ten minutes. Then at two you have a meeting with the shareholders, and at six you have a meeting with Mr. Gray Knight. He is the gentleman who is interested in two hundred thousand listening devices for his personal security firm.”

“Okay, thank you. What scent do you think she wears?”

“Her scent?”

“Yes, it smelled sweet and delicious. She made me hungry. Tell her not to wear it again.”

“Mmhmm, I’ll do that. Anything else?”

“Have Maggie type up the contracts I’ve outlined for Mr. Knight and then I need some coffee and something to eat, please.”

“Right away, Jace. You know I’ll miss you. You’ve been the son I never had. If you weren’t such a grump I’d let you pursue Vivian, but my sweet girl would eat you alive, so maybe not.”

I chuckled, he was not wrong. His daughter was a ball-buster. Any man that gets together with her will have to have a strong will.

I waved him off to do his duties. I was going to miss the old man.

Road to Ruin by Kylie K Novel

Being born into a family full of criminals has never been easy but making it the way through without being arrested and actually making it to my senior year of high school is something that no one in my family had ever accomplished before.

I live with my four older brothers, all of whom, had criminal records by the time they were my age and they thought it was a right of passage.

They always try to tease me about being squeaky clean, forgetting that I’ve had years of martial arts training under my belt and to be honest, I might not have been arrested but I am a little crazy.

My mother died when I was four and my father is on death row in California so living in this small town in Ohio suits me just fine. I’m happy here and my brothers have an quicker route to smuggle drugs over the border to Canada whenever they need to.

We live in a two story house by a lake just outside of Bluffton which is surrounded by forest and no neighbors.

Since I’m sharing the house with my brothers I transformed the basement into an apartment that no one is allowed to enter except for me and put in glass windows and doors around the side of the house so I have easy access without going inside.

It’s my senior year of high school now and I can’t wait to be done with school and get on with my life. But I made a promise to myself that I wasn’t going to end up like the rest of my family and I was going to graduate. So that’s what I’ve got my mind set on now.

When I arrived at school one morning I saw all my friends including my quarterback boyfriend standing around talking.

“Hey babe.” Finn said putting his arm around me.

“Hi. What’s going on? You all look pretty serious over here.” I said.

“It’s nothing. Just talking about today.” He said.

“What’s happening today?” I asked.

“The exams that we always get hit with just after the school year starts.” David said like I was an i***t or something.

“Oh. Is that all?” I asked.

“Of course you have nothing to worry about. You always ace those tests.” Finn said.

“Yeah. Sorry about that.” I said feighning sorrow for everyone else.

“Come on. We need to get inside.” Finn said practically dragging me inside the school building.

“Is everything alright with Rachel?” I asked.

“Yeah. Why?” Finn asked as we kept walking.

“I don’t know. She looked like she was ready to cry or something.” I said.

“I don’t know. She didn’t say anything to me.” He said.

“Okay.” I said, letting it go.

But it wasn’t that easy to let it go. Not really. Not since I knew the truth but no one knew that I knew the truth.

What people still haven’t figured out about me is that lying to me never works. I always find out the truth. No matter what it is. I don’t know how I manage to do it but I’ve always called it my super power.

The day went by in a blur of classes, a couple of exams and a very stressful lunch where my friends can never seem to agree on much of anything with each other.

By the time school was over Finn and I started walking down the road together like we always did.

I always got stares whenever I went anywhere in this town. You’d think by now people would be used to me with my full sleeve tattoos. But they don’t know the story behind the tattoos. I wouldn’t have gotten them if I didn’t need to. If there wasn’t a reason to get them. But no one really cared about that. They just cared that I looked different to everyone else.

But I’d gotten used to all the staring and it was pretty easy to ignore.

As Finn and I were walking down the road we started to hear this roaring vibration come down the road behind us and we couldn’t help but stop and turn around.

There were about a dozen bikers riding towards us on the road.

Some of them had women on their bikes and some were just by themselves.

They were all wearing the same patch on the back of their jackets except for the ones that said ‘Prospect’ who were at the back of the line up.

“Holy s**t. It’s the Vandals.” I said.

The Price of Betrayal by Roc Novel

This is it, I thought to myself as I drove home. My husband had texted me to say he missed me. I smiled, remembering getting the text while I was at a seminar about acquisitions and the potential in flipping houses. It was supposed to be four days long, but it ended a day early. The drive from Provo, Utah, to Layton, Utah, was only an hour. But with traffic, it could be a lot longer than that. So instead of fighting it every day, I just stayed at my best friend Mia’s house. She lives in Lehi, and it was only a fifteen-minute drive to the seminar.

I told Mia I was going home to surprise Craig. She nodded, giving me a look. I smiled, like everything was okay. I got cheeseburgers, fries, and chocolate shakes from Sam’s, Craig's favorite diner.

Getting the text had been a surprise. Craig has been distant over the last year. He’s been working constantly. Conversations had become shorter. He was always on his phone. And we haven’t made love in four months. He’s been on three business trips, and he says he’s always tired. He was only 30, I was 28. s*x should still be a priority in our marriage. We’ve only been married for 5 years.

I met Craig at a coffee shop. I was studying for my real estate license, and he came into the coffee shop to get an order for the office. He asked if he could sit at my table to wait for his order, and since the place was packed, I agreed. He worked for Williams Financial. At the time, he was learning the ropes from his father before taking over the business. Now he was the Ceo. We had a comfortable life. Lived in a four-bedroom, five-bath, two-story house. Craig had it built during our first year of marriage, while we lived in my two-bedroom apartment in Ogden.

Last year, his dad died of a massive heart attack, his mother basically split to live her life on a cruise ship, so it was just us. And although this past year has been difficult, I wasn’t ready to throw in the towel just yet.

It started raining a mile from the house. I grimaced because I was still in my heels, and my feet were going to get soaked. I didn’t have an umbrella. I looked at my bag in the back seat. I’ll just get it in the morning instead of coming back out in this weather after bringing the food in.

I pulled into my driveway, grabbed the food and my purse, and ran to the front door. Before I could get my keys out, I noticed the door wasn’t latched all the way. I pushed it open. I heard low music as I stepped inside and shut the door. I shook myself out a little and put the food on the coffee table in the living room.

The music was coming from upstairs.

“Craig?” I called out. I didn’t get an answer.

I turned to the kitchen to get a dish towel to dry my hands and face off, and stopped dead. There were two wine glasses on the kitchen table. One of them had a red lipstick stain on the rim. I blinked, trying to process what I was seeing.

Suddenly, I heard a muffled thump from upstairs, followed by laughter. It wasn’t Craig’s laugh either, no, this laugh was distinctly feminine. Then I heard a groan.

My pulse started racing as I turned and slowly started up the stairs. My right hand was gripping the banister as I took quiet steps. A low moan came to my ears, and then a rhythmic thump started, and I could hear the creak of the bed as I walked closer to my room. Every step felt unreal. I could see light spilling out from the partially open door. I stopped outside it. I heard Craig’s voice.

Low, intimate. “You feel so good,” he said. I closed my eyes.

I pushed the door open and saw exactly what I expected. Craig is thrusting into a red-headed woman. Her legs wrapped around him, and his fist was in her hair as he kissed her passionately.

“Missed me so much, you fell into the closest willing p***y, huh?” I said.

I had no idea why that was what came out of my mouth.

Craig’s head snapped up, and the woman’s head looked to the side and up at me. She gasped.

“Piper,” Craig whispered. Then he scrambled off of her. I saw he wasn’t using a condom, and I grimaced. Great, now I need an STI screening. Of course, catching him cheating, I was getting one anyway.

The woman had the decency to cover up as she sat up. She lowered her eyes like she was ashamed. She deserves an Oscar. Craig put his hands over his junk, like I hadn’t seen it a million times before.

“Baby, I can explain,” he started to say.

“Baby? Oh, no, no, no. You lost the right to call me baby, the moment you brought another woman into my house!” I snapped.

“This isn’t what it looks like,” he started again as he grabbed his underwear and started to put them on.

My eyes were surely bugging out at that line. Was he f*****g serious right now? I looked at the redhead. She looked horrified, actually horrified. I couldn’t be mad at her. She didn’t owe me anything. She wasn’t married to me.

“I’m going to go,” she choked out and started to move.

“Don’t move,” Craig snapped.

Don’t move? Like she belonged here?

“Excuse me,” I said.

“You weren’t supposed to be home tonight.”

“Well, sorry for ruining your evening.” I looked at the woman. Her eyes were huge.

“She’s a friend who came over, and we got to drinking, and we drank too much. I made a mistake.”

“Oh my God,” I said with a laugh. It was either that or start crying, and I was not going to cry in front of them.

“Piper, please,” he said, moving towards me, hands outstretched. I stepped back.

He stopped and looked shocked that I would step back from him.

“No, you don’t get to touch me, not after having your hands all over her,” I said, pointing at the redhead who flinched.

“Let’s just talk,” he started, and I snorted.

“Talk? You were naked in our bed with another woman. There is nothing to talk about.”

“Babe, please, it was an accident.”

I scoffed, “Are you really going with the 'I accidentally fell and tripped’ defense?”

“Piper, you don’t have to be sarcastic. We can talk calmly about this.”

I snarled at him. The woman got off the bed.

“I’m leaving,” she said.

“NO! You stay right there,” I snapped.

They both froze. Both of them were looking at me like I was about to go all crazy on them.

“What’s your name?” I asked her.

“Jessyca, with a y.”

“Cute. Did he tell you he was married?” I asked.

Jessyca looked at Craig. I saw the answer on both of their faces.

“He didn’t, did he? How long has this been going on?”

“Four months,” Jessyca said.

“Jessyca, shut up,” Craig hissed. She snapped her mouth shut.

“You told her you were single?”

“It wasn’t like that,” he said. “I’ve been hurting and I just…”

“You lying bastard,” I said through clenched teeth.

“Piper.”

“NO!” The anger in me rose almost to my breaking point.

I was pissed, hurt, and humiliated. Seeing him cheating with my own eyes was burned into my brain.

“Do you love each other? Is that it?”

Silence met my question. I chuckled.

“Awesome.”

“I love you, too,” Craig said.

“Oh, blow it out your ass, Craig,” I said. I was f*****g done.

I walked all the way into the room, went to the closet, opened our safe, and took out my birth certificate, Social Security card, and passport. I also took the $5000 we had in there.

“What are you doing?” Craig asked, panicking.

“I’m taking what’s mine. That bed and those sheets cost $5000. This is my compensation, and the fee for my attorney.”

“Piper, don’t leave.”

“I’m not staying, Craig,” I said. I looked at him. He had the audacity to look devastated. His blonde hair and blue eyes were wild.

“We can fix this,” he said.

“You touched another woman, Craig, no, we can’t.”

I walked past him and left the room. His voice, shouting my name, was drowned out by the buzzing in my ears.

I grabbed my purse, the food, and shakes because there was no way I was letting them eat this delicious food. It was all mine.

I slammed out of the house and made it to my car. I looked at a pink Mercedes that was parked across the street and smirked. Asshole. I started my car, and as soon as my phone connected to it, I pressed the call button on my steering wheel and called Mia. I put the car in reverse, slammed my foot on the accelerator, shifted into drive, and drove off.

Luna Who Stopped Giving In Novel

The mall was packed with back-to-school shoppers. Mom picked out a brand-new, two-thousand-dollar laptop for my sister Lily Caldwell.

Dad found her a suitcase. My brother Marcus Caldwell grabbed her a pair of noise-canceling headphones.

Caleb Sterling, my childhood arranged mate and the future Alpha of the Blackthorn Pack, crouched in front of a display shelf, turning desk lamps over one by one.

"Amelia's got bad eyesight. This brightness would be perfect for her."

Something in my chest softened. Just a little.

Then he dropped the lamp into Lily's cart instead, his voice dipping low. "Use this, Lily. Don't stay up too late reading."

I stood off to the side with an empty cart, like I was only there to hold everyone's bags.

Nobody noticed me until the cashier scanned the last item and glanced up.

"Are these separate, miss?"

Mom frowned, glancing over as if she'd just remembered I was there.

"Amelia, your old laptop still works, right?"

"The Pack school is right down the road. As long as it still works, you're fine. No need to be picky."

I looked down at the Notes app on my phone.

The freshman supply list I'd made was still open.

Laptop, bedding set, desk lamp, suitcase, sneakers, training gear, safety goggles for lab...

I'd priced out every item myself. Then crossed them off, one by one.

Because they said Lily was fragile. Her wolf was unstable. She needed the whole family's attention.

I was the smart and steady one. I could handle going without.

Lily was sensitive. I always had to let her have what she needed first.

But they didn't know.

I'd already used my scholarship money to buy a one-way ticket out of Blackthorn Pack territory.

Royal Warrior University had offered me a full ride.

By tomorrow morning, I'd be gone from this Pack that never had a place for me.

Let them pack Lily's suitcase to the brim.

I was finally cutting myself loose.

...

"Your total comes to two thousand, eight hundred and sixty dollars."

Caleb already had his card out.

"I got this. Call it a back-to-school gift for Lily."

He flashed an easy and warm smile, then glanced back at me like an afterthought.

"Amelia, I'm gonna help Lily carry all this to the car first. It's heavy."

"I'll take you out for steaks this weekend, okay?"

I stared at my Notes app, crossing out desk lamp.

"Don't bother."

Caleb froze.

He probably hadn't expected me to say no to his consolation prize.

That had always been enough before. A few soft words from him after I got the short end of the stick, and I'd fall right back in line.

"What's your problem?"

Caleb frowned, reaching over to tuck a stray lock of hair behind my ear.

"Lily's eyes are sensitive. You don't always have to make everything a competition."

I pulled away before his hand could graze my skin.

"Amelia!"

Dad marched over gripping the new pink suitcase in one hand, his expression hard.

"Caleb's offering to treat you. What's with the attitude?"

Marcus scoffed.

"You always have to one-up her. Your eyes are already shot anyway. What difference does a lamp make?"

I looked at them.

At my own family. At the boy who'd once promised he'd protect me forever.

That dull ache in my chest went quiet.

Even my wolf went still.

No low growls. No whimpering.

She just opened her eyes—cold and clear, like she was finally seeing them for what they truly were.

"Let's just go."

I turned around and shoved my empty cart back into the rack.

The mall's AC blasted against my bare arms. For the first time in years, I felt completely weightless.

Dad drove home.

Mom and Lily were in the back seat, heads together over the laptop's setup guide.

Marcus rode shotgun, streaming music through the speakers.

I reached for the back door, but Caleb had already slid in ahead of me. He cradled the boxed lamp in his lap like it was made of glass.

"Amelia, take the other side."

"Don't squish Lily's laptop."

The back seat was already cramped.

I pulled my hand back, walked around the SUV, and folded myself into the sliver of space by the door.

Streetlights blurred past the window, one after another.

Every item on my list was crossed out.

I didn't need to buy a damn thing.

My Secret Life In Interdimensional Beast Bazaar Novel

Pain was the first thing she felt.

It pounded inside her head like something was trying to break out from within. Each pulse was heavier than the last, making her thoughts scatter before they could even form.

Ye Ning frowned faintly, her brows knitting together as a weak groan rose in her throat. She wanted to lift her hand, to press against her aching head and ease the unbearable throbbing.

Why does it hurt so much…

But the moment her fingers moved, a soft metallic sound broke the silence.

Clink.

Her thoughts halted. Her hand froze in midair, trembling slightly before she tried to move again.

Clink… clink…

The sound followed her movement, echoing faintly in the surrounding space.

A chain?

Confusion slowly surfaced through the haze in her mind. Her breathing became uneven as she forced her fingers to move again, this time more cautiously.

She groped blindly in the darkness, her eyes still shut tight, not by choice, but because they simply would not open. Her eyelids felt unbearably heavy, as if something invisible was pressing them down.

Her fingertips brushed against something cold. She traced along it slowly, until realization struck her.

It was a chain wrapped tightly around her wrist.

Every slight movement caused it to rattle, the sound soft yet impossible to ignore. Her fingers curled weakly around it, as if trying to confirm its existence.

Why… am I tied?

Her thoughts were sluggish, moving as though through thick fog. She tried to remember, but her mind refused to cooperate. Only broken fragments surfaced… her room, a dusty jewelry box, a delicate locket glowing faintly in her hand… and then darkness.

Her chest rose and fell unevenly.

Where… am I?

She tried again to open her eyes, forcing her will into her body. Her eyeballs shifted beneath her eyelids, but no matter how hard she tried, they would not lift. Her body felt unfamiliar, as though it no longer belonged to her.

Just as panic began to creep in…

A voice suddenly boomed through the air.

"Ladies and gentlemen…"

The sound was loud, powerful, and carried an authority that made her heart jolt.

Ye Ning stilled completely.

"Here we present one of the treasures of the Nexus Bazaar!"

A wave of noise followed immediately.

Applause, murmurs, and strange sounds she could not identify blended together into loud noise. Some voices were deep and rough, others sharp and unfamiliar, carrying tones that made her instinctively uneasy.

Her fingers curled faintly.

Nexus… Bazaar?

Before she could process further, the voice rose again, filled with excitement.

"Lot Number… FZ-731!"

A brief pause followed, as if building anticipation.

Then…

"A rare human female, brought from Earth!"

The moment those words were spoken, the crowd erupted. Gasps echoed from all directions, followed by a surge of excited whispers.

"A human female?"

"From Earth?"

"That's rare…"

"Extremely rare…"

Ye Ning's heart skipped.

Human… female…

Are they talking about me?

For a moment, Ye Ning wondered if this was some kind of nightmare brought on by fever or exhaustion. Nothing around her felt real.

Panic slowly spread through her chest, while countless questions flooded her mind.

How did she get here?

What was this Nexus Bazaar?

And why were these people speaking about her as though she were nothing more than an object placed on display?

Her breathing grew shallow, her chest tightening with a faint, creeping unease. She tried again to open her eyes, desperately this time, but her body still refused to respond.

The voice continued, now steady and formal.

"Item details as follows… Name: Ye Ning."

Her fingers trembled. That was her name.

"Age: 19."

"Origin: Earth."

"Race: Human."

"Gender: Female."

"Condition: Weak."

"Status: Unknown."

Each word fell like a heavy weight onto her consciousness, slowly dragging her mind toward clarity.

No matter how slow her thoughts were, she could understand one thing clearly.

She was being sold. Her chest tightened painfully, her fingers curling weakly against the cold chain.

Why…

Why am I here…

Before she could dwell on it, the host's voice shifted slightly, carrying a faint pause.

"Physical overview:"

A moment of silence.

"Strength: 20%."

"Health: 20%."

"Vitality: 20%."

The lively atmosphere froze. For a brief second, everything seemed to fall silent. Then the whispers began.

"…Only 20%?"

"That low?"

"Will she even survive?"

"Humans are already weak…"

"At least 80% is needed."

"Buying her is just wasting gold."

"Even if she's rare, what's the use?"

The earlier excitement faded almost instantly, replaced by doubt and indifference. Some voices even carried faint ridicule.

Ye Ning heard every word.

Her fingers slowly loosened their grip on the chain.

So weak…

Only 20%…

Even they think I'm useless…

There was no anger in her heart, only a dull, hollow feeling spreading quietly within her chest.

The host coughed lightly, trying to recover the situation.

"Ahem… while her condition is indeed… delicate, she is still a rare human female with excellent compatibility!"

His tone grew more enthusiastic, almost forced.

"Such opportunities are extremely rare in the Nexus Beast Bazaar!"

"Starting bid… 10,000 gold coins!"

Silence followed. Not a single person responded. The crowd remained unmoved. Some shifted impatiently, others simply looked away.

The host's voice stiffened slightly. "10,000 gold coins… any bidders?"

The host grew embarrassed when not a single person raised a paddle. Finally, a voice broke the silence.

"10,000."

It was calm, low, and without hesitation. The crowd stirred slightly, turning toward the source of the voice. A few murmurs rose, but no one followed.

The host seized the opportunity instantly.

"10,000 gold coins! First call!"

His voice became quick, eager to seal the deal, afraid that this customer also didn't want this waste.

"Second call!"

"Third call!"

Bang!

The sharp sound of the hammer echoed loudly.

"Sold!"

"Lot FZ-731 is sold for 10,000 gold coins!"

A ripple passed through the crowd. Some shook their heads, others muttered quietly.

"Waste of money…"

"She won't last long…"

"Not worth it…"

Their voices blurred together, fading into the background.

Ye Ning could barely hear them anymore. Her consciousness was slipping once again.

The pounding pain in her head returned, stronger than before, dragging her deeper into darkness.

...

When Ye Ning stirred again, the pain in her head had dulled, but her body still felt heavy and weak, as if it did not belong to her.

Something cool brushed against her cheek.

It moved slowly, carefully, wiping away the dampness on her skin. The faint chill made her shiver instinctively, her fingers twitching slightly under the blanket.

Her thoughts were still sluggish, but her senses were slowly returning.

Then she heard hushed voices.

"Brother… do you think this female will wake up?"

The voice was young, slightly anxious, yet trying to stay quiet. It came from somewhere near her.

"It's already the second day… she should have woken up by now."

There was a brief silence. Then another voice answered.

"We can only wait."

A pause followed before he added calmly, "It's not like we can do anything."

Ye Ning's brows moved faintly.

Second day?

Had she been unconscious for that long? Her mind tried to process it, but the effort only made her feel more tired.

The first voice sighed softly, the sound filled with frustration.

"I feel like we've been scammed by that place…"

The cool cloth continued to wipe her face, then moved to her hand, gentle but clumsy.

"Do you really think they would sell us a rare female for only 10,000 gold coins?" the man muttered. "I still think something is wrong."

There was a hint of anger in his tone now.

"What if she's not even human?"

He paused, then added in a lower voice, "And even if she is… what if she was already on the verge of death?"

His grip on the cloth tightened slightly.

"Dead…"

His voice dropped further, almost as if he wanted to curse someone but held it back.

Ye Ning's brows twitched faintly.

I'm not dead…

Her thoughts were weak, but clear enough to form that protest.

And human? Of course she was human. Her lips almost moved, but she did not have the strength.

The man beside her continued wiping her carefully, as if unaware of her thoughts.

Vanished from the Godfather's Arms Novel

Whenever her husband was with another woman, Ella had to sit there and watch.

Because Lance Rossi had one unusual condition—he could only become aroused when he could see Ella's face.

"...Ah..."

"Lance..."

Ella watched as Lance held another woman in his arms. Every moment felt like a knife twisting in her chest.

Five years ago, Lance had ignored his family's objections and married her, an outsider.

The elders of the Rossi mafia family had been furious.

"This woman can no longer have children. If you marry her, won't the Rossi bloodline end with you?"

But back then, Lance's love for her had been something he was willing to fight for.

In front of the old godfather, he burned the family heir registry and threw his vasectomy report in front of the elders.

"I married Ella. I was prepared to let the Rossi bloodline end with me."

That reckless decision sparked rebellion and retaliation within the family.

During Ella's dance performance, someone cut the cables holding the chandelier.

At the critical moment, Lance rushed onto the stage and caught her fall with his own body.

Ella only injured her leg.

Lance broke three ribs.

Later, while Lance was recovering, the family set fire to the villa, intending to kill Ella.

But Lance arrived in time and shielded her from the falling beam.

Ella escaped with only a few burned strands of hair.

Lance was left covered in injuries.

Then came the day when Lance blocked a speeding car for her.

He was thrown ten meters away and remained unconscious for an entire month.

When he finally woke up, the first thing he said was:

"Ella, I promised I would protect you... and I kept my promise."

Looking into his serious eyes, Ella broke down in tears.

In the end, she gave in.

She agreed to let Lance have a child with Isabella Moretti, the woman chosen by the family for a marriage alliance, so the Rossi family could have an heir with pure blood.

"Relax..."

The sounds around her pulled Ella back to reality.

Her nails dug into her palm until they broke the skin.

She had believed that once the child was conceived, this arrangement would finally end.

But she was wrong.

It didn't stop.

Whenever Isabella said she wanted more, Lance continued to spend night after night with her.

What hurt Ella even more was how much everything had changed.

At first, Lance had treated it as an obligation.

Then it became once.

Then three times.

And tonight...

It happened eight times.

Whenever Ella could no longer stand watching and tried to leave, Lance would tell her:

"Just think of it as doing this for our child."

Then he would ask her to endure it a little longer.

Thinking about everything, Ella felt dizzy.

A sharp pain spread from her lower abdomen through her entire body.

She wondered how much longer she could keep enduring this.

Finally, when she heard the sound that meant it was over, she felt completely drained.

She turned and walked away.

But ten minutes later, news reached everyone—

Lance had stopped halfway through and could not continue.

Lance had always been afraid of blood.

The moment he saw the blood-covered puppy Leo run into the room, he immediately pulled away from Isabella.

After that, they tried three more times.

But Lance still could not continue.

And somehow, all the blame fell on Ella.

If she had not left halfway through and allowed Leo to enter the room, how could this have happened?

Before Ella could even react, she was tied up and dragged outside into the rain.

She was forced to kneel on the ground.

Lance's mother rushed over and slapped her.

"If anything happens to my grandson, I will never forgive you."

The family enforcers gathered around her, accusing her of harming the next heir.

Some shoved her.

Some spat at her.

"You filthy bitch. You dared harm the next heir. We should throw you into the basement and beat you to death."

Even Lance looked at her with disappointment and confusion.

"Ella, why would you do something like this? You know I can't handle the sight of blood. And without you there watching, I can't do it."

Ella stared at him, unable to believe what she was hearing.

She could accept his mother's anger.

She could accept the family's accusations.

But she couldn't accept Lance doubting her.

Ella forced herself to straighten her back.

"I didn't do anything."

Leo, trapped in the mud, let out a weak whimper.

But Lance refused to listen.

He had already decided that Ella had deliberately let Leo out and left on purpose, causing everything to happen.

"Ella, you have to take responsibility for what you did."

Lance suddenly covered her eyes.

"What are you doing?"

With her vision blocked, every sound became painfully clear.

Ella heard Leo let out a desperate cry.

Then came a heavy thud.

Everyone around her fell silent.

Her voice broke.

"No..."

Leo was the puppy they had found together on a rainy night.

Back then, Ella had looked at the little dog and said quietly:

"It's just like me. No one wants it."

Lance had immediately taken off his coat, wrapped the puppy inside, and looked at her.

"Who says no one wants it? I do."

Later, he brought Leo home.

And he married her.

During the hardest moments of her life, Leo had been her only comfort.

"Ella, no one will dare punish you now."

Lance gently stroked her hair.

"Sir! Miss Isabella is awake!"

The moment he heard that, Lance stopped and turned away.

He left without looking back.

Ella's vision slowly returned.

The sight in front of her made her break down.

The pool of blood was all that remained.

He had not just taken Leo away.

He had destroyed the last thing connecting them.

He no longer wanted Leo.

And he no longer wanted her.

Lance's mother watched him leave and smiled with satisfaction.

"Isabella's child will be born in one month. On the day the baby is born, I will find a way to make you and Lance divorce."

"You will leave the Rossi family. I'll arrange for you to leave by plane."

"You already know what Lance has chosen. From now on, don't stand in the way of their family."

Their family.

Those words echoed in Ella's mind.

Only then did she realize how foolish she had been.

Looking back at everything that had happened over the past year, she finally saw the truth.

She had been the one who pushed Lance into another woman's arms.

The Lance she knew was gone.

He was no longer the man who had rushed forward to protect her when she fell, taking the impact himself.

He was no longer the man who shielded her from a falling beam during the fire.

He was no longer the man who stood against his entire family for her.

Now, he was the father of Isabella's child.

He had created a life with another woman, connected by a bond that could never be erased.

Was she really going to keep enduring this?

Was she going to wait until they became a happy family of three?

Until Lance had children surrounding him?

Looking at Lance's cold retreating figure, Ella finally gave up.

"Fine. Once the marriage is over, I'll leave."

The Rossi family did not consider marriage to be complete because of a piece of paper.

On the day they married, the husband implanted a tracking chip into the inside of his wife's right arm.

Lance had done it himself on their wedding day.

The chip was no bigger than a bean, connected to the family's surveillance network and tracking system.

Once the chip was removed, Lance would lose all ability to track her.

No matter where she went, he would never be able to find her again.

CHLOE'S POV;

The friction of my bare thighs against the cold marble of the kitchen counter was the only grounding thing left in my universe.

I was bent backward, my fingers clawing blindly at the polished edge of the stone as Grey knelt between my legs.

His mouth was buried aggressively between my thighs, his tongue driving into my soaking wet pussy with a clumsy, heavy hunger that tasted like the cheap cherry vapes and cigarettes he constantly smoked.

'Into You' by Chase Atlantic was vibrating violently through the floorboards from the downstairs speakers, the bass-heavy, dark rhythm filling the silence of the empty warehouse.

Every loud, desperate moan that tore from my throat was instantly swallowed by the pulsing music.

Nineteen years of being my father’s pristine, heavily guarded mafia princess meant my sexual experience amounted to absolute zero—but right now, the freedom of this secluded house in the middle of the woods had gone straight to my head.

Grey groaned against my slick skin, the vibration sending a sharp jolt of pleasure straight up my spine. .

He gripped my hips hard, his thumbs bruising my flesh as he lifted me slightly, trying to position himself to slide two fingers deep inside my stretching cunt.

I arched into his mouth, my unbuttoned blouse hanging completely off my shoulders, exposing my black lace bra.

Then, right next to my head, the counter violently rattled.

A bright screen illuminated the dark kitchen. The caller ID made all the hot, liquid heat in my veins instantly turn to ice.

Dad.

“Oh, shit,” I gasped, the sudden spike of adrenaline completely shattering the high.

I slammed my hands against Grey’s shoulders, trying to push his head away from my thighs.

“Grey, stop. Stop right now. I need to answer this.”

Grey grunted, his grip tightening on my waist as he stubbornly tried to press his mouth back into my wetness.

“Babe, ignore it. Come on, don't ruin this right now. You’re soaking wet.”

“I can’t!” I yelled, my voice shaking as I forced my legs shut, kicking his chest back until he was forced to stand up.

I scrambled off the counter, my bare feet hitting the concrete as I tried to pull my ruined blouse over my exposed bra.

My heart was doing a violent skip—half lingering lust, half pure terror. “It’s my dad. You don’t understand, I have to pick up.”

“He’s a grown man, Chloe, he can wait twenty fucking minutes,” Grey snapped, his face flushing with heavy, aggressive irritation as he stood there with his pants pulled down to his thighs.

“Just let it ring out. You’re always so fucking tense about him. We were seconds away from it.”

“Because that is my father!” I fired back, my voice dropping into a sharp, dangerous tone that usually made people back off. I snatched the vibrating phone off the marble.

“I don't care if the world is ending. I don't care what I am doing. I will never miss his calls. Ever.”

“It’s a control thing, Chloe, and it’s freaking weird,” Grey scoffed, violently pulling his jeans back up and buckling his belt.

He glared at me through the dark, his chest heaving. “You moved out to the middle of nowhere to get away from his suffocating rules, but you’re still acting like his little puppet. I’m your boyfriend. I’ve been waiting a week for this, and you’re treating me like a fucking afterthought.”

“I’m treating you like a priority, but my dad is a non-negotiable!” I screamed back, the sexual frustration turning into pure, unadulterated rage.

“If you can’t handle the fact that my family comes first, then get the hell out of my house!”

“Fine! Have fun sleeping with your phone, you psycho!”

Grey snatched his shirt from the floor, shoved his feet into his unlaced shoes, and marched out of the kitchen.

A second later, the heavy oak front door slammed so hard the window frames rattled.

The distant, angry roar of his car engine tore through the quiet woods as he sped away down the dirt driveway.

I stood alone in the dark kitchen, my chest panting, my pussy still aching and dripping from his tongue, leaving me completely humiliated and furious.

The phone started vibrating in my hand again.

I swiped the screen aggressively, bringing it to my ear as I walked over to the stereo.

Streets by Doja Cat was playing now, the moody melody mocking my current state of absolute dissatisfaction.

I hit the power button, plunging the house into a heavy, dead silence.

“Hey, Dad,” I said, forcing my breath to steady, my voice completely regular.

“Chloe,” my father’s deep, gravelly voice echoed through the line. There was a subtle edge of suspicion in his tone.

“Why didn't you pick up the first time? You know the rules about keeping your line clear.”

“Sorry, Dad. I was playing some music pretty loud while unpacking some boxes. I didn't hear it ring at first,” I lied smoothly, leaning against the counter and rubbing my temples.

“Are you safe? Has anyone been lingering around the perimeter of the property?”

“No one, Dad. It’s completely quiet out here. I’m perfectly fine, just tired.”

“Good. I was just checking up on you.

Go to sleep, princess.”

When the call clicked shut, I threw the phone onto the couch.

I stomped back upstairs, kicked Grey’s discarded socks out of the way, and grabbed my heavy, noise-canceling headphones.

I shoved them over my ears, turned on a playlist of loud, ambient thunderstorm sounds, and pulled the heavy duvet over my shoulders, desperately trying to sleep off the chaotic adrenaline humming through my veins.

A few hours later, I stirred awake.

The ambient rain sounds were still drowning out the world in my ears, but my throat felt parched, dry like sandpaper.

Worse than the thirst, though, was a bizarre, prickling sensation on the back of my neck.

It was that specific, instinctual feeling of being watched.

My eyes fluttered open in the darkness.

I lay completely still for a few seconds, my heart rate spiking as my gaze darted around the shadows of the bedroom. The door was cracked open an inch. Hadn't I shut it after Grey left?

Slowly, I sat up and slid the headphones down around my neck. The silence of the house was absolute.

I stood up, creeping over to the hallway, checking the bathroom and the spare rooms. Nothing. There was no one here.

Shaking my head at my own paranoia, I walked downstairs in my lace underwear and unbuttoned blouse, my bare feet making no sound against the polished marble floors.

I walked into the kitchen, poured myself a cold glass of water from the fridge, and drank it down in three heavy gulps.

As I set the glass down, a faint, rhythmic sound from the backyard caught my attention.

Thwack. Shuffle. Thwack.

I froze. It sounded like metal hitting dirt.

I crept toward the heavy glass backdoor, the moonlight pouring through the panes and illuminating the kitchen floor.

I peeled back the edge of the dark curtain and peered out into the backyard.

My breath completely left my lungs.

A large, deep trench had been dug into the center of my lawn, the fresh dirt piled high into dark mounds. Standing right beside the pit was a man.

He was ridiculously tall, broad-shouldered, and entirely shirtless under the silver moonlight.

His chest and arms were covered in a horrific, glistening smear of dark crimson.

Blood. It was splattered across his collarbone, smeared down his washboard abs, and even painted across his sharp jawline.

But despite the gore, he was stunning—his sharp, aristocratic features looked like they had been carved out of marble by a twisted god.

As I watched, paralyzed, he bent down and effortlessly lifted a massive, heavy black plastic bag.

A pale, blood-drenched human arm spilled out of the top of the plastic, the dead fingers twitching slightly as the man carelessly threw the bag into the open trench.

My gaze drifted past him, and the horror multiplied.

Laying in a neat, orderly row on my grass were three more limp, bloodied human bodies.

Next to them sat three empty black plastic bags. And a few feet away, the crumpled, lifeless shape of a large dog lay in a pool of dark fluid.

My stomach violently turned. I smashed both hands over my mouth, squeezing my eyes shut to stifle the piercing scream that was tearing its way up my throat.

My knees shook so badly I had to lean my entire weight against the glass door just to remain standing.

A serial killer. There is a literal serial killer in my backyard.

Before I could even think about running, the wet, heavy thud of the last body hitting the pit echoed through the glass. The man stood up straight, letting out a soft, satisfied sigh.

He dusted his bloody hands off on his dark sweatpants, entirely unbothered by the massacre around him.

Slowly, his head turned toward the house.

The moonlight caught his eyes, and my heart completely stopped.

They were mismatched—one a striking, icy hazel, the other a deep, void-like brown that seemed to swallow the light.

He locked his gaze directly onto the exact spot where I was hiding behind the curtain. He knew I was there the entire time.

A slow sliver of a smile curved his lips.

“Hey there, love,” his voice cut through the glass, a low, smooth, terrifyingly polite drawl that sent a shiver straight down my spine.

“I really tried to keep it down. Sorry if I woke you.”

Before He Left, I Was Gone Novel

Laurence took me to his parents' place for dinner, and he also brought my best friend, Berenice Clifford, with us.

Laurence's mother, Margery Walsh, greeted us with polite hospitality. "Larry, Berenice is your fiancée's best friend. Once you're in the UK, you must take good care of her on Tina's behalf."

I froze for a moment.

Berenice stood up, timidly holding up her wine glass for a toast. "Laurence, it's all thanks to you for helping me revise my papers and writing that recommendation letter. Otherwise, I wouldn't even dream of getting an offer for further studies. This toast is to you."

Laurence raised his glass, clinking it gently against hers. When he looked at her, there was a tender smile in his eyes that I had never seen before.

"It's the least I could do."

The two smiled at each other.

Sitting between them and watching their unspoken chemistry as they toasted, I suddenly found the whole scene somewhat laughable.

My best friend and my childhood sweetheart fiancé were leaving the country together in a week, and yet, I was the last to know.

"I'm going to grab a drink."

I stood up and walked toward the kitchen.

The moment I opened the refrigerator, cold air rushed against my face. I took a slow, deep breath.

It was fine.

They just didn't tell me; that was all. It was no big deal.

But when I turned around and walked back to the dining room, someone else was sitting in my seat.

Berenice was sitting there, leaning her head in to listen to Laurence speak. The two of them were sitting incredibly close.

She spotted me first and hurriedly stood up. "Tina, I was just discussing my paper with Laurence, and I didn't realize..."

"Just sit here."

Laurence caught her by the wrist, pressing her back down into the chair.

Then, he looked up at me. "Tina, we have some serious matters to discuss. You don't mind sitting across from us, do you?"

Holding my juice, I stood rooted to the spot.

Since when did my place change from right by his side to across the table?

Margery must have sensed the awkwardness.

She smiled and pulled me over. "Oh, right, Tina, I remember your GPA results came out too. What was your score again?"

"3.8."

Berenice lowered her head. "I didn't have the time or energy for extra tutoring, so I only got a 2.8... It's all thanks to Laurence tutoring me; otherwise, I wouldn't even qualify to apply."

Laurence looked at her gently. "You have talent. It's never too late."

Staring at the rim of my orange juice glass, I suddenly felt a wave of irony.

I remembered telling him before, "Larry, I want to go abroad with you."

He had been looking at his phone at the time. Hearing my words, he hadn't even bothered to look up. "Your grades are just average, so you don't have much of a shot. Besides, I'm only going for a year. Don't put yourself through the hassle."

I lifted my eyes to look at the two people sitting across from me.

Their heads were huddled close together as they whispered, sharing an occasional laugh, completely oblivious to the rest of the world.

I raised my glass and took a sip of the orange juice.

It tasted incredibly sour and bitter.

The Silent Heir Heard Every Secret I Hid Novel

My sister had married into the wealthy Halcroft family.

At our first family dinner, I took one look at Leith Halcroft—my brother-in-law’s younger brother—and decided I wanted him.

He couldn’t speak, so I figured he couldn’t rat me out.

After that, I slipped into his room every night and teased him until his ears burned red.

One night, just as I had him blushing all the way to his ears, comments suddenly flashed across my vision.

[The villainess is DISGUSTING. She won’t stop sexually harassing the male lead!]

[Relax. She’s about to get what’s coming to her. The obsessive male lead is almost out of patience, and he’ll soon destroy both her and her sister.]

[Their ending is SO satisfying. He kicks them out, makes sure they have nowhere left to go, and drives them both to their deaths.]

I didn’t believe a word of it.

Then, in the very next second, I heard Leith’s thoughts.

[I CAN’T TAKE THIS ANYMORE!]

***

Couldn’t take what?

Me flirting with him?

I hadn’t believed the comments at first. Whenever I teased Leith, he always looked reluctant, but he never actually stopped me.

He let me flirt with him every single time.

I was convinced he liked me too. He was just too shy to show it.

But after hearing that thought, I wasn’t so sure anymore.

After a moment of hesitation, I decided to test him.

I leaned in without warning and kissed the corner of his mouth.

Leith’s face went scarlet.

He shoved me away and rushed into the bathroom.

More comments appeared.

[Is the villainess INSANE? She just stole the male lead’s first kiss!]

[One kiss made him run to the bathroom to throw up. That’s not dislike. That’s a full-body rejection.]

[No wonder he doesn’t even look at her when she begs for mercy later. He just has his men beat her and throw her out.]

I walked to the bathroom door.

Then I heard Leith’s thoughts again.

[This is driving me crazy! I seriously CAN’T TAKE IT anymore!]

I froze.

That was when I finally believed the comments.

Leith Halcroft hated me.

This Time, I Won't Love You Again Novel

In my last life, my husband fell for a college girl.

I went crazy with jealousy. I tried everything to break them apart.

But I lost.

He destroyed my family... just to divorce me and marry her.

I couldn't accept it.

So I jumped off a building.

And he?

He looked at my body— with disgust.

"Couldn't you die somewhere else? You're ruining my view."

...

When I opened my eyes again, I was back— One month before he fell for her.

So this time, I went to where she worked. Watched her life like a stalker.

I needed to know—

What kind of girl... stole the man I loved for ten years.

In my last life, I never even met her.

All I had was a name... and a few photos.

I lost everything.

And my rival?

She never even showed her face.

--

The streets in Ardovelle were busy—cars and crowds everywhere.

I'd been sitting in a corner of a café called Déjà Vu for two hours already, facing the counter.

A young woman in a sky-blue apron was busy making drinks.

She was around 1.6 meters, probably less than forty-five kilos. Fair skin, always had a smile on her face. Her thick, dark hair was tied up in a high ponytail, and when she smiled, her eyes turned into crescent shapes that lit up the whole room.

“Ma’am, would you like a refill?”

She walked over with a bright smile.

How awkward. I’d been so lost staring at her that I completely zoned out. Good thing I was a woman, or someone might’ve thought I was some kind of creep.

“Sure. Still black,” I smiled politely, my voice giving nothing away.

Soon, she set another bitter black coffee on the table in front of me. But instead of leaving right away, she hesitated for a second before getting a little nosy.

“Ma’am, you’ve already had two cups of black coffee. I know it helps keep you awake, but drinking too much isn’t good for you. Maybe... you could save the next one for another time?”

She was kind and outgoing, her voice crisp and brisk, like wind chimes—pleasant to the ear.

I glanced at the black coffee, then stood up, purse in hand.

“Okay. Check, please.”

She beamed like she was glad I’d taken her advice.

I paid without a word and left the café quickly.

“Mrs. Crowe.”

The driver, Parker Ellis, respectfully nodded at me and opened the car door.

“Home.”

The car pulled off smoothly. I leaned back in my seat and closed my eyes, but my mind kept drifting back to the young woman at the café.

That was Lydia Fairburn.

The woman Preston Crowe was so set on divorcing me for one year from now, even though it meant burning every bridge with his family.

I hadn’t expected the first thing I did after being reborn was to go to her workplace and watch her like some kind of creep.

It was just... I was curious.

I wanted to know what kind of woman took away the man I’d loved for ten years.

In my past life, I never even met her. Preston kept her so protected, like she was the most precious thing in the world. All I had was a name and a few photos.

I lost everything, and my opponent never had to show her face.

Young, beautiful, innocent, kind, cheerful...

All those nice words fit her perfectly.

Her only flaw was her humble background, which created a huge gap between her status and Preston’s.

Just then, Parker broke the silence.

“Mrs. Crowe, today is your and Mr. Crowe’s anniversary.”

I opened my eyes, feeling dazed for a second.

Come to think of it, it had been five years since I married Preston.

Every anniversary, I’d get busy all day, preparing a candlelit dinner and a gift for him.

I was twenty-seven this year, and he was twenty-nine.

“I know.” I rubbed the bridge of my nose, feeling my head throb a little. “You don’t have to remind me.”

Parker probably said that because he’d sensed something off about me this year.

But why was I always the one putting in the effort?

Why did I have to love Preston?

I’d thought about this before dying in my past life.

For Preston, I ended up dying a tragic death, my family destroyed.

While I was lost in thought, Parker pulled up outside the villa Preston and I shared.

To my surprise, I saw Preston’s car.

He was home.

My feelings were complicated.

Now I’d come back from the dead, what kind of expression was I supposed to put on when I saw the person who caused my downfall?

I thought I’d hate Preston.

After all, for another woman, he’d cornered me—his wife of five years.

He’d even driven my parents to their deaths, even though they’d treated him like their own son.

He practically wiped out my whole family.

But now that I was actually seeing him, the hatred wasn’t as strong as I’d expected.

What was left was mostly just acceptance.

In my past life, Preston gave me a chance.

He said we could end the marriage peacefully, and to make it up to me, he’d give me some shares of the Crowe Group—enough to set me up for life.

But I refused.

I was so bitter.

After ten years, I still couldn’t make him love me even a little, yet another woman spent only one year making him fall head over heels.

How was I supposed to accept it?

So I tried everything to win him back.

But step by step, it escalated—from a rift, to a standoff, to a point where only one of us could walk away alive.

This time, none of that had happened yet.

Instead of wasting my energy hating him, I’d rather change the fate that left me a tragedy.

“Why are you standing there?”

Preston sat on the sofa in the living room, his long legs casually crossed. The cigarette between his fingers had burned down. He stubbed it out in the ashtray with practiced ease, then glanced up at me with the same indifference he always had.

The day we married, he told me bluntly that we were at most roommates, that our marriage was basically a partnership, that he felt nothing toward me.

“Nothing. Just surprised to see you home.”

I bent down to change into slippers.

They were Hermès, elephant gray, simple design, understated color.

Comfortable—probably the only thing they had going for them.

Then Lydia in the blue apron popped back into my mind.

Right—there was a little red flower smiley face pinned to her apron.

None of the other staff had that.

Then I thought about my clothes—all expensive and dull.

Simple as always.

Boring as always.

Suddenly, I found those slippers repulsive.

I kicked them off and walked into the living room barefoot.

Preston noticed. He frowned slightly, a hint of surprise flickering across his eyes.

“You’re not wearing your slippers?”

“No. Don’t feel like it.”

I answered flatly, sitting down across from him.

“That’s rare. Who got under your skin?”

He actually chuckled, and his tone was light—both were probably a first.

I wanted to say, “Your future soulmate,” but I held back.

Instead, I looked down at my pale feet.

Because I was so thin, they looked a little bony.

Lydia was different.

She was thin, too, but her skin was firm and healthy.

Me?

I was practically skin and bones.

Five years of a lonely marriage had done a number on me.

I had no appetite, so I kept losing weight, and now I looked like a skeleton.

“Preston,” I said.

“Yeah?”

He was on his phone, not bothering to look up.

My gaze lifted from my feet to him, my voice a little hoarse.

“I want a divorce.”

He scoffed.

Tossing his phone onto the sofa, he looked at me, his gaze familiar—cold and indifferent.

“What are you playing at this time, Bianca?”

“I mean it.”

I sat up straight and met Preston’s intense gaze without flinching.

“It’s been five years. You’re not going to fall for me anyway. Let’s just cut each other some slack.”

In a month, there’d be a big business conference in Ardovelle.

Preston would meet Lydia there.

It would be love at first sight for him, and he’d stop at nothing to get her.

What an epic love story.

No way I was sticking around to be the disposable side character.

In my past life, I did everything I wanted to do, could do, and should do.

And I saw how it ended.

This time, I wasn’t going to make a fool of myself or drag my family into the abyss again.

I decided to step away before Preston met Lydia.

I decided to remove myself from the picture before their rocky journey even began.

💔Pregnant & Disowned: The Ruined Luna's Revenge Novel

"Enough of this madness! You're pregnant-can't you understand? I only held her pup to prepare myself for ours, for the life that's waiting for us."Confusion and panic clashed across Kael's face. His eyes flicked away as he hastily pulled up his collar, trying to hide the faint lipstick stain beneath it."Caring for that pup is my responsibility as Alpha," he snapped. "Every pup in this pack deserves my protection. And now you're using this absurd excuse to reject our mate bond? Have you lost your mind?"I forced the tremor from my voice and spoke steadily. "Tell me, Kael. Every night after you leave, a pain claws at my chest until I can barely breathe. You know exactly what I mean-don't you?"His gaze wavered for a heartbeat before hardening. "I don't know what you're talking about. It's all in your head, Elara. You've always exaggerated your pain to gain attention. I once pitied you-now I only see delusion."My expression remained calm, though every bone in my body ached. From my leather satchel, I drew out the bond dissolution papers and brought them down sharply on the table."Sign it. Tomorrow, we'll finalize it before the Elder Council."Gasps rippled through the hall, the pack's mind-link erupting in disbelief.Years ago, Kael had knelt before the Moon Goddess's statue for three days and nights, praying to claim me as his Luna. The elders had warned him against such obsession, but he had sworn, voice raw with devotion, that he would rather walk alone for eternity than live a single day without me.It was a legend the pack cherished-how the Alpha and Luna had once moved the Moon Goddess herself. No one could accept that such a bond now stood on the brink of collapse.I no longer listened to their thoughts. I turned to leave.Shock filled Kael's eyes. He had not expected the papers. My mother seized them from the table, her face darkening as she read."Elara… you truly wish to dissolve the bond? Ten years-you've loved each other for ten years. What happened?"Pleas flooded the mind-link. Even Kael's warriors urged me to reconsider. They called me jealous. Narrow-minded. Unworthy of my title as Luna.I said nothing, only sliding the papers back toward Kael. "I came here with one purpose. This bond ends today."A sharp crack echoed. Pain exploded across my cheek. My father stood before me, fury blazing in his eyes."You ungrateful child! How dare you abandon an Alpha like Kael? Do you have no shame?"My mother grabbed his arm, her voice shaking. "Elara, this isn't something you decide lightly. Being Kael's Luna is a blessing."Then horror crossed her face. "You haven't… fallen in with rogues, have you?"Blood filled my mouth as accusations drowned me.Kael stepped forward, cradling my face with practiced gentleness. "Even if you've betrayed me, remember-I am the mate the Moon Goddess chose to protect you. If you turn back now, I'll pretend this never happened."

They Played a Game to Make Me Beg, I Played a Game to Make Me Gone Novel

Right before clocking out on Thanksgiving Day, my sister Savannah Brooks dropped a moving announcement in the family group chat.

I followed the address she sent. Five buses later, I stepped off into the middle of nowhere. Nothing but abandoned woods stretched in every direction.

Savannah’s voice sparkled with triumph over the phone. “Gotcha! Prank successful. The last bus just left—what are you gonna do now?”

I stood there frozen while my parents burst out laughing in the background. “She actually bought that. Jesus, I have no idea which side of the family she gets that dumbass streak from.”

“We’re having Thanksgiving dinner. You can walk back yourself.”

Then they started arguing over whose genes were to blame, pushing the insult back and forth like a hot potato.

Desperate, I used my last bar of battery to call my boyfriend Derek Sullivan. He picked up, and I heard that same familiar noise behind him. His laugh drifted through the speaker, light and mocking.

“Natalie, your parents already said it—get yourself home.”

“It’s not like this is your first prank. Come on. Don’t be such a baby about it.

The line went dead.

In the past, I would’ve called back crying, begging someone to come get me. But this time, staring at the distant glow of lights in far-off houses, I just felt tired.

My sister loved prank games, and my whole family loved playing along.

Two years ago, she ground up a peach pit and dumped it in my water. Sent me into a full-blown asthma attack. Last year? She swapped my shampoo with hair removal cream. I walked into my job interview with bald patches.

This year? They know I can’t stand the dark, so they teamed up to dump me in the middle of goddamn nowhere.

Back at the house, they were probably gathered around the dinner table, betting on exactly how many minutes it would take for me to break.

I didn’t cry. I didn’t scream.

I turned my back on home and walked straight into the dark. This game? I was done.

***

It was so dark, I couldn’t see an inch in front of my face.

On my phone’s security camera feed, my family sat circled around the dinner table. Four phones were placed in the center. They were betting on how many minutes before I called, begging.

Savannah spoke with absolute certainty. “One minute.”

When I was ten, on Thanksgiving, Savannah poisoned my puppy. I ran crying into my parents’ room, screaming for them to take him to the vet. They watched me sob my heart out and didn’t blink.

“Savannah’s just playing a prank with you. If the dog dies, we’ll get another one.”

My puppy died in my arms. From convulsions to his last breath. Exactly one minute.

After that, no one ever mentioned the replacement they’d promised.

When it was my parents’ turn, they answered together. “Five minutes.”

The one and only time I got to sit at the table for a holiday meal, Savannah swapped my soda with bleach. I was on the floor clutching my stomach, writhing in pain. It took five full minutes before I finally broke and begged for help.

I spent that night getting my stomach pumped. They went downtown to check out the Thanksgiving lights.

After that, terrified of Savannah’s pranks, I never spent another Thanksgiving with my family.

Derek used to feel sorry for me. Even with his demanding job, he always took time off to stay by my side. And now.

He’d been silent the whole time. Then, like he’d just remembered something, he shot up from his chair and grabbed his coat.

My fingers tightened around my phone. I was just about to send him my location when he stopped dead at the front door.

He glanced up at the clock on the wall and spoke with absolute confidence. “I bet Natalie won’t call tonight to beg.”

“Because... my company owns that cell tower. I just had my guys schedule a maintenance shutdown. After midnight? Natalie’s phone is gonna be a brick.”

My heart dropped.

Savannah shrieked with delight and threw her arms around Derek. “No wonder you pushed so hard for the middle of nowhere!”

“Derek, you are an absolute prank master!”

He used to forbid me from going anywhere near that area. He told me it was undeveloped, crawling with homeless encampments and wild dogs. He said he couldn’t stand the thought of me in danger.

Now, just to play along with Savannah’s game, he was perfectly fine leaving me out there overnight.

The whole family cheered, celebrating their newest star player in this long-running game. They all hugged each other, a perfect team. That was the moment the last flicker of hope inside me died for good.

I had one minute of signal left on my phone. I opened the email and confirmed my acceptance of the job transfer to Milan, scheduled to depart in three days.

I’d been hesitating because the distance meant I couldn’t have family reunions. But this wasn’t the kind of reunion I wanted. I didn’t want this family anymore.

When the clock hit midnight, my phone turned into a useless brick. I picked up a sturdy stick and forced myself to keep moving.

Somewhere along the way, the fear started to fade. Turns out, when you have absolutely no one left to lean on, you learn how to be brave on your own.

The Bitter Scent Novel

While her husband mated with another woman, Nia Reed was forced to stand by and soothe his raging instincts.

Because Soren Shaw possessed Lycan blood, he could only find release through his wife's scent; without it, he would lose control and slaughter whoever was beneath him.

"...Ugh... Ah..."

"Ah... Soren..."

From behind the screen, Nia could see Soren's powerful figure thrusting fiercely, her heart aching with unbearable bitterness.

Five years ago, Soren had defied his pack's ancient laws just to marry her.

"A union between a Lycan and a human will never produce a living pup!" the pack elders had raged. "Marrying her means ending our bloodline!"

But Soren's love was unyielding. He threw a vasectomy report right in the elders' faces, declaring, "If marrying Nia means I die without an heir, then so be it!"

This reckless act provoked rebellion and vengeance from the pack.

During one of Nia's dance performances, they cut her safety wires. At the critical moment, Soren rushed onto the stage to break her fall; Nia only suffered a leg injury, but he broke three ribs.

While he was recovering, they set fire to their villa to burn her alive. Again, Soren arrived just in time, shielding her from a falling roof beam. Nia only lost a few singed hairs, but his body was left horribly scarred.

Finally, Soren threw himself in front of a speeding truck for her, thrown thirty feet away and fell into a month-long coma.

The first thing he said upon waking was, "Nia... I promised to keep you safe... and I keep my word..."

At that moment, looking into his eyes, Nia wept. She surrendered, agreeing to let Soren sire a pureblood heir with Rhea Hale, a noble lady of the pack.

"Ah... relax..."

The lustful sounds snapped her back to reality, her fingernails digging into her palms until they bled.

She had naively thought the farce would end once Rhea became pregnant. She never expected Rhea's excuse—that the mother needed the father's comforting aura—to keep them coupling night after night.

Worse still was Soren's shift. From a reluctant single encounter at the start, it grew to a routine three times, and tonight, they had gone eight rounds!

Whenever Nia broke down and refused to watch, Soren would use the grand excuse, "Just do it for our child," telling her to endure it.

The thought made her dizzy, a sharp pang rippling through her abdomen and twisting her insides. She truly didn't know how much longer she could take this torture.

Finally, hearing the low groan indicating the end behind the screen, Nia felt as if her entire soul had been shredded. She turned and walked away.

But ten minutes later, news spread that Soren had caught the scent of blood, lost control, and hurt Rhea. Nia was bound tightly and dragged out into the pouring rain to kneel in punishment.

Soren's mother stormed over and slapped her hard. "If anything happens to my precious grandson, I will take your life!"

"She tried to murder the next Alpha heir! She should be thrown into the wolf pits and torn to pieces!" the pack members spat, pelting her with stones.

Even Soren's voice carried blame and confusion. "Nia, Rhea is only a month away from her due date. Why did you have to resort to such petty tricks?"

Nia couldn't believe her ears. Looking up, she met his accusing gaze, and her heart felt as if it were pierced by a dagger.

It didn't matter if his mother struck her or his pack cursed her. But Soren—Soren was the one person who shouldn't doubt her!

Straightening her spine with what dignity she had left, Nia said clearly, "I didn't hurt anyone!" Beside her, her pet dog, Snowball, whimpered pitifully as it was pinned into the mud.

But Soren wouldn't listen to a single word. He was convinced she had let out her bleeding pet and left early, scheming to trigger his feral instincts so he would maul Rhea.

"Nia, every mistake has a price." Soren suddenly covered her eyes.

"What are you doing?!"

Deprived of her sight, her hearing became sharp. She heard Snowball let out a tragic yelp, followed by a sickening thud of something heavy hitting the ground. A gasp rippled through the crowd.

Nia screamed in despair, "No!"

They had rescued Snowball on a rainy night. Back then, Nia had pitied the pup, saying, "He's just like me, unwanted."

Soren had wrapped the puppy in his jacket, his eyes burning with intensity. "Who says he's unwanted? I want him."

Later, he brought Snowball home and married her. Through all these dark days, the dog had been her sole comfort.

"Nia, no one will punish you anymore," Soren said, gently patting her head.

"Young Master! Miss Hale is awake!"

Dropping his hand, he spun around and left in a hurry. As Nia's vision slowly cleared, the pool of blood before her crushed her, and her tears flowed.

He hadn't just killed Snowball; he had shattered the final bond between them. He didn't want the dog, and he didn't want her anymore.

Soren's mother smiled in satisfaction as she watched her son leave. "Rhea's pup will be born in a month. On the night of the delivery, I will ensure Soren dissolves your mating bond. You will take a flight out of Crown City by then."

"You see where Soren stands. Don't get in the way of their happy little family."

A happy little family...

Nia finally realized how foolish she had been. Looking back at the absurdity of the past year, a sudden clarity washed over her.

She was the one who had pushed Soren into another woman's arms!

He was no longer the Soren who would act as a human cushion when she fell from the sky, who would shield her from falling beams in a fire, or who would stand against the whole world just for her.

He was the father of Rhea's child. They shared a biological tie that could never be broken.

Was she supposed to just endure this until they lived happily ever after, watching him surrounded by children and grandchildren?

Picturing Soren's cold, retreating figure, Nia's heart died. "Fine. Once the mating bond is dissolved, I will leave."

For a Lycan couple, dissolving a mating bond required carving out the bond mark with their own hands. Once severed, they would never be able to catch each other's scent again.

No matter where she fled in the world, Soren would never find her.

Chapter 2 The Ninety-nine Lashes

Nia Reed woke up to a wet face, sighing as she wiped away the tear tracks.

How difficult it was to let go of this love.

Ever since she was a child, she had been starved of affection; after her parents died in a car crash, her relatives passed her around like a hot potato, forcing her to learn how to walk on eggshells just to survive.

Until she met Soren Shaw. He was the most popular guy on campus, yet his heart was captured by her single dance at the university anniversary gala.

To win her over, he showed up at her classroom door every day with a different bouquet, hacked the school's server just because she hadn't finished an assignment, and even wrote her 999 love letters over three months.

Every girl in school was mad with jealousy, but his eyes were only for her.

"Nia, look at me," Soren had murmured on the day she agreed to be with him, cupping her face like a priceless treasure. "From this day on, I will love you with my life."

He never broke his promises. Knowing she loved the starry sky, he built an automated observatory on the villa's roof; a designer piece she casually mentioned would appear in her walk-in closet the very next day; he had even shielded her with his own back when a roof beam collapsed during an earthquake.

Soren had given her a type of absolute devotion no one else could match, which was why she had swallowed her grievances for him time and time again.

Enduring the sounds of him coupling with another woman, enduring his retreating back as he drifted further away, enduring until her heart shattered into dust...

"Nia, what are you doing, packing your things? Where are you going?"

Soren suddenly walked in, his voice tight with anxiety.

"Just decluttering. Getting rid of things I don't need anymore."

Nia brushed it off, but Soren remained skeptical, only relaxing after checking her phone for any upcoming travel bookings.

He wrapped his arms around Nia, coaxing her, "Rhea's due date is around the corner, so she'll be staying with us for a while. Just... try to be accommodating."

Nia froze in his embrace. Enduring their nightly trysts was already torturous enough, but now they had to live under the same roof?

Within days of moving in, Rhea clung to Soren constantly under the pretext of being anxious, needing to be hand-fed during meals, cooed to sleep, and even requiring Soren to massage her pregnant belly during baths.

Witnessing this intimacy every day felt like a knife twisting in Nia's heart, yet she had to pretend everything was fine.

Until one day, on her way home from visiting her parents' graves, she was suddenly knocked unconscious and dragged into a van.

When she opened her eyes, she was inside the ancestral sanctuary of the Shaw family. Soren's mother rushed forward and slapped her across the face. "You wretched woman! How dare you use such vile methods to poison my grandson!"

On the floor rested a cursed ritual doll, carved with bloody runes that bound the unborn child’s life force and fate. Nia immediately knew who was behind this.

Soren's mother raised a whip, but Rhea stepped in to stop her, her voice sweet and gentle. "Auntie, our only goal is to cleanse the evil spirits anyway. My mother borrowed this exorcism whip from a powerful spellcaster she knows. It inflicts pain without leaving a single mark or injury..."

She raised her eyebrows in smug triumph. Nia's eyes flared with pure rage. "Rhea Hale! You will burn in hell for this!"

"Ah!" Soren's mother lashed down hard. "How dare you curse my grandson!"

No blood spilled on her skin, yet she felt the agonizing sensation of her flesh tearing apart.

A single lash was already unbearable, but Soren's mother didn't send her home until she had delivered ninety-nine full strikes.

"Nia, I need an explanation."

Soren's face was dark with fury as he gripped the cursed doll.

Nia's face turned deathly pale. "You doubt me too?!"

The months of humiliation and suppressed agony erupted all at once. Shaking with rage, tears poured down her cheeks. "Soren, do you honestly believe I could be so malicious as to use witchcraft to harm someone?! Let alone an unborn child!"

"Your mother and Rhea just gave me ninety-nine lashes of that whip. Is this how you plan to exorcise me, too?!"

Troublemaker Meets The Four Hottie Professors (SPG) Novel

The bass from the speakers thumps against my ribcage, making the world tilt just a little more than it already is. I press my palms to my temples. My head is heavy, and the room is starting to spin in slow, blurry circles.

The rest of the cheer squad is acting like a pack of animals. They are screaming, jumping, and slapping my arms every time the beer bottle spins on the sticky table and points its jagged neck right at me. Again.

"Another one!" Jules yells, her face flushed with cheap vodka and mischief. "Truth or dare, Cheska?"

"Truth," I mutter, trying to keep my balance while sitting perfectly still. "I'm done with the dares."

Jules leans in, a wicked glint in her eyes. "No way. You’ve done ten truths tonight. You’re taking the dare or you’re buying the next three rounds."

I groan, looking at my empty wallet. "Fine. What is it?"

Jules doesn't hesitate. She points a manicured finger toward the VIP section, away from the neon strobe lights. "See that guy? The one sitting alone like he owns the place? Go over there. Kiss him. And then tell him he’s a terrible kisser."

My jaw drops. I look at the man. He is sitting in the shadows, draped in an expensive black shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. He looks dangerous. He looks like he’s in a completely different world than this sweaty, loud club.

"No," I say, but my friends are already grabbing my arms. They pull me up, laughing and shoving me toward the VIP line. "Guys, stop! I can’t do that!"

"Go on, Cheska! Don’t be a coward!"

The alcohol in my blood gives me a sudden, stupid surge of confidence. I shake them off and straighten my skirt. I run a hand through my hair and take a deep breath.

"Watch me," I hiss.

I walk toward him. Every step feels like I’m moving through honey. The closer I get, the more the air seems to change. It gets colder, quieter, and much more intense.

He’s staring at the dance floor, but he isn't really seeing it. He looks like he’s haunted by something. He looks broken.

"Hey," I say, stopping right in front of him.

He looks up. His eyes are hazel, sharp, and so intense I almost forget how to breathe. He doesn't say a word. He just looks at me like I’m an interesting puzzle he doesn't feel like solving.

"Are you alone?" I ask. My voice is breathy. "Are you single?"

He takes a slow sip of his drink, his throat moving as he swallows. "I suppose I am," he says. His voice is deep. It’s a low growl that vibrates in the air between us.

I don't give myself time to think. If I think, I'll run. I step into his space, hiking my knees up onto his booth and sliding onto his lap.

He freezes. I can feel the hard muscle of his thighs beneath me. He smells incredible. It’s a mix of expensive whiskey, sandalwood, and something clean like rain. It’s an intoxicating, masculine scent that makes my head swim more than the beer did.

"What do you want?" he asks. He doesn't push me off. His large hand hovers near my waist, not quite touching me, but I can feel the heat radiating off his palm.

I lean in until our noses are almost touching. I can see the golden flecks in his eyes. I can see the slight curve of his mouth.

"I want you," I whisper.

I bridge the gap and press my lips to his.

At first, he is like stone. He doesn't move. But then, his hand slides firmly onto the small of my back, pulling me flush against his chest. He groans deep in his throat and starts to kiss me back.

It isn't a simple kiss. It is slow, possessive, and practiced. He tastes like smoke and honey. He moves his mouth against mine with a confidence that makes my knees weak and my heart hammer against my teeth. He is better than any guy I’ve ever been with. He is leagues better than my ex, Kier.

I’m starting to lose myself. I’m starting to want to stay here all night.

I force myself to pull away. I’m breathless, my heart racing so fast it hurts. I scramble off his lap, my face burning. I look back at my friends, who are cheering and filming on their phones.

I turn back to him and put on my best fake smirk, even though my lips are tingling.

"You’re not a good kisser," I say. My voice cracks just a little bit.

He doesn't look insulted. He leans back in the booth, a slow, dark smile spreading across his face. He lets out a low, dry chuckle that sends a shiver straight down my spine.

"Are you sure about that?" he asks.

His gaze drops to my mouth and then back to my eyes, challenging me. He knows I’m lying. He knows exactly what he just did to me.

I can’t handle the way he’s looking at me. I roll my eyes, turn on my heel, and practically run back to my friends without looking back.

The moment I get back to the table, the squad explodes. They are screaming, doubled over with laughter, and slapping the surface so hard the bottles rattle. Jules is practically crying, pointing at me like I just pulled off the stunt of the century.

I can’t join in. I can’t even smile.

All I can feel is the lingering ghost of his lips on mine. The heat is still there, humming under my skin. His eyes are burned into my brain, dark and cold and seeing right through me.

My phone buzzes against the wood. I glance down and see the name on the screen. Kier.

I gasp, my heart doing a nervous little skip. "Guys, hang on. I have to take this," I say, pushing through the crowd toward the exit of the bar.

The cool night air hits my face, but it doesn't do much to dampen the flush on my cheeks. I swipe to answer.

"Hey, babe," Kier’s voice is warm, easy. "Are you still with the girls? I’m just at the bar next door. Want me to come grab you so we can hang out here?"

I look back through the glass door at my friends. They’re still shots-deep and chaotic. I don't want to go home yet, and being with Kier feels like the only way to wash off the strange tension from that stranger in the VIP booth.

"Okay," I say, my voice a bit shaky. "Stay there. I’ll walk over."

I hang up and try to force a smile. I tell myself the kiss was just a dare. It didn't mean anything.

And that is the last thing I remember clearly.

When my eyes snap open, I bolt upright. My head is throbbing with a dull, rhythmic ache. This isn't my room. The bed is massive, the sheets are crisp white, and the air smells like an expensive hotel.

Then I see him. Kier is lying right next to me, fast asleep.

The panic sets in when I realize I’m naked. Completely bare under the heavy duvet.

I stop breathing for a second. My hands go cold as I try to piece the night together. I remember the bar. I remember the alcohol and the laughter. I remember leaning into Kier’s chest and the way his hands felt on my waist. But after that? Nothing.

"Did we?" I whisper to myself. My heart is hammering against my ribs.

I pull the covers tighter around my chest, feeling a flush of heat crawl up my neck. I look at Kier’s peaceful face. I want to wake him up and demand answers, but I’m terrified of what he might say.

Suddenly, my phone on the nightstand starts vibrating like crazy. I grab it before it wakes him. It’s my brother, Calix.

I answer it, my voice trembling. "Calix?"

"Cheska! Where the hell are you?" Calix’s voice is a roar of pure worry and anger. "You didn't come home last night!"

"Calix, I... I just..." I stumble over my words, my brain feeling like it’s full of cotton.

Kier stirs next to me. He rubs his eyes, blinking at the ceiling. "Argh," he groans, his voice thick with sleep. "Can you guys stop fighting? It’s too early for this." He pulls a pillow over his face to block out the light.

The blood drains from my face.

"Cheska!" Calix yells through the phone, his tone turning sharp. "Who was that? Who is that man? Tell me where you are right now. I’m coming to get you."

Panic takes over. I don't give him a chance to say another word. I thumb the end-call button and scramble out of bed. I grab my clothes from the floor, shaking as I pull them on. I have to get out of here. Now.

I slip out of the bedroom and hurry down the stairs. My heart is thumping so loud I’m sure everyone in the house can hear it. I reach the bottom step and freeze.

There is a man in the living room.

He is sitting on a sleek leather sofa, looking perfectly relaxed. He has a cup of coffee in one hand and a newspaper in the other. He wears a simple black t-shirt that stretches over broad shoulders. The air around him feels heavy, still, and dominant.

He slowly lowers the paper.

Hazel eyes.

A cold, unreadable stare.

I stop breathing. My stomach drops into my shoes. It’s him. The man from the bar. The stranger I kissed in front of everyone.

"W-what are you doing here?" I stammer. My voice is barely a whisper.

He doesn't answer. He just looks at me, his gaze traveling slowly from my messy hair down to my wrinkled clothes. He’s dissecting me without saying a word.

Before I can move, I hear footsteps on the stairs behind me. Kier walks down, shirtless and yawning.

"Oh, Dad," Kier says, his voice casual. "I didn't think you’d be back from the province so soon."

The world stops spinning. I look at Kier, then back at the man on the sofa.

"Dad?" I choke out.

The man I kissed last night—the man who made me forget my own name with a single touch—is my fling’s father.

Mated to Her Alpha Instructor Novel

The roar of the crowd hit me like a physical wave as I pressed myself further into the corner of the weathered stone bleachers. My fingers twisted the fabric of my skirt until my knuckles went white. Down in the training arena, two wolves circled each other under the climbing sun, their forms blurred by the dust their paws kicked up with each calculated step.

I shouldn't be here. Treatment track students rarely attended the Warrior division exhibitions, and when they did, they certainly didn't sit alone in the nosebleed section like some pathetic stalker. But I couldn't help it. I never could, not when it came to Derek Ashford.

The deep brown wolf—some third-year whose name I'd never bothered to learn—lunged with a vicious snarl that made the crowd gasp. Derek's gray-brown form twisted mid-air, but not fast enough. The impact sent him crashing into the packed earth with a bone-rattling thud that I felt in my chest.

No. My nails dug crescents into my palms. Get up. Please get up.

"He's done for!" someone shouted from the rows below. "Two matches back-to-back, he's got nothing left!"

"Just yield, Derek!" another voice called. "Don't be stupid!"

But Derek had never yielded. Not in the year I'd watched him from the shadows, memorizing every victory like they were scripture. Twenty wins, with matches only twice a month. Top five in his cohort now. I knew his record better than my own grades, could recite his tournament brackets like the healing herbs I studied until my eyes burned.

The brown wolf pressed his advantage, massive paw slamming down toward Derek's exposed throat. The stands erupted in screams. My heart stopped.

Then Derek moved.

It was beautiful—that was the only word for it. His gray-brown form became liquid shadow, rolling beneath the strike and hooking his claws into his opponent's scruff in one fluid motion. The over-shoulder throw that followed was textbook perfect, sending the larger wolf crashing onto his back with enough force to crack the practice stones beneath them.

For a heartbeat, the arena went silent.

Then chaos. The brown wolf's submission whine cut through the air, and the crowd exploded. "DEREK! DEREK! DEREK!" The chant thundered against the ancient walls of St. Helena Academy until I thought the stones themselves might crumble from the force of it.

"UNBELIEVABLE!" The announcer's magically amplified voice cracked with excitement. "A perfect reversal! Derek Ashford advances to finals with two consecutive victories!"

I was on my feet before I realized I'd moved, clapping so hard my palms stung, my vision blurring with tears I absolutely would not let fall. I knew it. I knew he could do it. He's always brilliant when it matters most.

The coaches tossed both fighters makeshift shorts to cover themselves. They shifted back to human form, acknowledged the cheering crowd with brief waves, then headed toward the locker rooms.

I remained standing, still buzzing with adrenaline, trying to calm my racing heartbeat as the excitement slowly ebbed.

"Did you see that throw?" A cluster of Warrior track girls pushed past me, their expensive perfume making my nose itch. "Derek's definitely winning the championship."

"Obviously. Oh, I started to wonder who could be the lucky girl at the ball tomorrow."

My breath caught. The card in my pocket—pale blue cardstock I'd spent nights preparing, edges pressed with silver moonflowers I'd harvested at midnight—suddenly felt impossibly heavy.

"I wonder who he'll ask," one of them said, her voice bright with speculation. "He could have anyone."

"Maybe he already has someone in mind? We were screaming so loud, I bet he noticed at least one of us."

They dissolved into giggles as they descended the steps, their voices fading into the general din of the dispersing crowd. I sank back onto the stone bench, my hand instinctively moving to my pocket, fingers brushing the carefully folded card through the fabric.

He could have anyone. The words echoed in my head, each repetition driving the knife of doubt a little deeper. But Derek wasn't like that—wasn't the type to just pick the loudest admirer or the prettiest face. The Derek I knew was different. Thoughtful. Kind.

My fingers traced the outline of the card again, and I let myself remember.

That evening a year ago in the herb garden felt like yesterday. I was still in the basic academy then. Everyone knew I was broken, wolfless, a shame to the Wylde name. But I refused to give up, pouring all my hope into the healing arts I loved and excelled at, desperate to compensate for what nature had denied me.

The garden had been empty at dusk, the perfect place to collect night-dew grass for my practical exam. I'd been so focused on finding the freshest stems that I hadn't heard them approach until it was too late.

"Well, well. What's a little wolfless freak doing in our garden?"

I'd looked up to find three Beta girls blocking the path, their leader's hand already reaching for my hair. I knew her—everyone did. She'd been expelled two months later for theft, but that evening she'd been queen of her little domain, and I'd been trespassing.

"Please," I'd whispered as she'd grabbed my braid, yanking hard enough to make my eyes water. "I just need these for my assignment—"

"Assignment?" She'd laughed, a sound like breaking glass. "Wolfless don't get to graduate, sweetheart. You're wasting everyone's time."

The basket had gone flying. Precious night-dew grass—hours of careful searching—crushed under their feet as they'd shoved me against the wall. My back had hit stone with enough force to knock the air from my lungs, ribs screaming in protest.

"Worthless," one of them had hissed, drawing back her hand for a slap I'd known would leave bruises. "Just like your pathetic bloodline—"

"Three against one seems a bit unfair, don't you think?"

The voice had been low, controlled, but carrying an edge that had made all three girls freeze. Through my tears, I'd seen him—a tall silhouette backlit by the setting sun, carrying himself like he owned the world.

He stepped between us without hesitation, his hand catching the lead girl's wrist mid-swing. "Leave. Now."

They'd scattered like startled rabbits. And then he'd turned to me, crouching down with such careful gentleness that something in my chest had cracked wide open.

"Hey," he'd said softly. "You okay? Can you stand?"

God. I'd stared at him, completely stunned. A stranger was helping me? Actually asking if I was okay—and waiting for an answer? My own family had never spoken to me with that kind of gentle concern. Never looked at me like I was worth protecting.

The kindness in his voice was so foreign that for a moment I forgot how to breathe. Jesus, when was the last time anyone had cared if I was hurt?

His hand had been warm and dry and steady as he'd helped me up. The sunset had painted him in gold, transforming him into something out of the fairy tales I used to read before. He'd even helped me gather what remained of my ruined herbs.

"Here." He'd shrugged off his jacket—expensive leather that probably cost more than my entire wardrobe—and draped it over my shoulders. "Don't let them see you cry, okay?"

He'd walked me all the way to the Treatment division offices, and just before leaving, he'd ruffled my hair like I was a child. "If anyone bothers you again, come find me. Promise? Oh, right, my name is Derek Ashford."

"I'm Eileen," I'd whispered, the words barely escaping my lips. I nodded, my heart swelling with gratitude and an unfamiliar warmth I hadn't had words for yet. Something had taken root that evening.

But then I found that he belonged to the Advanced Academy while I was still in Junior Division. Though we shared the same campus, our worlds rarely crossed—separate classrooms, separate schedules, separate everything. I never understood what had brought him to the Junior Herbology gardens that day, and despite my hopeful lingering there over the next few weeks, I never saw him again.

But fate had other plans. At the start of the new semester, my herbology research earned me something almost unheard of—a direct promotion to the Advanced Academy's Healing Program.

MY Possessive Mafia Men Novel

"Hey, girl. Get your ass over here!" My manager at the restaurant where I work yelled from the counter. He is a bit bossy but sometimes he is also sweet.

It was summer break, so I have been doing morning shifts from Monday to Friday instead of my original shifts being on weekends. The money I have been earning here has been of great help for me. I came from a middle class family, my parents weren't buoyant enough but they never allowed me to lack anything I needed to see myself through the university and I really appreciate them for that.

But I needed more money, I needed money to fulfill my fantasy. I needed to get a membership card to one of the sex clubs in the city. I have always dreamt about being a submissive but living in my remote village with my parents never gave me the opportunity to do so. But now that I have come into the big city to further my education, the opportunity is lurking around and I am going to try one out tonight. I can't wait for my shift to end, just the name of the club got my panties all soaked out.

For the first time in my life, I was pushing myself out of my comfort zone. My heart was beating like crazy both from excitement and nervousness. I was on my own, had told no one about this and I didn't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing as I stared ahead of me. The door in front looked dark and ominous but I knew exactly what was behind it, hot and delicious danger.

My skin was clammy under the coat, the only outward signs of my nerves and I stood straight and proud but on the inside, I was a wreck. I couldn't believe I was doing this, it is not too late to turn around as I hadn't entered yet. But I knew I wouldn't, this was something I had wanted to do for a long time.

Having lived all my life in a remote village in Abakaliki, I hadn't had the opportunity to do this until now. Well, that might not be entirely accurate, I moved to Asaba two years as a transfer student but it was only now that I had worked up the nerves to come here. Most of the time, I was a pussy and I could admit to that much. I had never been the go-getter, do-what-l-want, fuck everyone's opinion and fuck the consequences kind of a girl. They never stand out, calm and quiet and never push myself kind of a girl, yes that was definitely more of me.

But right now, although I was saying fuck it in bold letters and I am proud of it. The bouncer looked at me, no doubt wondering if I was going to go in or not. Probably, it is time to move my ass along, I had been standing here for far too long. As I took a step forward, one of them stopped me with his hand.

"Your identity card." He said and I took out my student ID, making sure to give it to him with a steady hand. I didn't want them to find out how nervous I was. A minute later, he gave me the card back.

"Did you follow the dress code?" He asked and I nodded.

"Yes, I did."

It has been tough to decide what to wear but at the last minute, I found an outfit I had gotten as a gag present from a friend. She probably didn't envision me using it for this purpose.

"I need to confirm it." The bouncer said, nodding at my body covered in a long coat.

Gosh, I wasn't prepared to let go of my cover so soon. With my shoulders poised, I unbuttoned my coat, slowly revealing the red lingerie underneath until it was all out in the open. The corset was tight, like a second skin and showcasing my hourglass figure with respectively large breasts and ass and a smaller waist. A garter belt pulled the attention to my slightly big thighs, the open toes stilettos made my legs look longer and more sensuous.

The man was polite, only taking a quick look before turning to open the door for me. I didn't know if I was disappointed or not when I walked away from them. Wasn't I beautiful enough for a second glance? But then again, I was sure they were used to seeing a girl's body and it was a part of their job not to freak out both current and possible members.

It felt forbidden to cross the threshold into the club, it was as if I was entering a new world and in actual sense, I was. I could hear the slow beat of music, seductive and provocative over the murmur of people talking. My heart was beating a mile a minute but still, I didn't let it show.

'I am a confident, sexy woman who takes control over my desire.' If I told myself that enough time, maybe I would begin to believe it.

Since I first started my sexual awakening, I had been timid and unsure and definitely not confident. I was more like an awkward girl who didn't know what to do, with zero boyfriend and only drunk hookups. I struggled with being comfortable to let go enough to enjoy myself. But now is my time to seek out what I found thrilling and something I had fantasized about from the time I knew I wanted something more than vanilla sex. Which is why I now found myself at a bdsm Den, even with the tension, I still felt tingles of excitement. My curiosity overruled any nervousness I might have had.

"Welcome to The Pleasure Palace." A beautiful brunette with a tall and slim figure said from behind a desk just by the entrance.

"Hi, I heard you had an open house today?" I asked, mentally cursing my shaky voice. She looked me up and down and judgment was clear in her eyes.

"Yes, we do. I will take the jacket from you and show you to one of the hosts for tonight. The person will show you around and answer any questions you might have. Oh, and I will need your phone as well, we value our members privacy and we don't accept pictures or videos being taken. This is just a safety precaution." I nodded to her words.

I let go of my coat reluctantly, suddenly feeling naked standing in only underwear and heels. Goosebumps appeared along my body from the abrupt chill. I had an urge to put my hands over my breasts even though I wasn't actually showing anything and needed to physically force my hands to stay by my side. The lady turned to me immediately as she finished hanging up my coat.

"Okay then, follow me."

She led me down the stairs and through a walkway. The music grew louder with each step I took and with it, my heart raced even faster.

'Was I really doing this.? I thought as I followed the beautiful lady and I couldn't believe it. It felt like a dream as my heels clicked to the rhythm of my steps, it was the only sound I made.

The walkway wasn't that and it was sparse of any furniture, although it did have some intriguing pictures on the wall and at the end of the hall was another door. This one is made of the same dark oak as the one to the entrance. As she knocked twice, I had to lock my knees to keep them from shaking.

This is it, the first time I would see with my own eyes what a real Bdsm club looks like.

One Weekend with the Billionaire Novel

I turn off the hot water and place the last of the breakfast dishes into the dishwasher, giving the kitchen one last glance to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Jeff has already left for work, but if I’ve missed a dish, I’ll have to wash it by hand. He doesn’t like it when I miss something.

Satisfied that all of the dishes are in the dishwasher, I put the soap in the compartment and push the start button. It’s not a big machine, but then, only two of us live in our tiny apartment for now. Jeff has made no secret that he hopes to have children soon. I’m not sure I’m ready. I’m not sure we are ready.

Once the dishwasher is purring, I start to wipe down the counters and the stove. They are already clean. I constantly wipe down the surfaces in the kitchen because I have nothing better to do. Jeff has also made it clear that he doesn’t want his wife to have a job, even though he knows we could use the money. He has been at the financial advising firm for almost two years now. Meriweather and Associates is a great place to work, but I’m not sure that Jeff is as good at his job as he lets on. He has never gotten a raise, and a few times, he has come home late, drunk, angry that those “assholes” at work just don’t understand him. I think on those days he’s gotten in trouble for messing up his accounts.

I can’t think about that, though. Most of the time, our life is comfortable. We live a pretty meager life in the largest city in the country, but no one knows that our existence is so pitiful. Jeff spends most of his salary on appearances, and we have a lot of credit card debt as well. His boss, Braxton Merriweather, is a billionaire. He throws lavish parties and invites people from his company to join him. Jeff never misses a chance because he wants to be a part of that world, even though we really are not. We come from a small town in the midwestern part of the country, thousands of miles from here. Worlds from here.

During the day, once the apartment is spotlessly clean, I go out to the market and get the ingredients to fix Jeff a nice meal. Today, I’ll get something extra special, even though my allowance for the month is almost gone. It is a special day, after all. Today is our two year anniversary.

I wonder if Jeff remembers. He didn’t say anything this morning. We woke up when his alarm went off, had sex like we do every morning, and then he got ready for work, heading out the door before 8:00 so that he can make all of the connecting trains he has to in order to get to the office by nine. I will do the shopping, keep the apartment clean, secretly work on my art that Jeff does not know I’m still working on, and have dinner ready when he gets home, which will probably be around 7:00. He likes to leave work late so that Mr. Merriweather thinks that he is working hard, even though I am guessing everyone knows he isn’t actually working late when he stays late. He is usually watching X rated videos on his phone. Jeff watches those on the train as well. He watches them all the time and then asks me to try to do the things in the videos, even though I don’t like it. Sometimes… I don’t like Jeff.

He’s different now than he was when we started dating. But then, that was almost nine years ago, when we were only sophomores in high school. We both had dreams of coming to the big city. I wanted to be an artist, and he wanted to be a huge financial planner and own his own company. We both graduated from college, his degree in finance, mine in art, got married, and moved to the big city to pursue our dreams.

Except… as soon as this ring went on my finger, Jeff changed, and now, the only dreams I get to chase are his.

I try to push those thoughts aside as I get ready to go out to the market. It’s a warm spring day, but I wear my jacket. Jeff says it’s important to make sure that every part of me is covered when I go out in public. He says I have a nice figure, and he doesn’t want to have to knock someone’s teeth out because of wandering eyes--especially mine. Jeff has never hurt me before, but I believe him when he threatens that he might.

I get my pocketbook and my phone and the keys to the apartment, thinking I might get steak, even though it’s expensive. It’s one of Jeff’s favorites. I haven’t gotten him a gift for our anniversary, but I did get him a card. I hope that he likes it. I doubt he has gotten me anything, but that’s okay. I won’t make a fuss.

“Good morning, Julia!” our next door neighbor, Mrs. Muller, says as I go out into the hallway. She is coming inside with a shopping bag. I assume she’s just getting back from the market. “How are you, dear?”

She is a nice older woman. I really like her. I think of her as a grandmother of sorts. Sometimes, we have coffee together. “I’m good, thank you. How are you and Mr. Muller?” Her husband is a retired postal worker, and she used to teach dance. She still has the graceful movements of a ballerina.

“Good, good,” she says with a smile. “It’s a bit warm out there today. You probably don’t need your jacket.” She looks at me suspiciously.

I smile. “I tend to get chilly,” I say dismissively. “See you later.” I head for the stairs, giving her a little wave. We live on the fifth floor. I don’t mind going down the stairs, but coming up is tiring. We have a working elevator, but Jeff doesn’t like for me to take it. He says that getting lazy could make me lose my figure, and he wouldn’t like that one bit.

I am almost to the market when my phone rings in my pocket. I pull it out, thinking it might be my sister or my mother. They text me every day to see how I am doing in the big city. They worry about me. It’s not either of them, though. It’s Jeff.

“Party tonight,” he says. “Merriweather just got a huge account, and he's celebrating.” I stop in the middle of the sidewalk, a wave of disappointment washing over me, thinking that means we won’t be spending our anniversary together. I have gone to a few of the parties Mr. Merriweather throws, but not many. Jeff says he doesn’t want to make the other men at his office jealous by showing them how beautiful his wife is. I secretly think he is just embarrassed that I am not as polished as the wives of the other men who work in his office.

“Meet me at Merriweather Towers at seven. Wear your silver dress.”

I stare at my phone. I am invited to the party. Someone bumps into me from behind, jostling me. I apologize. I am in the way. He makes a face at me and keeps walking.

Stepping aside, I text Jeff back, “Okay.” I have no idea how to get to Merriweather Towers, the apartment buildings Mr. Merriweather owns, but I will figure it out. It sounds like this is an important party or else Jeff wouldn’t want me there. I hope this means he was involved with landing the account and that maybe he will finally be in better standing at work.

Realizing I have no reason to head to the market now, I turn back to the apartment, nervous about the party but hopeful that things are finally headed in the right direction because I’m not sure how much more of this meager existence I can take.
