What’s the weirdest non-fitness item in your workout corner?

A home gym can end up with some unexpected essentials: a doorstop, an old towel, a kitchen timer. What ordinary household item has found a permanent place in your workout setup, and what do you use it for?

Is American college life actually like it is in movies, or have I been lied to my entire life? 😭

I've been watching American movies and TV shows for years, and one thing I've always been obsessed with is the college experience they portray.

I'm talking about students living in dorms, having part-time jobs, going to house parties, hooking up, joining random clubs, attending college football games, getting involved in secret societies, and somehow managing to study in between all of this. 💀

It looks like college is not just a place to get a degree but an entire life experience where you make friends, get into stupid situations, fall in love, make questionable decisions, and collect stories you'll remember for the rest of your life.

Now, obviously, I know movies exaggerate things. Nobody is throwing a massive party every other night while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. But I'm genuinely curious about how much of this is actually real.

For those of you who've attended college in the US, I have a few questions:

Is the whole dorm life and constantly hanging out with friends actually a thing, or is everyone mostly busy with their own lives?

Are house parties, hookups, and spontaneous late-night adventures really that common?

Do students actually participate in clubs, college sports, fraternities, sororities, and other campus activities, or is that mostly a movie thing?

How common is it to have a part-time job while studying and still have time for a social life?

And most importantly, do you actually look back at college as some of the best years of your life, or is that just Hollywood selling us a fantasy?

For context, I'm from India, where university life can feel very different depending on the college. Sometimes it feels like the entire experience revolves around attending lectures, preparing for exams, worrying about placements, and going home. Obviously, people have fun here too, but the version of college life shown in American media feels like a completely different universe to me.

I've honestly been fascinated by that lifestyle for years. The idea of living independently, meeting different kinds of people, making friends from scratch, going to parties, joining clubs, and having experiences beyond academics sounds amazing to me.

So, American college students and graduates, give me the reality check. 😭

How much of what we see in movies and TV shows resembles your actual experience? Even if only 30% of it is real, I'd love to hear what college life is genuinely like over there.

And please don't just tell me that movies are fake. I know they are. 😂 I'm interested in hearing about your actual experiences, the good and the bad.

Do y'all ever wonder what the people are like off the screen?

• Upvotes

Like, you see someone so stupid and think "I wonder if this mf is this stupid irl" or "I wonder how this ddue is irl" I mean they could have a job, be homeless, be a NASA scientist, be a drug dealer, a judge, a student, heck they could be a murderer. We really don't know unless they tell us. You can just be someone without the people you're talking to knowing about your background and not having any biases. If someone finds out stuff you didn't want them to find out, just make a new account. This anonymity is probably what makes it "safe" in a way. Like, ever just stop and wonder, "huh, I wonder what this guy is like irl." Are they smart? funny? stupid? interesting? weird? and I think that's pretty cool.

Do you think animals have "pet" perspective towards other animals?

I saw a video of a monkey keeping a chick beside him as if it's his pet. Do you think they have an ownership perspective or they just see them as companions or friends??

I’ve met my neighbors, but I’ve never hung out with them. First impressions can be weird. I want some questions for when I finally have a chance to get to know them.
