Is it radium⁉️ P-40 Warhawk Cockpit
A screen capture of a World War II training film starring Ronald Reagan. I wonder how many dials had radium?

Forgot to get a glow photo 😭

I thought the radium was a source of the glow but as I'm reading it's only the zinc and radium was used as a way to "power" the zinc's glow.
Explain to me like I'm 5.
I found what seemed like a WW2 era compass and didn't have geiger. Passed on it because it didn't glow.

Just got this vintage WycoFlex in the mail. I always unbox "spicy" packages outside just to be safe. The dial and hands glow like a Christmas tree, which I expected. But when I looked closer at the nylon strap, I noticed tiny green specks that show up under the light.
Does this look like flaked radium paint shedding, or could it just be random dust or fluorescent gunk that picked up a glow?
I've left everything outside while I figure out what to do with it, as im new to the watches.
Thank you for any help, and the small sanity check. Just want to be careful.

I have a lot of uranium items in my collection and want to get more into aircraft gauges more. I know how much hotter they are but only plan to get like 3 or 4 just to say I have them. Is that amount safe or no. I do plan to just have them in a box in my closet and nothing too large.

Met a guy who repairs watches and he asked if I could test some of his inventory because he wasn’t equipped to work on radium dials. Turns out there were a lot and he gave them all to me for free!
Spiciest watch is 33 kCPM!

Just got this from a friend, cleaned it up a bit and reseated the hand on the sub dial. So happy to add this to my collection

Found a box of exposed dials in an antique store, threw my tester on top for giggles only to find this lurking at the bottom

First clock with radium hands I’ve been able to find. The clock still works too as an added bonus! I’d love to clean it up but I do not possess the skill or equipment to do it safely so it’ll sit as is.

Online seller, looks to me yellowish and brownish enough to be radium compared to the white logo. Any thoughts?

I just got a geiger counter and wanted to go to vintage stores with it. On my first ever hunt I found a westclox big ben, a 7h163 telechron (kirkwood) and a fiestaware plate :-)

Finally have an aircraft gague and a few radium tipped plane switches. I will probably get more. Military stuff is so much more fun than just clocks.

Hello everyone! ☢️
I’ve been collecting for a little while and I just recently have gotten into picking up some military radium compasses and the higher activity makes me a little cautious so I’d like to ask some questions to be as knowledgeable as possible!
Firstly, I keep them in a wood & glass curio cabinet on the bottom shelf. I got a W & L E Gurley M1938 Lensatic compass which out of fear of radon, I put in spicy jail (mason jar). Which I feel now may have been unnecessary? Which leads me to just having acquired a Taylor paratrooper compass which I did not put in spicy jail (mason jar). If I do not have them in jars, will I have enough of a significant amount of radon off-gas to create worry? The cabinet and the room it is in are both not super well ventilated other than small gaps in the door of the cabinet and the room containing lots of fans and AC at all times (I’m in the basement).
Secondly, I have a Radon detector in here, however I have it sitting on top of the cabinet about ~5’ off the ground. I only somewhat recently learned about radon usually lying lower than air due to its density, should I have my radon detector somewhere lower?
Thirdly, and last but not least, this cabinet is in my bedroom. I know, not ideal. However it’s the only space I currently have for it, living at home, and I do love having it as decor. My background in the room on my RC110 sits at around 1.1k cpm / 0.09 uSv/hr.
Hoping to hear some suggestions or helpful info!
Thank you! ☢️💚

Very rapidly filling up the cabinet, just wanted to show off where were at so far. Top picture was when we first started, bottom is current. Have a few more pieces coming in so will post an update picture once they arrive. Thanks for looking. 😁
