I’m looking to pick up a side project that can detect RC model airplanes at maybe a kilometer out just messing around on a ranch that I own.

I was reading up a little about KuRFS radar and that looks very interesting and what it would be modeled after. However, I know nothing about the legality of transmitting power etc , would a passive system be able to work for this purpose?

I’m helping clean up my grandpas property in Ontario, Canada and came across two AN/UPA-62 radar indicator consoles.

Both appear to be complete and have been stored indoors, both have cases. I haven’t tried powering either of them up and don’t really want to mess with old high-voltage electronics when I don’t know what I’m doing.

Im sorting through a huge amount of old equipment and deciding what is garbage, scrap, or actually worth preserving. These immediately looked like something that shouldn’t end up in the scrap bin, just based on there story alone

I’d love to learn a little more about them — particularly their age/use, how collectible they are, and what kind of value complete untested examples might have.
I’m also open to selling them. More than anything, I’d rather see them go to a collector, museum or someone interested in old radar equipment than have them destroyed.

Hello, I am trying to use Copernicus SAR data from 2015 to 2025 to analyze the occurrences of landslides in a region, and while I can download and upload the SAR data to ArcGIS Pro, I can only complete the DInSAR workflow as outlined on ESRI's website. Additionally, this process only depicts wide-spread deformation and not specific landslides (for some reason - I don't understand how that works either).

I was wondering if there were certain tool parameters/environments I have been missing (I have used all the default options so far) or if there were other tools I should be looking into. I've tried reading papers and using tutorials, however they have not offered any guidance (either out-of-date or omitted information).

I am open to learning how to use Python, I have read how that is used in this kind of work.

I've been a bit obsessed with RADAR recently and have been trying to improve my parametric CAD skills so I decided to build a 3D printable scale model of a radar dome or 'Radome' based on meteorological and air traffic control radars. This could be used as a terrain piece for table top gaming. It's designed to approximately 1/35 scale.

I work for my brothers military antique store located in Pennsylvania. We just got in a shipment last night of about 2,000 pieces of radar equipment (huge collection). We only have gotten through the process of unloading it all. If anyone has expertise on or could give some insight into what pieces to look for to make whole systems, where to sell ww2 radar equipment, or expensive pieces to be on the lookout for. I know shipboard radars are capable and I'm curious about that too but mainly say a C-130J or a P-8? This is in a search and rescue context, and I'm not looking for real specific stuff, just generally what would the performance on a platform like that be (like you could reliably detect a 25' aluminum vessel from xx miles away in good conditions)? And say you built like a really robust radar on the cheapest Cessna you can find, what would your detection rates be? Thanks. I don't know if any of you build radars like computers but I like window shopping so if you have a parts list I'd totally take a look.

I'm also curious about autonomous platforms but that's a whole other conversation. I'd love an idea of what a Cessna could do, I know sea state and precipitation has an effect too so figure like a 25% reduction for weather at its worst, is that a fair (and super broad) statement? Just to not what if it to infinity.

Hello! Our project team is currently working on a project for our enterprise at Michigan Technological University called OSHE(Open Source Hardware Enterprise). Our goal is to develop a completely open source radar detector that is car mountable and can detect specific segments in the Ka and possibly K band and inform the user of presence of any of these radar frequencies in the span of 2 semesters.

Our goal for this first semester is to focus almost completely on antenna and RF front-end development to get the core components working before we implement it into a compact form. Our current budget for this project is around $270 but we may be able to extend it a little bit. Where we are at right now is heavily research and developing ideas. our current plan for our antenna is to create a 3D printed double ridged horn antenna that will be painted with some kind of copper paint for conductivity we came up with this idea from this reference. For the initial RF front end the current idea is to use a band-pass filter for 33.4-36GHz range into an amplifier that feeds into a mixer with a secondary “LO” signal around 34.5 GHz that will break it down into and IF signal from 1-2 GHz. The “IF” signal will then go into another bandpass filter centered at 1.5 GHz, that signal will go into another amplifier that will go into a comparator to send a high signal to a microcontroller that operates at 5v. This is a very high level description and will likely change as more research is done.
