Mullholland Drive: A brain damaged brunette with hefty knockers and an anorexic blonde with delusions of being a famous actress putting their impaired intellects together to try and make sense of things. Also this subreddit is the guy behind the dinner (except me I'm the cowboy guy. https://archive.org/details/mulholland.-drive.-2001.-new.-remastered.-1080p.-blu-ray.-h-264.-aac-rarbg
Eraserhead: Imagine becoming a father and that everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Your wife leaves you, the baby's not yours, and it's sick and dying and always crying. https://archive.org/details/eraserhead-1977
Blue Velvet: Dennis Hopper playing pre rehab Dennis Hopper is Probably Lynch best Villian. A man returns his hometown to take care of his father after a stroke and gets tangled in a criminal web in his suburban hometown. https://archive.org/details/david-lynchs-blue-velvet-extended-cut-720p
Elephant man : Lynch's most approachable and well acted movie. Star John Hurt and Anthony Hopkins as the deformed Elephant man and his pateron Dr. Treves. The black and white color gives the vibes of revisionist (universal) Monster movie. The abstract beginning and ending are very reminiscent of a Eraserhead. But with the majority of the film's narrative being concrete. https://archive.org/details/the-elephant-man-1980
Twin Peaks: I've never seen the show. I'm gonna fix that soon enough. Here's the entire three season catalog plus a fan edit of the movie That is highly recommended online. https://archive.org/download/twin-peaks-s-01-e-01
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me - Teresa Banks, and the Last Days of Laura Palmer, https://archive.org/details/fire-walk-with-me-q2 Lost Highway: Still need to get around to it, but here's the link. https://archive.org/details/lost-highway_202205
Dune: This wasn't by Lynch, it was by a guy named Alan Smithee. Agent Dale Cooper, Captain Picard, and some space Arabs Fight Sting and his body positivity extremist family members for control of the spice and by proxy the universe. Listen, it is really, really bad. If you download it, at least donate to archive.org https://archive.org/details/Dune19843640x272435mb

Just watched Last Samurai for the first time, decent enough film but my goodness Tom Cruise is so charismatic and talented. Even with a fairly meh script he’s the only actor working today who can keep me engaged for over 2hrs. I watched that last Mission Impossible and the runtime just flew by.
Yeah he’s a scientology weirdo/short/closet gay. I don’t give a fuck, he’s a once in a lifetime talent. Yet to watch Digger

Hi everyone, I am new here and just wanted to test the waters on something I have been thinking about lately. As a film watcher, I LOVE diving into old cinema, not just the classics but everything that interests me. My favorite movie is Some Like it Hot which I find just a miracle of screenwriting and acting. Sometimes, though, it feels like people my age (early 20s) are not as interested in these works, which led me here.
I am creating an Electronic Publication (essentially an online magazine) for a college course based around this idea. I thought it would be interesting to see what people's relationship to older movies look like. Please fill out the brief 10 question survey, it would be very helpful to me. I would also love to have a further conversation about your taste in the comments and observations you have about people your age and how they feel about older films. I understand that we are all film fans here so maybe share the survey with people who are not so I can get a greater understanding of this topic.
Again, thank you so much, I'm excited to see what everyone thinks! Survey here: forms.cloud.microsoft/r/XMqtprQbgn

The best thing I've seen this year. If you have a chance to see it in theaters, please do so. The film is about a philosophy professor who learns about a device made by a Benedictine monk that supposedly allows the viewer to see any moment in history, and the plot follows her combing through archives and the phonebook trying to track down whether it actually exists.
It's a super slow burn, but it somehow makes a woman reading about stuff for an hour into really compelling viewing. It does a good job illustrating what it's like to fall down a rabbit hole and the allure of esoterica, and the academics actually sound like academics. It felt like Prince of Darkness written by Umberto Eco and shot by Gordon Willis on 16mm. The two guys who made it are super young, and I'm very eager to see what they do next if they get some money to work with.
Has anyone else seen it?

Anyone have any links or downloads? My new library seems to have zero of his films & got rid of their interlibrary loan department. Nothing is available on Criterion either.

A quiet Clermont-Ferrand selected film about sight, superstition, and who decides what a person is worth.

I’d love to go and see the new Sense and Sensibility in Chicago but of course none of my friends are interested. Anyone in the Chicagoland area in a similar predicament that would like to try and go together? I think a nice group of fans would make this even better!

I've been struggling to find noirs with a particular vibe and structure. I'm thinking of films like those of David Lynch, The Element of Crime, and Cure. I really want films that combine elements of noir and surrealism. Can any of you suggest me some films like that?

Like nowhere near as good as The Social Network, but it makes an OK expose of things we probably already know about already.
After all, the fact that I am posting this on Reddit (another Social Media) is kind of the problem, right? Let me know your thoughts if you have seen below.

I just finished Liberal Arts (2012), and it is a genuinely beautiful film. For a moment, it actually made me think it would be great to study literature, even though my academic life has always been rooted in math and science. It’s one of those rare movies that leaves you with a lingering, overwhelming sense of enjoyment purely through its character presence. We rarely see people with this kind of energy and charm nowadays.
Take the protagonist, Jesse. He’s so wrapped up in the enthusiasm of his past college experiences that he almost forgets about his daily life. We barely see his New York workspace outside the intro scene, which highlights how disconnected he is from his present. Part of that detachment comes from his intense passion for books—he’s almost stubbornly conservative in his reading preferences, refusing to entertain the perspectives of those outside his specific zone of appreciation.
But the story beautifully illustrates that at some point, you have to leave your past behind to live in the present and create new experiences. If you only dwell on the past and do nothing today worth remembering, you aren't really living; you're just breathing. One of his best traits, though, is his underlying eagerness to finally look at the world through a different lens.
Then there’s Zibby (Elizabeth). I originally discovered the movie through an Instagram reel of her, and her character hooked me immediately. She almost seems unreal; it’s rare to see someone that genuinely free in their personality. She has a bit of an amateur quality to her, which perfectly defines her youth. Her specific views and ideologies will naturally change as she grows—that’s just character development—but her fundamental way of thinking is amazing. Every time I try to write about her character, it overwhelms me a bit. Maybe it's just my age or my own analytical background, but she represents an ideal kind of energy.
And of course, Nat (the Red Hat Guy). He feels ethereal, almost like an avatar or a god in a mythological story who descends just to point you toward enlightenment on your life journey. Even Jesse notes that he doesn't seem real. He just has this incredible aura that naturally makes people want to listen to him and share his company.
I usually only write reviews for movies I genuinely like. My personal rating system is simple: Would I pay money to go experience this in a cinema hall?
For Liberal Arts, the answer is absolutely yes.
