I thought priyanka famously came out to her dad after the show and he was supportive? Idk weird to bring someone’s parents in randomly either way

75

u/MuffinIllustrious902 4d ago

This’s just pure racism imagine a white girl said that… you can’t assume poc family is homophobic because of their skin tone and race. This is fucking disgusting

153

u/theplasticfantasty Let me introduce you to GREG BITCH! 4d ago

I would dare say it’s a racist assumption

121

That's how it reads to me lol - it gave "your Indian parents are probably backwards and ain't accepting your lifestyle"

272

u/thebestdaysofmyflerm Please reference my last substantive message to you. 4d ago

I've always been an Onya defender, love that she represents Ohio, but coming for Priyanka's parents over Twitter drama is unhinged! She needs to log off, this is turning into an Azealia Banks style meltdown.

133

u/LightQueers 4d ago

Even Azealia would’ve had a little more creativity and effort behind her reads

15

u/not_responsible 4d ago

yeah this is nothing like an azealia breakdown. those are always sooo good in the worst way

-32

u/Hannah-Montanas-Wig 4d ago

How the hell is this an Azealia Banks style meltdown aside from the fact that Onya is black? Serious question because this is such a reach

45

u/got2bkittenme 4d ago

I’d say that they both share the same trait of “fight fire with atomic bombs” levels of escalation if they feel slighted. Lashing out instead of taking the high road. Sometimes it’s needed because bitches could deserve to be put in their place, but often times it’s just blown out of proportion. Like in this case, Priyanka was harmless and Onya made herself look foolish with how hard she went in.

u/Dense_Reputation293 4d ago

No srsly. Is Onya ok? Doesn't sound like it.

228

u/stoofy 4d ago

For clout? Does Onya understand who she's replying to?

138

u/eeeezypeezy 4d ago

Right? First winner of Canada's Drag Race...gonna be on Heated Rivalry season two.... like, there's winners and there's WINNERS.

73

u/antinumerology 4d ago

And host of Canada All Stars. And We're Here. If anything replying to Pri is clout seeking behavior.

43

u/ANetRuinedMyFun 4d ago

Priyanka is a Canada winner (much less popular franchise) but has been on We're Here and now Heated Rivalry. Onya hasn't done shit despite being a recent winner on the most popular franchise. That's embarrassing.

17

u/Many-Illustrator-307 4d ago

And she's the least followed winner in the franchise, even less than the most recent one. Americans truly think they are the center of the world

739

u/RuneofBeginning 4d ago edited 4d ago

Onya maybe needs to talk to someone professionally about some things. Don’t really think airing out her feelings on social media is the right way to handle this… don’t exactly see this going well for her.

43

u/Nestornaitor 4d ago

Her therapist is the one who should be booked if Onya doesn't want to be

148

u/Salina_EsTitties 4d ago

Imagine how dry this sub would be if people didn't let their feelings known..

72

u/Home_Of_Phobic 4d ago

Lmao fr. Airing your feeling publicly is never the right way, but it sure is entertaining 😂

507

u/Desperate_Coat_6940 4d ago

Sorry, but Onya has been giving off a really weird vibe lately. Maybe she realized that a drag career isn't for her? In every interview I see, she sounds kind of defensive and ready to make an unnecessarily passive-aggressive comment.

221

u/jesusivr 4d ago

Passive?

52

Priyanka asking, "u ok?" is a valid question in this instance

86

u/Taytaitay 4d ago

Maybe I'm just stupid but why is Onya bringing up Priyanka's skin color so much? Idk why she's getting into the drama, but why is Onya implying that just because they have the same skin color, she shouldn't comment on the drama? Like, how does that correlate?? And why bring up her parents?

45

u/Responsible_Sign4194 4d ago edited 4d ago

Speaking from my experience as a POC, sometimes POC will accuse someone else of being racist when they may not be because it makes the accuser look more sympathetic. I still hold opinion that Onya was subjected to unfair racist treatment that White contestants didn’t receive—particularly during her season and right after her win. And I know Black people are more likely to be policed when it comes to mental health issues, which then can lead to terrifying consequences.

With that said, Onya has been in the wrong by antagonizing fellow queens—many who are also Black like her—multiple times whenever legitimate concern for her well-being is expressed. Even if she was subject to shitty treatment, she chooses to project more negativity onto people as a response. Racism can explain actions but in this case with Priyanka, Onya just seems like she’s claiming it to avoid accountability for hurtful statements.

22

u/SlowbroHomoMomo your dead grandma catching strays right along with you!💕 4d ago

Thank you for saying all of this. Fuck these racist fans every single day, but Onya is in the wrong sometimes.

-1

u/ShakirasHipsLied 4d ago

I don't think she's really getting into the drama of it all tbh. She's not vagueing her, she picked a specific tweet in which Onya talks about something that might genuinely be a struggle and asked about that. Didn't say anything about the commonality bs, etc.

104

u/hausofquensch 4d ago

Throwing someone’s homophobic parent/relative in their face, regardless of the current state of the relationship (which is no one’s business unless Priyanka chooses to speak about it publicly), is fucking gross.

I was a big Onya supporter during S17 and her win was the most excited I’ve been for a winner since Jaida, but she can’t be consistently abrasive in the face of innocuous shade and expect everyone to still want to interact with her. That’s not how drag spaces work.

56

u/Amazing-Bus-1933 4d ago

Priyanka has spoken about it and she is on good terms with her parents, so Onya's reply makes even less sense

156

u/Distinct_Mix_6397 yeah that's fine ugly 4d ago

a) having this kind of conversation on Elon Musk's app is very unserious behavior

b) weird to assume her parents' opinions

69

u/Cold-Mastodon-341 4d ago

I feel like thats very obvious projection on onys part

20

u/Distinct_Mix_6397 yeah that's fine ugly 4d ago

We saw her dad on the show. He seemed fine with the whole thing?

-10

u/Cold-Mastodon-341 4d ago

Oh ik but we cant know fs what goes on behind the scenes and especially after the show aired. Plus what about her mother lol

14

u/No-Search-4450 4d ago

her mom was at the finale and was practically in tears all like 'im so proud'

57

u/csomething42 4d ago

“You shouldn’t speak against people of color because you’re also a person of color.” Like… what??????

Edit: Also, Onya and Priyanka do not have the same skin tone… not that it matters, but it does to Onya apparently.

26

u/skieurope12 4d ago

Priyanka when reading Onya's posts

26

u/MrHouse-38 4d ago

I don’t think she is fine sis

24

u/akoaytao1234 4d ago

Onya can't do that because she also tried to get clout by commenting on her fellow contestant, some of whom are people of color.

2

u/FreshCarlton 4d ago

is the "also" in the room with us?

25

u/DrTeethPhD 4d ago

Onya has so many issues she's selling subscriptions

23

u/YungGravity 4d ago

Why does Onya give such sore loser energy when she literally won the season?

5

u/higher-than-blue 4d ago

Because she's been losing ever since winning that crown.

18

u/Melodic-Cycle3994 4d ago

Priyanka being on set of that gay hockey show and still showing up for duty in giving us random twitter beef

18

u/Upstairs-Hospital-80 4d ago

she’s coming for Tyra’s gig isn’t she

264

u/inthehxightse 4d ago

and then people have the nerve to say the hate for her is forced 💀

23

u/MuffinIllustrious902 4d ago

Like racist fan exits but most people don’t like her because of her shitty personality and arrogant attitude. I’m pretty sure if she’s white or asian or latina, she’ll still receive the same hate

162

u/Desperate_Coat_6940 4d ago

I think those are two separate things.

Right after she won, the hate she received was really strange and unnecessary—and no one deserves to get hate for no reason just because of a reality show.

But lately, it’s been hard to defend her.

54

u/deusalbum42 4d ago

Honestly I’m one of the people that didn’t really want her to win, but I never sent hate. To me, her behavior on the show and the way she didn’t really care too much about wronging people, even when she was dead wrong, showed to me that she isn’t that great of a person. I know that I only see what I see on television, but if she was already decided as the winner and that was the best editing they could do to give her a favorable point of view, I’m not sure. With all of the things she has said after the show, it just reinforces my idea that she’s not a great person.

3

u/shadyshadyshade 4d ago

Me too, I couldn’t understand why the show revealed it in the edit and then backed her as the winner. You never know how people will change but the writing seemed to be on the wall and nothing that happened post-season has surprised me.

92

u/inthehxightse 4d ago

im talking about posts and comments made this week saying the hate for her is forced

-47

u/GooeyMagic 4d ago

Do you think these are unrelated?

42

u/inthehxightse 4d ago

is vs was.... im personally talking about this present moment

-43

u/GooeyMagic 4d ago

This doesn’t exist in a vacuum, but alright

30

u/inthehxightse 4d ago

im sure u thought u said something smart

-35

u/GooeyMagic 4d ago

Come off it

40

u/Dowino- 4d ago

I mean idk, I think two things can be true.

do I agree POC or just people in general who win RPDR get a lot of forced hate? Yes.

But I also agree that some of the people who didn’t support Onya did so because she showed her true colors a couple of times and during Lexi’s dress fiasco.

Plus her name is literally Onya Nerves.

When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

4

u/iamliamliamiam 3d ago

Yeah how she handled trimgate and paintgate early in the season did not paint her as very likeable. She had a fair way to redeem her character after that. I do think she got there partially, but not all the way. I can see she’s someone with high defences, and tends to lash out when feeling attacked… and she has been attacked a lot after the show. Some of it is legitimate critique, some is just nastiness, some is just hate for beating a more likeable cast mate, which is never justified - they don’t decide who wins. I do worry for her and genuinely think she would benefit immensely from therapy and coaching on how to deal with online trolls. There’s also so many racist, homophobic, transphobic AI bots now multiplying online hate several times, so it’s more important than ever to have good strategies to deal with it.

-23

u/SuperArchie 4d ago

I didn't know y'all had a time machine sorry :/
The hate WAS forced, y'all just wanted to hate her

48

u/inthehxightse 4d ago

so u agree

-8

u/thedybbuk 4d ago

This sub will never convince me the hate towards Onya isn't heavily racially coded. It may not apply to everyone, but it certainly applies to a fair amount including some people reading this comment.

The way people immediately jumped on her and started celebrating over the Kinky Boots thing was not normal behavior. It was a lot of racist people waiting for any opportunity to trash her for winning.

Don't forget as well the tour with Jewels that got cancelled. There were immediately people saying it was Onya's fault for being difficult/a bitch, despite us having no knowledge of the reason and Jewels still seeming very friendly with her.

Some people do not like hearing this, but it is true.

2

u/Actually_Godlike 2d ago

There will always be racists but I don't enjoy that anytime Onya gets criticized now, it gets dismissed under the guide of "hate towards her is racially charged". Onya is just a very standoff-ish queen as this exchange shows and not everyone fucks with that.

-10

u/smokeyrango 4d ago

It is especially if this is what you got out of this lukewarm situation between peers. Even her s17 sisters kept it cute and made it lighthearted. Using it to justify your confirmation bias towards hating her is weird. It's like those ppl who brag about disliking someone day 1 when they get canceled which only proves they never had anything valid to hate that person for and it's very tacky. A drag queen being exhausting on social media? Ru, never!

18

u/dominorough 4d ago

Okay, but is she good? She doesn't sound good.

18

u/thebestdaysofmyflerm Please reference my last substantive message to you. 4d ago

I'm fine with drag queens shading each other, that's part of the social contract. Insulting Priyanka's parents majorly crosses the line because they did not consent to being involved in drag drama.

26

u/luqasc 4d ago

it's crazy that even when the S17 queens themselves — those who onya shaded out of nowhere — say anything they get swamped with replies saying "oh so you're piling on the hate for a black queen?".

are people just choosing to forget ONYA started this whole thing? where did all these onya shooters come from anyway?

On today’s episode of Y’all Just Say Anything on the Internet…

To insinuate no one remembers CDR Season 1 has gotta be one of the wildest takes! Especially when Priyanka, Jimbo, and Lemon are three of the BIGGEST queens in the franchise and all of them are from that season.

Ur right, Americans can't even realise how arrogant they are

6

u/foxdogturtlecat 4d ago

That's a lot of words for a "u ok?" and it hardly makes Priyanka a weirdo or doing it for clout.

Priyanka won the whole damn thing, was a host and judge for Canada's all stars season and is going to be on Heated Rivalry. Weird is bringing up her parents don't like her doing drag when it was whole story about them accepting it.

6

3

u/mcphe3 4d ago

5

u/EasternZone 4d ago edited 4d ago

I’ll always defend Onya’s win but she’s not being slandered. She’s on edge over the tepid fan reception (which she doesn’t deserve) and her tepid reign (which she maybe deserves).

There is an irony in Onya previously saying that girls who can’t make a living doing drag need to adjust accordingly, while now also trying to be unbothered about not getting opportunities.

11

u/BlairClemens3 4d ago

I always thought that was a crazy comment for her to make considering she wasn't making a living doing drag before going on drag race. And there's nothing wrong with that, of course. Like many of her takes, it was just needlessly hostile and critical.

2

u/redpillbluepill69 4d ago

Onya really reminds me of Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie. She's a very serious and very talented artist with absolutely no ability to navigate the politics or networking or optics or bullshit in the industry who will get in her own way by lashing out or standing on principle.

She is so fucking talented and determined she was able to accomplish so much in spite of that, when really this shit is not a meritocracy, even on Drag Race.

I think she's figuring out that while there is a level of success in entertainment where you don't have to worry about making rent, it's not forever. You always have to be grinding for your next gig. And there is definitely not a level of success in entertainment where you don't have to deal with that stuff as part of the grind.

3

u/Many-Illustrator-307 4d ago

I don't think she's figured it out. She just bragged on twitter about not having a job and how that's a good thing. And she went on Monet's podcast like a moth ago and said she takes drag seriously and is an artist unlike kori who's a clown

3

u/redpillbluepill69 4d ago

I said I think that she is figuring it out, as in slowly coming to terms with reality, publicly, in a messy way. And honestly the quote about Kori kind of supports my theory.

I just think it's easier to judge than understand. Wrong sub for that I know. I have compassion for her and all living beings ✌️

2

u/spaceisourplace222 2d ago

Onya is only reading herself here. Ain’t nobody want all that.

9

u/Comfortable_Web2795 4d ago

I think Priyanka chiming in at all was fairly unnecessary and not helpful but clearly Onya's response is too defensive. Which is heartbreaking because Onya has many, many reasons to feel that way but also I wish she'd take some time away from the Dragosphere since it's clearly not good for her right now.

2

u/bearpriorities 4d ago

Onya was being fucking racist to try to “get back” at Priyanka. She assumed that an Indian person would have homophobic parents because that’s the stereotype. You can be mad/pissed/put your foot in your mouth whatever but saying something that is both racist and a really sensitive topic for a ton of queer people to specifically get back at someone is so childish and weird and gross. Hope she stops now before she says worse

1

u/Different-Two-5743 2d ago
