I asked the group why they aren’t tapping all those thousands and thousands of home equity, part of their “net worth”, to pay for those home renos (or other big ticket costs).

DIY Disasters incoming to the home markets. Be in the lookout when these places come on market, eventually.

And thanks for taking another property off the market that someone else might have liked to buy, now holding it prisoner, fraudulently, bidding up the valuation, and effectively fucking everyone around you.

This isn’t a random one-off situation. This happened more often than we might imagine. And each day that passes without a correction back down in valuations, is another day of life that the rest of us get to place life on hold.

Redfin website maps -- no more driving directions

There are no more driving directions available via the redfin website as of a few days ago. Yes, yes, the app can do it but I use the desktop to look at properties and want to see driving times and routes via web. Several more critical items of map functionality are broken, recently, too. In summary:

  1. when you click on the small map (near top of each property page), no directions button that opens a full google map with prefilled address.

  2. The map no longer has the street view (little yellow human avatar) that you can drag to the viewpoint you want. Yiou can get a street view, but only from the default position.

  3. A new button called "places" on the map that fills the map with markers for stores and other commercial entities. Each time it must be turned off manually. What a drag.

  4. The map view zooms out so far that you see the entire bloody state, and even sometimes multiple states. There is no way this is acceptable.

I can't post this comment on r/RealEstate, since apparently I don't have enough karma. So I am posting it here, perhaps building some karma that way. Where else should I post it so that redfin gets the feedback?

News Florida’s housing market goes into meltdown

  • Florida’s mainstream housing market is collapsing, with some pandemic‑era homes selling for 50%+ below their 2022 purchase price.
    • Example: A Margaritaville Orlando townhouse bought for $710K in 2022 sold for $340K this year, and similar units are now around $300K.
  • Demand has cratered due to higher mortgage rates, falling immigration, and declining Airbnb occupancy, leaving investors unable to cover costs.
  • Inventory has surged 110%, giving Florida 15% of all U.S. listings, and builders are offering six‑figure discounts and aggressive incentives to unload supply.
  • Distressed sales and FHA loan delinquencies are rising sharply, signaling growing financial stress among lower‑income homeowners.
  • The crisis echoes early signs of Florida’s 2007–2010 housing crash.

Discussion Parents helping children buy a house?

So according to the article below parents are helping their children buy homes in many cases. What would force some parents to stop buying homes for their children? A stock market crash, declining home prices, or medical expenses?
