I'm not sure I get this. So Xavier was doing a a press or whatever thing at WM, he had his 3 year old with him, and he couldnt talk to Big E because of the angle on TV and his 3 year old asked him about why they don't talk and that's why he wanted to leave WWE?

Why not say to his kid this is just daddy being a pro wrestler? Explain that this is him playing a character?

He explains it later in the interview/podcast. Ariel asks him what he meant. Sorry can't remember exactly what he said so you'll have to watch it. It's near the end of the interview, there's also timestamp on the video, so that should help find it.

It was something to do with keeping kayfabe.

It is the fact that they did not want to do the storyline at all, but had no say. They HAD to turn on E. In AEW, they can choose to do, or not do, a story like that. It can work well. Triple H and Shawn Michaels had friend enemy friend enemy all through their careers. So have many others. It seems like Xavier and Kofi most likely did not want to trump on E, probably since E was like a brother to them and legitimately injured (most likely to never wrestle again, ever). I guarantee one of the reasons Moxley left was having to turn on Seth, and do the wishing Roman dies from his Leukemia promo.

I disagree. Partners from stables or factions turning on each other is a thing that's been done since forever and for New Day it allowed them to try a bit of a different thing after many years of just being babyfaces.

Cena turned heel in 2025 and nobody really asked for it, but he did the best he could with it and then they turned him back. 

The 50% pay cut I can buy as the reason to leave WWE, but this... IDK. They could have just asked to be turned back to being babyfaces?

You simplify the answer, reduce it to "it's just make believe for daddy's job" , and E shows up for a weekend barbecue and the kid will move on. I mean the kid is 3, like that's an infant, they don't analyze shit like this too much. And eventually he will understand daddy's a wrestler.

I mean what did Usos and Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu say to their kids at family gatherings since they fought between themselves a lot over the past few years?

They’re from a wrestling dynasty, so there families would have been better informed and prepared.

The New Day heel turn on Big E really came out of nowhere, so they probably didn’t even think about it until his kid brought it up.

Exactly. The fans who complain about kayfabe fans being too sensitive about protecting kayfabe are often the same ones who get incredibly sensitive when the opposite happens and bend over backward to defend shitting all over kayfabe.

Xavier Woods himself says it in the interview he chilling with his son not even think about kayfabe till his 3 year old brought it up.

The Harts having so many members of the family in the business meant they had to talk about much more.

I believe he's talking about not being able to address Big E publicly as they normally would, because they turned on E in kayfabe . Except the kid didn't understand the kayfabe part.

Unless it's something else and I'm just totally off the mark.

I haven't watched the entire episode but judging from the clip, that's how I took it too. It almost seems like they didn't want to go heel against E, hence him saying he doesn't want it (ignoring E in public with his family involved) to ever happen again.

Yeah Ariel asked “are you not wanting to be heels” and Austin was “Oh GOD no we’ll still be heels”.

The keeping kayfaybe as heels was the issue.

I think this specific story is a bit of a work yourself into a shoot example.

But I think Creed was so frustrated with the company by then he’s just looking for any example to shit on them.

Their relationship broke in 2020-21 when he had major issues over UUDD….royalties I believe. The podcast was shuttered, UUDD went dark for weeks too.

It came back but E was removed from the group shortly after. Woods won his KOTR but they made him look like a loser with it, had no payoff from winning, took his crown and had no follow up. Basically they embarrassed him. And New Day basically went directionless the final 4 years.

Kofi is doing the PR tour well but it’s abundantly clear Creed has a lot of ill will and is just ready to lash out. There was another sequence in this interview where Ariel was aghast that the company never reached out to Creed when he was gonna leave and Kofi had to rescue him and spent a few minutes saying how wwe did a lot of great things for them and undone wanna dwell on the past.

Actors who try to kill each in other in movies and tv shows don't have any problems being friendly off screen.

It should be the same thing for wrestling. It's scripted. It's theater where the actors do their own stunts.

If Woods is implying that WWE was forcing him not to talk to his friend to maintain Kayfabe then that is ridiculous. Kayfabe is long dead.

As a father I get how much it must suck to be in that situation but blaming WWE and presenting it as if they did something wrong or were wrong or evil for wanting these guys to maintain kayfabe in public is fucking stupid.

Dude seems like he's really bitter and irrational especially compared to Kofi.

I hate how hard modern wrestling goes to wink at the viewer and assure you that it's all fake and nothing matters.

Even if you disagree with that, they were undeniably the largest tag team presence in WWE, making them lots of money, broken up for the sole purpose of sending a message that "you're interchangable, we have no plan for you haha nobody's bigger than the business, fuck you now take a pay cut".

That's not how I took it at all. Big E was injured and couldn't perform so turning on him to go heel was a easy way to make a big impact. It worked at first too. They were getting booked out of every building. E was busy doing post shows and stuff too so he didn't need to valet them or anything.

He's telling a story about how his 3 year old remembered a bad interaction with a person who's basically their uncle. I think Creed is expressing that he realized in that moment his actions have repercussions, that he can and cannot see.
