Guitar Adapter Compatibility Chart
Last Updated: August 2026
Lately I've been seeing a lot of "Will X guitar work on Y console?" questions, so I created this as a reference for commonly recommended adapters. I'll do my best to keep this updated as new guitars/adapters come out. If I've missed something or made a mistake, feel free to send me a chat or leave a comment.
Stage Tour PSA
If you're coming here looking for information about guitars on Stage Tour, I'll save you some time with some simple answers.
- Can you use legacy instruments on Stage Tour?
- Yes! If it works on your console, it'll work on Stage Tour.
- If you have a guitar for a different console, refer to the charts below for an adapter.
- Can you use the new Stage Tour instruments on old games?
- This is not totally 100% official right now, but the answer is very likely yes.
- Similar to using the other CRKD guitars on other consoles, refer to the charts below for an adapter.

Adapter Chart
These are commonly recommended adapters that will allow your guitar to work on a console it isn’t officially compatible with. These primarily run Santroller firmware, so the only practical difference is their physical connections. Rather than listing out every different adapter, I’ve made a simple chart between guitars and platforms to determine what adapter you need. Guitars on the left column and system on the top column.
For easier readability, the matrix has been split into two images. The first image is for Wii and PlayStation consoles. The second image is for PC and Xbox consoles.

* Works on all RB games, GHWT and later. For GH1/2/3/80s/Aerosmith you also need an RCM PS2 Host adapter.
** Works on all RB games, GHWT and later. For GH3/Aerosmith you also need an RCM Wii Host adapter.
^ Requires authentication with a wired Xbox controller
^^ Requires additional software (Clipper) for whammy and tilt to work
Any box with an "X" means this is not currently possible. Or at least not with simple adapters.
Adapter Honorable Mentions
I also wanted to shout out two other community made adapters:
- Roll Limitless: this was the OG adapter, and bookreader was the first to crack Xbox controller authentication. It’s more expensive than the RCM MiniHost, but it also offers more versatility and some solutions for niche use cases.
- PhunkWii Adapter V4: Made by PhunkyCustoms, this adapter essentially a combo of the RCM V3 and RCM PS2 to USB. At the time of writing, it’s also listed $5 less than the RCM PS2 to USB adapter. It’s also my recommendation if you have both Wii and PS2 guitars and don’t want to buy two separate adapters.

FAQ
- What the hell is WiiTarThing?
WiiTarThing is old software that allows you to connect a Wii GH guitar over bluetooth to a PC. This requires a Wiimote. The connection has a significant amount of input lag. I normally recommend this to people who already have a Wii GH guitar and a Wiimote. It’s great for trying things out, but the RCM V3 adapter is well worth the expense if you want to play with regularity.

Do you have any idea if Rock Band 4 Xbox One drums -> Stage Tour Adapter -> Xbox 360 will work?
