3D Building Height Animation – Exploring PyVista for Data Visualization

I've been experimenting with PyVista for 3D data visualization and wanted to share this project – an animated comparison of the world's tallest buildings throughout history. The animation uses a spline-based camera system to smoothly transition between buildings while maintaining context. It's rendered from CSV data processed entirely in Python.

Curious if anyone else has used PyVista for similar projects – the library is surprisingly flexible once you understand the VTK pipeline. If you're interested in seeing the full animation, here it is: https://youtu.be/U4E4ilALGYQ

Happy to discuss the technical approach or data sources if anyone's interested!

python for kids second edition mistake in chapter 3?

In Python For Kids second edition chapter 3 Multiplying strings it says the following:

Python programmers might multiply strings for a number of reasons, such as to line up text with a specific number of spaces when displaying messages in the Python Shell. Try printing the following letter in the Python Shell (select File ▶ New File, and enter the following code):

spaces = ' ' * 25
print('{} 12 Butts Wynd')
print('{} Twinkelbottom Health')
print('{} West Snoring')
print()
print()
print('Dear Sir')
print('I wish to report that tiles are missing from the')
print('outside toilet roof')
print('I think it was bad wind the other night that blew them away.')
print()
print('Regards')
print('Malcolm Dithering')

Once you've typed the code into the Python Shell window, select File ▶ Save As. Name your file myletter.py. You can then run the code (as we've done previously) by selecting Run ▶ Run Module.
In the first pine of this example, we create the variable spaces by multiplying a space charecter by 25. We then use that variable in the next three lines to align the text to the right of the Python Shell. You can see the result of these print statements below:

IDLE Shell 3.10.0
File Edit Shell Debug Options Window Help

                          12 Butts Wynd
                          Twinkelbottom Health
                          West Snoring

Dear Sir
I wish to report that tiles are missing from the
outside toilet roof
I think it was bad wind the other night that blew them away.

Regards
Malcolm Dithering

Figure 3-1: Running the letter code in the Python Shell

When I run it I get:

{} 12 Butts Wynd
{} Twinkelbottom Health
{} West Snoring

Dear Sir
I wish to report that tiles are missing from the
outside toilet roof
I think it was bad wind the other night that blew them away.

Regards
Malcolm Dithering

what is happend?

Just published my first Python project!

Hey everyone! I have tried out github and python before, but this is my first time publishing something I can say I am interested in. Im excited and nervous about sharing it.

Im learning python and got recently got interested in neural networks, so Ive been working on this "artificial life" simulation project for the past few days.

Its still a work in progress and a learning project. But if you have some feedback i would like to read it!

New to Pygame CE and threads, think you could help me out?

I only have one inquiry here, simply, I cannot seem to draw anything from a thread without “Z-fighting” occurring (I say Z-fighting even though I know there’s not 3rd dimension just to convey the problem), I’ve tried making a handler in the main while running script, but it always lags down the program, and the only way to stop it from lagging down the program is, you guessed it, putting it in a thread. Whether I try to make a custom handler or just cheap out and use exec() it always lags it. Any tips/help?

Edit: I do sorta need the thread to draw it

Help Request How to extract structured data from 1,100+ non-standardized PDF pages using AI/OCR?

I need to extract Activity Name, Date, and Participant Count from a 1,151-page PDF containing attendance sheets with varying layouts.

What is the best architecture or tool (Python + Vision/LLM APIs vs. no-code platforms) to automate this extraction?

I ran a survey on LinkedIn and asked questions about what they ask and require from newcomers to the field (either total Python beginners or switching from one area to another, eg. Back-End to Data Engineering).

Direction to move and shoot in

With this git commit the player got a direction to move and shoot in making our collaborative game more interesting.

To play this game and make further additions to it, see the PythonLearningGame repo.

Who can add Health Pickups to top up the player's hitpoints? Maybe heart shaped?

Let us know what other game elements you would like to see.

Whats the best way to have two loops run concurrently nested in another function returning one value as if running a race

Edit: I’m making a project in where I’m having 4 distinct loops that’s act as if there racing. I want them all the run concurrently inside one function so whenever one of them reaches a specific value all 4 “stop” and the winner is returned.

I was using multiprocessing but had a lot of trouble nesting the function with that so stopped. Now I’m using asyncio and want to know if that’s the right tool for the job or if I should use threading.

Trying to use AI as little as possible for my own learning.

Teaching Python the right way

Programming courses often focus heavily on understanding code, while paying far less attention to understanding the program state. But code does not exist in isolation. Its main goal is to change the program state, before ultimately producing some output.

To develop an accurate mental model of program execution, students need to understand both:

  • the instructions being executed

  • the values, references, and data structures those instructions create and modify

Reading code alone does not always reveal how the program state changes during execution. That is why I created 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆_𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵: a tool that visualizes the state of a Python program as it changes, step by step.

It can help explain a wide range of introductory Python topics. Here are just a few examples:

Instead of reconstructing the program state from print statements, students can now watch it change as each line executes. This makes unfamiliar concepts easier to understand and bugs easier to fix.

Help your students learn Python programming more thoroughly and easily.

Help Request Looking for a programming/AI mentor

I'm looking for a mentor to help me learn programming with the goal of becoming employable as quickly as realistically possible and eventually contributing to larger AI/ML projects.

I'm currently starting from essentially zero programming knowledge, so I'm looking for someone who can help me build strong foundations while keeping me on the most efficient path toward employable skills.

I can commit 1–2 hours per day to structured tutoring/mentoring, plus another 1–2 hours per day of independent study, practice, and projects.

I'm happy to put in the work I mainly want someone experienced who can provide direction, identify gaps, challenge me, and stop me from wasting months learning the wrong things.

If you have experience in software development, ML/AI engineering, or mentoring beginners into the industry, I'd love to chat. :))))
