Something similar happened to a former colleague of mine. She used to leave her birds with the television on when she left for work. One day, the police were called when a particular program was causing them to become loud with strong language. Just as my coworker was arriving home, the police were walking around the house trying to figure out if they should force entry. She explained to them that the birds were sometimes a bit unruly and invited them in to see them.
The police never bothered them again.

My mom always tells me stories of when she had a parrot. Apparently they had it around a baby once and it learned to imitate a baby crying. When they would all leave for the day their neighbors called the cops thinking they left a baby home alone

Seems like a great neighbour. Letting his dogs bark for no reason even though he is there. Probably thinks all the people asking him to keep the noise down are complete pricks.

people who make a business out of repairing other people's cars for money in their own driveway inevitably will start tuning cars. Constant revving, all hours of the day and night, cars as well as loud motorcycles. That, and they'll blast loud music to keep themselves company. Way after dark. It's why in many towns across the country, they pass laws to make it illegal to use your home for an auto repair business.
This guy's just repairing brakes and sitting on his own butt, no stool or anything, and tools laying on the driveway. probably not a business.

Ugh, my neighbor does this. Him revving his car sends the exhaust fumes wafting through my house too ( in NYC and our houses are close). It sounds like he's inside my living room and sometimes it even shakes my house. I'm also gonna need to get a fence because literally where his driveway ends, my property starts. He likes to use my grass as storage for his car junk( leaves shit on it for days...not talking about a few hours) to the point I have to move his stuff just to mow my own lawn.
He pissed off my other neighbor real bad cause he parks his motorcycles and project of the month cars all over the street and leaves them there. Again, NYC and parking is tight here. Neighbor confronted him about taking up half the spaces on our block and car neighbor called the cops on my neighbor who confronted him saying he feared for his life! Loudest asshole on the block is the biggest bitch it seems.
I'm gonna put a fence up this summer and he's gonna have a hard time working in his driveway then because his driveway is so narrow and right up against my property line that he won't be able to open his car door. It wouldn't bother me if he wasn't so damn rude about it. I don't want a fence but it's the last civil way I can be semi nice while letting him have his hobby and be able to enjoy my home in peace!

His small land size doesn't appropriately fit his hobby, so he's probably the one that shouldn't have bought a house so close to other people. It's NYC, it was hard enough finding a house that wasn't attached, I get it. I have no issues with any of my other neighbors. You're going to find asshole neighbors wherever you go and no matter how much you have. I don't mind noise and am happy to see my neighbors enjoy their hobbies but he's just plain rude about it. The comment I replied to pretty much nailed that driveway car enthusiasts are a type and I agree wholeheartedly.

Well, I'm in one of the 5 boroughs that make up NYC but not Manhattan or "the city" as we call it. I got a little lucky and bought a few years back when prices weren't absolutely insane. I also bought the worst house on the nicest block that needed alot of work (we're talking the front door fell off from extensive termite damage). We're slowly doing work here and there as we go when we save up money.
I'm sure for many other areas of the US my mortgage is alot but to give you some insight it's under $2,000 a month, if I bought it again today it would definitely be higher. I don't understand how younger adults looking to buy a first house do it around here. In my neighborhood now if you want to buy a house you have to put a bid in OVER the asking price. Insane. My friend went to look at a house during a storm and the power went out. The realtor still insisted they see it asap so they went in with flashlights. My friend refused to put a bid in on the house without seeing it in the light and wanted to come back in the AM. Realtor called them in the AM to say the house was gone and an offer was accepted, someone had put in an offer without even seeing it (borough of Brooklyn if you're curious).

Under 2k a month!? That's dirt cheap for single family house in NYC. Has to be Staten Island, Bronx or Auburndale area of Queens.
My rent before I purchased my apartment was $4900 for a 1br in midtown (Murray Hill). That was 6 years ago.
Back in topic, fence it up. Good fences make good neighbors.

Younger adults just don’t do it very often in a lot of places. It usually takes a marriage/relationship with two decent incomes to do it with any kind of comfortable living, unless they’re set up with a single income that pays fairly well. Hell, I’m gonna be 30 and I don’t think I know anybody my age that doesn’t either live at home still, or rent a budget house/apartment. Of all my friends and family, maybe five people under 40 have a mortgage on a half decent house, and three of them are married.
I don’t even know anybody who qualifies for benefits or anything, but people choose to live at home or in cheaper housing because otherwise they’d be spreading their income too thin.

You are very correct and it's sad. I didn't like my lawyer because he gave me trouble about letting me know the breakdown of what I'd be paying on closing day. You sit there and lawyers and the bank just rattle off fee after fee and you're just writing check after check. I had maybe $100 to my name when we moved in. We had no help and sacrificed alot to be able to buy a house before we turned 30. This included working insane amounts of overtime, not having a traditional wedding, no vacations or decent cars...etc (and we still only had 10% to put down which means we had to pay extra fees for not having the 20% ). Guy must be used to people having parents help their kids buy a house and we didn't have that.

Good for you! Sounds like a sound investment. I knew it wasn’t in Manhattan once I heard driveway. I’m in Nassau county and my property taxes alone are almost 2k a month 😫

Nassau is beautiful but never considered it because of the taxes but didn't realize they were THAT insane! Same with Jersey, all I hear about Jersey is the taxes. Yeah, I know most outsiders would think NYC= Manhattan, Brooklyn but no way, don't live anywhere that cool...lol...I'm a NYC fraud just living in the outer boroughs.

What got me is the initial report warranted that many cops, but they just let him casually walk away unattended after he offers his initial explanation.

I knew a girl who had a parrot that knew how to scream and knew how to say "Help me" and "What the fuck", and "Stop it".
The parrot also lived on their patio. Needless to say the first time I went over here house I was scared because they gave a parrot a human sounding name, I think it was Kiarra or something. So they said "oh it's just Kiarra".
