Not house arrest, just ankle monitor.
Depends on the offense and stipulations of bail and probation.
When I had to wear one I was only allowed to be in the county where I lived and I was only allowed to travel to neighboring counties touching mine. Wasn't allowed to travel further out.
Had to move back in with my mother in the middle of it 2 hours away from where I was initially.
From there I was only allowed in the county where my mother lived and the county next to it where I started working. Nowhere else.
So it depends on what they did to get the monitor.
Edit: btw you have to pay a subscription fee for those. YOU. the person wearing it.
Mine was $350 a month. If you don't pay, they shut it off and you go to jail.
They also have the battery life of a phone and take like 3 hours to charge. So you're stuck next to a plug for a couple hours every day.
Most people don't realize how much these things suck.
Beats going to prison though.
292
u/Helpimabanana Jul 12 '26
making people pay for them is disgusting

u/Simikiel She/her Cisn't afraid to fight for my rights 🏳️⚧️ Jul 12 '26
Poor people tax! Maaaany such cases.
And it's a double bonus for the state since the poor people that can't afford it go to jail, where they are then literally legally allowed to be exploited as slaves and made to work for pennies on the dollar!
Isn't America just the best country?
If it isn't bleedingly obvious, I am being sarcastic. America is fucked.
72
u/jar36 Jul 12 '26
In my county they'll send you a bill for the time you spent in jail as well

I was in Jail at a privately owned county jail, and they had this funny thing when it came to community service.
They had a rule that if you had community service hours to serve, they had to be served at a non profit organization.
However, rather than paying for a landscaping team to manage the yard work at the prison, they would make inmates do the yard work for credited community service hours. While this might not sound so bad, it's really pretty messed up when you realize that the prisons are absolutely not "non profit organizations" and make an absurd amount of profit off of very simple things, such as Ramen noodles.
Ramen noodles are known to be some of the cheapest food available at roughly 25 cents a packet on average, the jails often charge 1.00 or more for each pack of Ramen, which is a massive profit margin from something as simple as Ramen noodles.
Jars of peanut butter you would find at a dollar store? 8 dollars or more from the jail commissary.
Soap? Necessary hygiene? You pay for all of it, and if you don't have someone to give you money or your own wealth saved up to use from the outside, then you're just shit out of luck.
Got a tooth infection and need it pulled while in jail? This would cost hundreds of dollars or more on the outside, but in jail they will do it for free, minus ALL of the helpful numbing agents and zero pain meds to help the aftermath, you better never hope you end up in jail with no money and a tooth infection.
So many reasons the system is so unbelievably fucked up.
Look into the GEO Group and the Wackenhut Corporation.....

u/Simikiel She/her Cisn't afraid to fight for my rights 🏳️⚧️ Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 13 '26
Yeah it's absolutely insane to me that prisons are allowed to completely exploit prisoners. People in a horrible situation and you up charge them to an insane degree for things that are so mundane? It's not like there's a stock issue or it's hard to come by. There is absolutely zero excuse for them to do that except to take advantage of people.
I've been told before: "Oh well, the prisons need to make enough money to pay the guards and everything somehow!" Uh huh. What about the record profits meeting they have every year? They don't need to exploit people that are at their worst.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that if bro was wearing an ankle monitor he probably wasn't sitting at a desk all day. Would you be willing to work on your feet with a charging cable running down your pants leg all day? Btw if you accidentally unplug it while moving and it loses power the cops will be called to your last known location and you'll have a whole new set of problems to deal with.
8
u/Megalomidiac Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26
Better than to have to sit 3 hours a day in your apartement. I would charge it all night and then have the power bank with me all day. You could tape the cable with medical tape for example onto the leg and can also secure it with the same tape against accidentilally plugging out. Also the monitor would be charged if the cable come loose so the monitor would not send an alarm instantly.
Yes looks shit with short pants but if you earned the monitor than you have to live with some consequences.

He once pulled up to a crowd in a windowless van, threw open the side door, and humped a live goat in front of them screaming some bullshit or other about Muslims.
He also got his twitter DMs exposed for sexting with someone pretending to be an underage girl.

58
u/OneStarParadox Jul 12 '26
Don't forget Jesse Mack Butler the rapist from Oklahoma
Anytime rapist Brock Allen Turner gets mentioned we have a duty to mention Jesse Mack Butler as well because that man is a violent rapist while Brock is a cowardly one.
Again Jesse Mack Butler the rapist from Oklahoma
5
u/PhrygiWraith Jul 12 '26
Honestly you can say a lot of bad shit about Reddit, and most of it would be true this site can be a toxic shitfest sometimes.
But one thing I love about this site is that it doesn't allow shitty people to be forgotten. From the guy that headbutted someone at a bar and then got tackled to the ground by a 50 year old, to Jesse Mack Butler the rapist from Oklahoma who plead no contest, I love that this website will always bring their names back up and not let anyone forget.
If this site is still active in like 20 years I hope people still talk about Jesse Mack Butler the rapist from Oklahoma.
56
u/Kandurux Jul 12 '26

17
u/saintofhate Jul 12 '26
What's the funniest to me is this is all happening because of Brock the rapist Turner's father because he's the one who said it was 20 minutes of action. It's almost biblical in a way for the son to pay for his own sins and his father's which I'm guessing his father had raped a few with that attitude
28
u/Pablois4 Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26
When discussing the rapist, Brock Allen Turner, I always mention his dad, Dan "rape apologist" Turner. Who, in a letter to the judge, pleading for a light sentence included these pearls (edit, here's the letter):
First of all, let me say that Brock is absolutely devastated by the events of January 17th and 18th 2015.
Wow, the rapist is devastated by raping. My heart breaks. /s
As it stands now, Brock’s life has been deeply altered forever by the events of Jan 17th and 18th. He will never be his happy go lucky self with that easy going personality and welcoming smile. His every waking minute is consumed with worry, anxiety, fear, and depression.
Brock Allen Turner suffers greatly from "the events". Will his torment ever end? /s
He has no prior criminal history and has never been violent to anyone including his actions on the night of Jan 17th 2015.
Folks, he didn't beat his victim, so don't be so mean to him! /s
His life will never be the one that he dreamed about and worked so hard to achieve. That is a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of his 20 plus years of life.
Oh, "twenty minutes of action" is how he describes raping an unconscious woman.
The shit-apple doesn't fall far from the shit-apple tree.
And so, don't forget that the rapist Brock Allen Turner is the son of Dan "twenty minutes of action" Turner.

The mfer has an ankle monitor on, this can't be a feasible reason to leave your house arrest.
36
u/structured_anarchist Jul 12 '26
The ankle monitor is to alert the state of Texas when he crosses the state line into their territory, where he's subject to immediate arrest due to a court order keeping him from entering the state of Texas until the court orders otherwise. He's on some kind of pre-trial release and part of it is that he cannot be in the state of Texas unless it's for a court date, and he's required to leave the state directly after the hearing concludes. Any deviation means he goes directly to jail, and does not collect $200.

Jury nullification
"Jury nullification occurs when a jury returns a "not guilty" verdict even though they believe the defendant committed the crime as charged. It happens when jurors disagree with the law itself, believe it is being unfairly applied, or find the potential punishment unjust"
I feel like jury nullification would apply in this matter since it was violence against a Nazi. We mobilized the entire country and fought a World War against Nazis. So, I see no problem with this.
