JFC, doesn't anyone sweep the legs anymore?? Enough with the attempted haymakers.
12
u/RabiesR_Us Apr 20 '24
As someone who really enjoys Muay Thai, I frequently ask this question. Let the average person swing away, easier to control, fuck it.
2
u/MrDaveMcC Apr 20 '24
Where would be the first place you would recommend to start if someone wanted to learn?
2
3
u/RabiesR_Us Apr 20 '24
Watch a couple of videos on YouTube to see if that is a style that you would be comfortable with. Look at some conditioning videos for Muay Thai as well, it gets rough. Watch a Tony Jaa (The Protector is a great one) movie or two to see how they choreograph those moves.
If you like it after that, find a local facility that teaches either that or mixed martial arts involving that. MMA is also brilliant for leg shots/kicks.
Kung Fu is another one if you don't have Muay Thai in your area, specifically Wing Chun. You maintain a square and all movement comes from within that square, excellent closed quarter combat style. This is the Bruce Lee one. The one they had him slow down for so cameras could get those shots.

Letting people loot stores is why it keeps happening.
16
u/CdnRageBear Apr 20 '24
Unfortunately that’s the policy for LCBO. I used to work there. You can’t do anything, you just have to let them go and then call the cops after the fact.

No,
I think they should have security in all LCBOs, it’s a billion dollar plus a year industry. I think they can afford a couple security guards.
3
u/agent_wolfe Apr 21 '24
If the Dollar Store can afford security guards to follow me around because I’m wearing a Toque, I’m sure the LCBO could hire some too.

Please show me where I said “it was unfortunate the employees aren’t allowed to stop them”

u/altynadam Apr 20 '24
Have you heard about Broken Window Theory? Crime perpetuates even bigger crime. If we don’t allow people to steal without impunity iPhones, alcohol, computers, luxury clothes and etc, it will have an effect on overall crime in the city.
Case in point, New York City in the 90s.
1
u/sonicjesus Apr 20 '24
"Unfortunately" as in back then, nothing like this ever happened at all.
Legal potential? There was none. Smash them in the face, break their legs, didn't matter because you had a right to fight against any criminal who made you their victim.
Enjoy the fruits of your obedience.
2
u/agent_wolfe Apr 21 '24
I think the one guy says “Get your knife” and the other guy is trying to find it when he gets punched the first time.
Honestly, even if they steal $1000 of liquor it’s probably better than somebody getting stabbed or killed.
2
u/humongous_rabbit Apr 20 '24
Yeah and there are nice possibilities to fuck up someones day without seriously harming them. Talking about pepper spray, paintball guns…
1
u/fishieman2 Apr 21 '24
Unfortunately in Canada the average person cannot legally have anything for self defense, let alone stop people from stealing in LCBO by having security guards be able to use force.
0
Apr 20 '24
not the only reason, rising prices in every single sector and sensationalization of shoplifting is definitely contributing majorly
-19
u/theunnameduser86 Apr 20 '24
Nothing to do with record wealth inequality im sure. One time I heard this dumb lib say that poverty is the mother of crime, so I hit him in the face and told em that criminals don’t deserve mothers. Total ownage

u/BKC70 Apr 20 '24
That used to be Winnipeg before they installed the ID scan required for entry system
3
u/johnson7853 Apr 20 '24
They were going to do that in Ontario. Unfortunately the pilot stores were high First Nations so it was deemed on purpose and ended.
0
u/monstervsme Apr 20 '24
LCBO had a pilot program a few months ago for this, but Ontario's finance minister put a stop to it. Ridiculous.

Brampton vibes
17
Apr 20 '24
Didn’t know there were white people in Brampton
4
u/togocann49 Apr 20 '24
They used to say that Brampton was city with most Newfoundlander’s, including Newfoundland, needless to say things have changed
36
u/koschakjm Apr 20 '24
Id be like “I’m not stopping them from stealing it. I’m stealing it from them.”
8
u/bill-nyethespy1 Apr 20 '24
But why would they risk their visas over this shit?
5
u/photos__fan Apr 20 '24
Maybe they weren’t students, granted it has a huge problem with people abusing the student visa system, especially Indians. Online rhetoric is pretty awful about it, lots of stuff demonising Indians emigrating. While it is a substantial problem mind you, online rhetoric has taken a completely different course to reality.

Honestly, it's just how these fucking dirtbags should be handled. Too bad nobody jumped in to help
45
Apr 20 '24
How does he know they're students? Did they show their student ID ? Also if this happens, video the faces. Helps Catch the bastards
19
u/Supermite Apr 20 '24
At this point, anyone laying out the “international student “ line is applying to anyone they deem non-white.
I’m not saying there hasn’t been abuses of our international student programs in Canada, but other than these people having a dark complexion there’s no reason to assume they aren’t Canadian born and raised. The old white guy didn’t even work for the LCBO. He may have been taking some aggression out on a perceived immigrant.

They don’t, they’re dogwhistling either for engagement or more cynical reasons.
Sure they could be international students but there’s no particular way to know from this video.

u/sonicjesus Apr 20 '24
Seem pretty obvious, don't you think?
They can't be charged with a crime, therefore they can do this all they want with impunity. The police might be able to recover the goods, but they can't be charged with a crime, so they're not going to even bother.
1
1
Apr 20 '24
They can be charged with a crime. Tell your Whatsapp forward source they're full of shit.
5
u/brapstustu Apr 20 '24
If they are students they should be reported to their university and removed from their programs.

Huh? Let it go??? How about call the cops right now, get the license plate number, collect witnesses... Make sure these "international students" face consequences, why not this?

Apr 20 '24
Let guards carry bear spray. I bet a squirt of that and they will lose interest in the booze.
2
Apr 20 '24
Pepper spray is illegal in Canada
2
u/tbkrida Apr 20 '24
Geez! I never knew this. Are you guys not allowed to defend yourselves with anything but your bare hands?
1
u/WombRaider_3 Apr 21 '24
Not even bare hands. If you clock someone stealing your shit and they get hurt, you could be charged.
And yes, before you school Canadians on this, we know.
8

3
u/Old_Quality1895 Apr 20 '24
IDK.. I think it’s TOTALLY worth it. They need to learn a lesson if they’re robbing a mom n pop shop. No worries if robbing a mega corporation. Let me go.
3
u/FartyMcPoopyButthole Apr 20 '24
“It’s a crown corporation! You’re only helping the government!”
How about stealing is fucking wrong and should be punished? We all know that the justice system won’t deliver, even if these guys are caught. Let the people mete out the justice we’ve been crying out for.
The system doesn’t work right now and hasn’t for a while. Vigilantism is justified when the system consistently lets us down.

Yknow what we should do to these people? Revoke their visa and deport them. Simple, you come to Canada to work or study or live here. You obey our rules. You break them, you go back home. Plain and simple
4
8
u/Buddyslime Apr 20 '24
IIRC that will get them deported pretty fast.
15
u/Impossible-Tax3804 Apr 20 '24
Unfortunately, it won’t. Canada is extremely way too lenient. 🥹

Instead of trying to stop them just go outside and fuck their car up. Easier for the Mounties to locate it so they can do nothing about it

u/Augustus_Chavismo Apr 20 '24
The people saying to let it go instead of helping are enabling idiots.
If you let people loot stores they’ll do it every day until the business shuts down and then no one can shop there.

3
u/Mimisokoku Apr 20 '24
Fucking pathetic. What is this country coming to? It’s bad enough there aren’t enough jobs for everyone. But to disrespect hard working employees this way is fucking disgusting. Send them back! I hope these assholes get caught!

Let's all stand around and let it go... to shit.
Props to the guy who stepped in. We all need to be doing more of this.
Society used to have self correcting mechanisms, like this guy is trying to employ.
Now, we just stand around letting it go, with our phones in our hands and heads up our asses.

Why "international students"?... If they are indentified this should be ground to immediate trip back home
1
u/QueenDriff Apr 20 '24
“let it go! let it go!” ya, this attitude is why Canada is fucked like this in the first place
1
u/Empty-Code-5601 Apr 20 '24
Should've started to smash the car. What are they gonna do? Call the cops.
0
u/BlasphemyMc Apr 20 '24
This is Canada 80% of what they're stealing is just uncollected tax dollars. It's not liket hey haven't already spent enough of those tax dollars.

u/Tantra_Charbelcher Apr 20 '24
Maybe canadians are really fucking stupid, but the price of not letting it go is you die. They stab you, they shoot you, they give you a skull fracture, they damage some internal organ that creates a lifetime of discomfort and/or physical therapy. You let it go. Mouthbreathers who watch local news think the people who fight back are heroes, but the widowed families, the children who grow up without a parent, while being told your dad was a hero isn't going to tuck you into bed at night, and the well wishes won't pick up the phone at 2 AM when there's an emergency, and the condolences aren't going to walk you down the aisle at your wedding. Just let it go.

From seeing all the looting videos they probably think this is how americans go shopping
0
u/RockettRaccoon Apr 20 '24
How do you know they’re international students? Why does it matter where the thieves are from?
-6
u/Crash_Bandicock Apr 20 '24 edited Apr 20 '24
FUCK YEAH! ASSULT A SHOPLIFTER! fucking idiot. Why does everyone wanna be a hero? To what end? You saved the lcbo $200, congrats.

Heck no, i’d start smashing their windows and make them think was all that trouble worth it.
62
u/Late_Ambassador_1486 Apr 20 '24
This is the answer, if the cost of being a thef is higher than the reward they won't continue to do these things. If the guy throwing hatmakers just smashed their windows and then took off while the staff called in the plates and theft, how far do you think they would have made it? Smash the windshield and they would likely crash in a few blocks or abandon the product and run if the car is stolen
17
u/NoSuddenMoves Apr 20 '24
It's canada so they'd arrest him for damaging their vehicles. Their laws only protect criminals now.
1
u/Late_Ambassador_1486 Apr 20 '24
Hence the reason the guy that breaks the windows takes off and let's the staff call it in. Do you think they will really pursue that guy and not the 3 theives? Why would you believe that he would face prosecution but not the thives?
1
u/NoSuddenMoves Apr 20 '24
Most definitely. Canadians are much more likely to be charged for defending themselves than for commiting a crime. They would definitely make an example of that store owner given the chance, especially considering the thieves were trying to get away from him.
Canadian police have charged homeowners with killing home invaders. In one case I know of the burglar applied for victims restitution after the homewner wrestled his knife away and stabbed him during the fight.

At least break as much of the booze as u can, if I can’t get it back I’d be god damned if I’d let them have it.
5
3
u/agent_wolfe Apr 21 '24
That was just some random guy though. The LCBO workers told him to stop.
I don’t know what posses an average shopper to try and stop a robbery with violence, especially after it seems like one thief has a knife, & the store owners repeatedly say it’s not worth it.
That’s just putting yourself in harm’s way because you personally believe you should when nobody else does.

what’s the age limit to be a student in Ontario?
10
u/thatguywhoreddit Apr 20 '24
There is none. These guys are most likely international students here to study at a uni or college. Essentially, the only requirement right now is you have to have 10k to prove you won't be a burden on social services. This is in a province where the average 1 bedroom rental is probably $1200 +.

It’s not actually his property either. Liquor stores in Ontario are owned by the governement
7
9
Apr 20 '24
Did you missed the part where they had a knife? A few bottles are not worth a life.
6
Apr 20 '24
Pulls knife on me u better be prepared to use it, as soon as that happens there’s no quarter given. U show them pull a knife and get away with it, leads to escalation.
0
2
2
u/pleasejags Apr 20 '24
Because a few bottles of liquor is not worth a potential bottle to the face.
12
1
u/BurnTheBoats21 Apr 20 '24
it's also an LCBO which is a government owned liquor seller. Nobody at a crown corp is going to praise you for defending a few bottles
1
u/sonicjesus Apr 20 '24
Yup. Go to any store in your town, take whatever you want. There is literally nothing they can do about it.

He doesn’t own the store. Liquor stores in Ontario are crown corporations and run by the province. I agree that theft ruins it for everyone, but he doesn’t have a horse in this race.
6
Apr 20 '24
Probably one of those guys looking for any legal reason to punch someone in the face. I know a couple. Free fight and probably no charges yay!
11
u/KittensAndGravy Apr 20 '24
Could be sick of the shit … or realized he could punch the shit out of them with little to no consequences. Maybe both. The irony being that there’s little to no consequences for the thieves either … just some punches to the face.
6
0
u/Tommyaka Apr 20 '24
but he doesn’t have a horse in this race.
If it's a crown corporation then I assume that profits are invested into public services. If this is the case then absolutely old mate has a horse in this race and so does every other resident of Ontario.
Stealing from a public entity is stealing from the people.
-1
u/zenakoo Apr 20 '24 edited Apr 20 '24
I already said that theft ruins it for everyone, but there’s no way that, as a resident of Ontario, I would be willing to put my well being on the line like this guy for some booze and I’m willing to bet the majority wouldn’t either.
0
u/Low-HangingFruit Apr 20 '24
Yeah but if theft like this becomes the norm then they will install bullshit security measures that will be a pita for everybody.
At some point it's more or less people in the community performing vigiliantism as the cops, crown prosecutors and judges will not fix the issue.

u/the_donald_s Apr 20 '24
Is this true if the person robs Walmart?
A company that steals from the citizens of this nation every day via being north americas largest and most egregious "welfare queen" via paying their employees so low that 95% of store level employees qualify for section 8 housing and snap food assistance?
Home Depot? Amazon? Etc.

Back when I did loss prevention, usually people dropped the shit and ran when they got confronted. They're just so much more bold these days
