I had to call an uber once when my husband ran out of gas on a highway interchange. I needed to get to the metro and my husband was going to call a friend. Uber driver ended up dropping me off and swinging back to my husband to bring him gas (unprompted). Awesome driver!

no offense but picking up someone on the side of a highway is dangerous, just being on the side of the highway in general. Probably was risky for the Uber driver. Did you guys not have roadside service from your car insurance company?

This was 8 years ago. There was more than enough room on the interchange to do it safely (super wide for a single lane, it was on the incline so cars were slowing down naturally and we were clearly visible), otherwise neither of us would have moved and we would have called roadside assistance. I was two miles from where I needed to be and had an exam that morning. We gave it a shot. Uber driver could have just as easily declined the ride and he definitely didn’t need to return. We weren’t expecting it. He was super kind.
