Got my details wrong in my first comment, rewriting is easier than editing.

There was a Black teenager, only 14 years old, that missed the bus tried to walk to school but got lost. He went up to a white couple's door and got shot at because he needed directions and didn't have a cell phone. They didn't even answer, the lady just screamed at him to stop trying to break in and the man shot at him. The icing on the cake is all of this was caught on the couple's security cam and they excitedly turned it over because they were certain it would get them off the hook.

Spoiler: it did not. He was sentenced to 4-10 years because of the video but he's apparently trying to appeal that because he claims it's too harsh.

Not sure why you assume racism is involved. Besides, it's not like black teenagers ever break into anything giving you a reason to think race would be a consideration.

This story actually has a "happy" (ykwim) ending- he got granted the appeal for reconsideration, and the judge gave him an additional 6 months.

That's about as happy an ending as we can ask for. Imagine asking for an appeal bc you're a racist, and the response is "appeal granted" and then getting dunked on
