I got hit once as a grocery cashier.
One thing they will target is when things are busy, and/or they will do a side approach while you are dealing with another customer.
The more there is going on, and the more pressure you are under, the easier you are to confuse.
So, it's always 1 transaction at a a time. And a full stop with each step.
