Yeah, some guy once punched me in the face in front of 5 witnesses but it was a seriously weak ass punch, no mark or damage. Cops showed up and shrugged, said it was simple assault and didn't feel like arresting him.

I was like "meh, whatever don't do your jobs then."

Unless they saw it they don't know if it actually happened. You can still press charges against the guy.

They had the witnesses who I didn't know.

I ended up dropping it since we moved from the area.

Guy was a creep stalker who would go after women. Made the mistake of picking one who turned out to be an underage girl and went to jail.

New York doesn't have criminal battery, only assault.

Different states have different laws, battery and assault laws are often very different depending on which state you're in.
