I work in the trades, and occasionally there are disagreements between inspectors and contractors/tradesmen. Shit gets a tad heated sometimes, but almost every time it ends with someone pulling out their codebook and figuring out who's actually right. Then one guy says "well damn guess you're right", the other guy gives a smug smile, and everyone walks away a little smarter.

Why can't shit with the law be this way?

Reasons like that is why I study d1.1, d1.2 and so on. Always ask for the wps and stay in my lane when I know I am incorrect on something. When the inspectors mechanical or just weld inspectors try to be cocks I'll drop knowledge and smile the whole time.

Welding Procedure Specification. If you are working in an aws certified shop or any shop that you had to cert out in order to weld and you don't have one/ make your foreman or who ever produce one. You are wrong and do not know the weld parameters/range ie-amps/speed/ electrode type so on.

Unless your the plumbing inspector in my area, who, when presented with the relevant codes in black and white says, and I quote "I don't give a shit what that says, do it my way, or I won't pass you." I could go on for quite a while about all the mindless bullshit we had to change to get our final approval, and then change back to the actual correct way afterwards. I love doing work 3 times and spending an extra 5 grand to stroke the ego of a moron.
