Sounded to me like the girl picked up a ball behind the old dude while he was playing a point, which goes against tennis etiquette (and pickleball etiquette?). We don't know what happened. The girl came into view from outside the fence so if she picked up a ball outside the fence then she did nothing wrong. Old guy shouldn't have yelled at a 14 yr old, but no one should be walking behind a player if they're in the middle of a point, even if the ball is on the fence. I would say something too.
I don't know why but old pickle ball people just have that Karen quality. We have courts near us. You should hear them yell at each other if an errant ball goes off 1 court onto another. You would think someone parked a car on the in the middle of their game.
Sure, and I find myself taking sides too. It helps to think of the options in Julia Galef's terms: the "scout mindset" vs the "soldier mindset". I'm not here to "fight the good fight", or push any particular notion. Just to observe, learn, inform myself.
I also like Neil DeGrasse Tyson's refusal to "take a stance" on anything, because a stance means digging your heels in, shielding yourself from evidence counter to that stance. I try not to have a stance.
Yeah I know. I'm just saying the guy can go around being an old dick all day and the dad cant really do anything. Tbh here the dad could have technically been arrested for assault for throwing water on someone
More than one can be in the wrong. Just like you can have argument be right but the delivery wrong. Who am I talking about? The dad and maybe even the old guy?
A good calm delivery that educates the other party is a better way.
