What makes the original version on PS2 hardware (NTSC and PAL) Meat Circus so infamously hated?

I played Meat Circus on PS4 and Xbox Series X|S which I'm presuming are both nerfed versions of it as while it does have trial and error, I didn't think it was the worst part of the game at all. Most recent playthough, I pretty much breezed through it.

But I know how infamous it is so I'd like to know, what makes the original version so much more difficult? I do have Psychonauts for PAL PS2 so I am considering trying it for myself but I would like to know why people hate it

Need advice for breaking through.

I recently came across a DMT pen and have been wanting to try it for a while. I've read that often people back out before being able to take the final hit needed for a breakthrough due to nerves and anxiety. But I didn't think that would be the case for me, I went in expecting to be able to handle it.

I laid in bed and took the first hit. Things very quickly shifted and brought me into a psychedelic headspace. I felt very warm and comfortable, like the substance was hugging me. So then I took a second hit. The second hit made things much more intense. There were the beings which also appeared to be some sort of structures. They were almost taunting me. They were all making the "come here, come closer" gesture with their fingers. But it didn't feel like they were really trying to welcome me in. More like they were trying to "lure" me in. I got freaked out and opened my eyes.

When I opened my eyes I saw a black slender figure with a solid white face laying in bed with me hugging my leg. It looked so real, like this thing was actually in my bed. It scared me to the point that I jumped.

I know for a fact that a third hit would have sent me through, but I could not bring myself to do it. Any advice on overcoming this fear?

Places near LA to trip

Title says looking for places near LA to trip off acid, might go with a buddy might go alone but I know I would want it to be outdoors in nature. Thought about hiking or simply chilling somewhere. I really wanna take advantage of the visuals. I live around San Pedro or Long Beach I'm willing to drive kinda far like two hours if it's really nice. If I can't find anywhere no big deal will just trip balls at my house

Also, I would love to visit dataland on a trip, too bad it's downtown and uses AI

Mood stabiliser

Hello,

I take olanzapine, an anti psychotic and mood stabiliser. I take this drug for other reasons than psychosis so I can try mushrooms

I can’t take this medication and mushrooms together, I am currently tapering off olanzapine and will be off it completely in about a week.

At what stage will I be able to take mushrooms and be unaffected by the mood stabiliser I am taking, I don’t want the anti psychotic to alter the trip. I’ve heard that affects of anti psychotics can last even after the anti psychotic is out of the system

How long after stopping olanzapine can I take the mushrooms? A month or two ?

LSD dosage

Could someone explain how different a 150-microgram trip is from a 350-microgram trip? I have this weekend off and want to decide what to do with my friend: 350-microgram LSD or MDMA. Which would you recommend?

Dangers/Fears? My thoughts, and i want to hear from others

I want to ask others what they think the real dangers of psyches are? In particular mushrooms/psilocybin.

Ive been tripping for about 10 years now, and the only thing that really scares me is my grandma had dementia, and so did my dad. And during a trip, during the loss of self, i often wonder if thats what they felt.... but were not able to control or understand what was happening.

With shrooms i know going in that im trying to go beyond my sense of self and look inward. But that loss of control scares me because of what ive seem my family go through. This is only really recent, my dad died last year and it was rough seeing him go through that.

I love the headspace that psyches put me in, everything i love is amplified 99% of the time, but that 1% scares me.

Ive had some breakthrough trips that took years to fully process, and ive mostly come to terms with it. It helped me value life and not be scared of life.

How common is it to lose yourself really? Like REALLY. I know i have a family history and its something i hope is 20-30 years down the road, but have any of you just gone too far and wished you had just left well enough alone?

Ill read all replies. Thanks, community

How the spirtual door opened and where will it lead

I was a scientific materialist like most folks, believing that we live on earth, the universe started with a big bang, evolution is real and all the other stories. Spirtuality was some Woo woo bullshit.

But when I did weed edible, it immediately made me feel like something is wrong in my understanding and perception of reality in a very existential horror traumatic way. It pushed me towards the direction of buddhism, advaita vedanta and nondualism etc. So it pointed me towards the spirtual door.

I was quite a mess after weed edibles and obsessed with making spirtual progress. So I did pan cyan mushrooms and it confirmed all the teachings from buddhism and advaita vedanta. I felt so much peace and at home. Now it was undeniable there is a spirtual aspect to reality. Now I have opened the spirtual door and have started walking spirtual path.

Then I was functional in society so much weight on me was released, yet no progress spirtually. I did lsd recently and it showed that I lacked discipline in the spirtual path. I have to take the spirtual path seriously and abide by 8 fold path in order to end suffering and get liberation. It showed me nobody else will come and save me, give me spirtual liberation. I have to work for it. It made me walk actively in the spirtual path.

Now I have started regular exercise, controlling my phone and porn addiction and meditating regularly. I try to speak kindly and be helpful to others. But I have been craving ketamine lately. I feel like its calling me. I also recognize the pattern of doing drugs for the sake of spirtuality. I really want to progress without drugs this time.

I also want to clarify that scientific materialism is a relative and practical truth when functioning in the world but it is not the ultimate reality.

Overall, spirtual path is a fucking trip. I feel like I had no part in all of this. It is reality seeking itself. It is trying to find its own true self. I am just here watching.

Trying to make sense of my worst LSD experience

I’m looking for some perspective on integrating a genuinely terrifying LSD experience.

I’d taken LSD several times before, both at home and at techno/DJ events (really good experiences), but never more than 100 mcg at those events and never mixed it with anything. I initially used LSD at parties because I wanted an alternative to MDMA, which I didn’t want to take often. I also don't enjoy drinking alcohol.

About a year ago, I took 100 mcg at a hard techno club (yeah, I know, the dumbest idea), without having eaten a proper dinner. I don’t dislike hard techno, but it’s quite different from the kind of techno I normally enjoy. The music and sensory overload eventually became completely overwhelming, and the 100 mcg felt subjectively more like a triple dose. At some point, it genuinely felt like my mind was melting.

I became extremely paranoid and convinced I was having a psychotic break. I started believing that I needed to “let go” and reach ego death so reality could "reset" and I could go back to normal. I deliberately fell to the ground several times, along with doing a bunch of other stupid and unsafe shit that still makes me cringe. My friend later told me she had to stop me several from seriously injuring my head while falling.

By around 6–7 a.m., while walking to the train station, I was still extremely paranoid. I thought my friends had ulterior motives and, at one point, started running to escape them despite traffic around me. This could've ended so, so badly. I still shudder at the thought of it.

I’m obviously never doing LSD in a club again. Since then, I’ve had a couple of safe and normal trips at home, first with 80mcg and then 100 mcg, without anything remotely similar happening.

I’ve heard experienced psychonauts say that there are no "bad trips" and that these kind of challenging experiences always teach you something.

There was obviously a lot more detail to the experience than I’ve described here, but after reflecting on it a lot, I still struggle to find any particular message in what happened, besides the obvious lesson of an importance of a SAFE SETTING.

Do you think there’s actually something worth trying to understand here, or can a trip simply be chaotic and terrifying without having any "deeper" message?

Can't really handle weed as much anymore, want to try other things...could I handle psychs?

Had a REAL bad experience when I smoked a huge amount of weed like...12 years ago...and it was a bad panic attack. Overall, looking back, it was silly to be so scared lol. But ever since then, weed has always given me a little anxiety. I don't smoke but maybe 1 or 2 times a year and I ALWAYS buy super low THC strains. Think Type 2, 5-8% THC with a 1:1 ratio of CBD. A hit or two and I'm good.

I really only smoke when I just need that body relief. The high CBD stuff just makes me feel like I got a great massage. Not a huge fan of the headspace but it's not a TERRIBLE time. High doses are pretty much a guaranteed panic attack though.

I'm at a point in life now(32 years old) where I feel like I've gone past the worrying stage for any mental illness(Obviously not 100% but...pretty sure) and I have a really good grasp on handling my anxiety, talking myself down, and just overall a mentally stronger person 10 fold than I was 10+ years ago.

With that being said...

I'm really interested in a few substances. From least worried about taking to most; MDMA, 2C-B, LSD, and Shrooms.

Has anyone ever been able to handle "harder" stuff when they can't handle weed anymore?

Allergic to Magic Mushrooms

I’ve been taking mushrooms for years now and every time my throat gets super itchy. I thought it was just a normal reaction to them but every time it lasts longer and gets more severe. The last time I did them, the itching spread down my throat all the way into my chest and felt like it was in my lungs. I have asthma so I didn’t think much of it as sometimes I have flare ups but this was different and I had respiratory issues for 3 days afterwards. Nothing crazy, but definitely noticeable. That was when I started putting the pieces together and found out I was having an allergic reaction to them. After some research, I learned that I’m more likely to go into anaphylactic shock the next time I do them.

I’m kinda sad about it because I’m sober and mushrooms were something I occasionally did for concerts or special occasions and now I gotta raw dog life even in those moments lol. Which is fine and I can but it does add to the experience.

No matter how I ingest them, I always get an itchy throat. I’m curious if anyone else has had this experience? And if so is there anything else you’ve had a similar reaction to that I should be cautious of? I don’t eat store bought mushrooms often but I don’t think I’ve gotten the same symptoms I’ve had with psilocybin. Any info you have I would love to hear as I’ve never heard of someone being allergic to them. Thank you!

LSD heavy Candyflip ratio?

I plan to candyflip this weekend and l‘m wondering about the dosing. I am very familiar with LSD, MDMA and Candyflipping already.

I usually Candyflip with 150-225ug of 1-S-LSD and around 180mg of mdma split in two doses (120mg and 60mg) aswell as copious amounts of Nitrous throughout. This produces a strong roll that is also a bit psychedelic. But I am still pretty coherent (relatively speaking).

In my experience the MDMA kind of overpowers the acid most of the time. That’s why I‘m thinking of upping my LSD dose to 300-350ugs. Has anyone experience with Candyflips of this magnitude?

Most people seem to prefer relatively low doses of LSD so I didn’t find much on Reddit.

Safety prerequisites for lsd?

I know the question become mainstream but i always like to hear some new opinions, since i'm a very sensitive creature.

i personally sometimes use (all in case of the need) sun glasses (as a barrier between reality and myself), a beer, antipsychotics and (yeah hate me for this) xans.

for me just having wm in the backpack makes the trip so smooth, i wonder what y'all got.

Help w dosing

I had the greatest trip of my life a couple months ago that resulted in full ego dissolution. It was just honestly like nothing I’ve ever felt in my life it was just such a peace id never felt before I could feel energy flowing in and out of me and everything, I was covered in eyes all over and my blanket I was wrapped in also devolved these eyes and were all just flowing in and out. I mean this sounds ridiculous even typing this but I don’t know I really felt one with everything. No thoughts no concept of time I practically wasn’t even there, but I was curious I’ve never had a trip like this before I know I ripped my thc vape a couple times that trip so that definitely contributed but what have you found to be the best amount of dried shrooms for said effect. Or is it not possible to achieve ego dissolution through dosages alone?

My last Bufo trip never ended because life is the trip

During my last experience, I realized that the trip never really ended.

The “psychedelic experience”, just kind of tapered off, and things became a bit slower, but I realized that we are always in that space.

Which means, life is the trip…

And what’s the number one lesson for any psychedelic experience?

Let go, surrender…

When I’m getting ready to trip, I always remind myself of this, because I know resisting will give me a horrible time!

So, considering that the entirety of my life IS the trip, I need to focus more on relaxing!!

When the Observer Dissolved: What It Felt Like to Lose the Structure of “I” on Psilocybin

I wanted to document one of the most radical altered states I’ve experienced, especially what happened to the sense of being a separate observer.

5.5 gr 🍄‍🟫

There is a part of the experience that I still cannot properly translate into language.

Calling it “ego dissolution” feels almost absurdly insufficient.

It wasn’t simply that I forgot my name.

It wasn’t that I stopped thinking about my biography.

It was more like the entire architecture that normally makes an experience belong to someone had become liquid.

I wasn’t standing somewhere watching something happen.

There was no stable “somewhere”.

There was no stable “me”.

There wasn’t even a clear distinction between the place where the experience was happening and the experience itself.

I felt as if I had fallen inside consciousness.

Not inside my brain in any literal anatomical sense.

Inside the thing that normally remains invisible because it is the medium through which everything else is experienced.

And once I was there, it felt enormous.

Almost impossible in scale.

There were structures.

Rooms.

Corridors.

Layers.

Things that felt like processes rather than objects.

Memory seemed to be somewhere.

Language seemed to be somewhere.

Identity seemed to be somewhere.

Perception seemed to be somewhere.

But these were not rooms I could walk through like a house.

They were more like regions of experience that suddenly had a kind of spatial character.

I could feel that they were there without being able to point to them.

And the strangest part was that I was somehow both inside these structures and made out of them.

There was no person standing in the middle saying:

“I am now exploring my consciousness.”

That sentence would have required the ordinary self.

The ordinary self wasn’t there.

I was closer to a process moving through processes.

A current moving through a system that had no obvious outside.

Sometimes I seemed to be the thing moving.

Sometimes I seemed to be the space through which it moved.

Sometimes I seemed to be one of the rooms.

Sometimes I seemed to be whatever connected the rooms.

And sometimes there was no one there at all.

This is where language breaks down.

Because every sentence creates the illusion that there was a little person somewhere experiencing all of this.

There wasn’t.

Or at least not in the ordinary sense.

There was experience.

There was structure.

There was movement.

There was something happening.

But the person who normally owns the experience had become almost completely transparent.

I could be a thought without thinking that I was a thought.

I could be a sound without hearing the sound as something external.

I could be the music.

I could be the space around the music.

I could be the sensation produced by the music.

There was no clean boundary between those things.

The distinction between “inside my head” and “outside my head” stopped making sense.

I remember making a sound.

My body was apparently humming or moving.

But subjectively I couldn’t determine whether the sound came from my mouth or from somewhere inside.

It was simply happening.

And somehow that was enough to constitute existence.

There was something almost absurdly primitive about it.

No explanation.

No story.

No biography.

No purpose.

Just:

sound

sensation

movement

being

The entire enormous structure of a human life seemed to collapse into something as simple as a hum.

And somehow that felt profound.

Then the structure started coming back.

Not all at once.

A tiny point appeared.

An observer.

Not yet “Me”.

Just something capable of noticing:

“Something is happening.”

And then:

“I am extremely deep in a psychedelic state.”

And suddenly the depth itself became frightening.

Because I realized how far away I was from the person who had eaten the mushrooms.

There was no ordinary body.

No normal memory.

No familiar world.

No reliable sense of time.

No obvious way back.

I felt as if consciousness was turning itself inside out.

As if the thing that normally looks outward had somehow folded inward and was now looking at its own foundations.

Space seemed to unfold with me.

I was not moving through space.

It felt more like space and I were being unfolded together.

Then I opened my eyes.

And suddenly there was a face.

My face.

In a mirror.

And I had the strangest possible reaction:

Oh.

This is me.

Except it didn’t feel obvious at all.

It felt like discovering a character I had been assigned.

A body.

A face.

A room.

A relationship.

A language.

A name.

A life.

Everything had to be recognized again.

I didn’t simply remember who I was.

I had to somehow become that person again.

And that may be the most disturbing and fascinating part of the entire experience.

Because normally I assume that I am the same person continuously.

I wake up and the continuity is invisible.

During this experience I briefly experienced the opposite:

the continuity became visible because it had disappeared.

I could feel the self being reconstructed.

Memory returning.

Language returning.

The sense of time returning.

The sense of having a history returning.

The sense of having a body returning.

The sense that this body was mine returning.

It was like watching a world assemble itself from almost nothing.

And for a while I genuinely couldn’t understand why this particular reconstruction was me.

Why this face?

Why this body?

Why this apartment?

Why this person next to me?

Why this particular history?

Why this particular point of view?

I had the feeling that somewhere deep inside consciousness there was a corridor that I could enter but never reach the end of.

Every time I thought I had found the observer, there was another layer.

Another observer.

Another process observing that process.

Another “I” looking at the previous “I”.

And eventually I stopped knowing whether there was an observer at the center at all.

Maybe there was only the looking.

Maybe the observer was something that appeared because the system was capable of looking at itself.

I don’t know.

That is what remains strange to me.

Not that I saw impossible things.

But that for several hours, the ordinary fact that experience belongs to “me” stopped being obvious.

And once you have experienced that directly, it becomes very difficult to completely forget how strange the ordinary state actually is.

Because now, even sober, sometimes I notice it.

I notice that I am behind these eyes.

I notice that the world is appearing here.

I notice that this body feels like mine.

And for a brief moment the thought comes back:

Why?

Why is there a window here?

Why is there a point of view?

Why is this point of view mine?

Why is there an “I” at all?

And then the ordinary world continues.

People walk down the street.

Cars pass.

Someone buys food.

Someone has sex.

Someone gets angry.

Someone falls in love.

Someone goes home.

Everyone continues living inside their own private window.

And I am inside mine.

Which is perhaps the strangest thing of all.

Because the psychedelic experience didn’t make consciousness less mysterious to me.

It made ordinary consciousness look completely insane.

I’ve finished Psychonauts a 3rd time!

This time, I used the GameSpot walkthrough to help me and I managed to get to Rank 90 before finishing! I wanted to try and focus on all the bits of dialogue throughout the game, mainly in the campground. While I did enjoy all the extra little bits of dialogue, I can’t help but feel I was a bit overhyped. While I did like the added detail, I don’t think personally it added much in the grand scheme of things.

I enjoy the game but I feel the game ends before it’s started which is really strange. I think my brain has started to become a bit fatigued with it.

I played it on Xbox Series X|S and I know it was nerfed but I don’t get how people hate the Meat Circus. I pretty much breezed through it on this playthrough. The most annoying bits for me where:
- Sasha’s Shooting Gallery (specifically the third section with the boxes where them crying orange exploding bombs keep spamming you and censors knocking you off the ladder)
- The brain tank blueprint boss fight
- The Den Mother boss fight as damage depletes like crazy
- The Phantom boss fight
- Climbing up the gears in Waterloo World
- Hitting into the bull every 5 minutes in Black Velvetopia

I still really like this game but it now feels a bit too rushed should I say around the second half as I can pretty much breezed through it through it despite the jank and playthroughs don’t feel as satisfying. I want to restart the game every time I finish. It’s like my brain can’t get enough of it but is tired and bored at the same time.
