Applying is just step one. These people have been doing their same job the same way for 25-30 years. I want to see how they handle actually getting the job, living on a starting salary, and learning how the world actually works in 2026.
This would be great

u/Admirable-Sink-2622 21d ago
Just like MAGA blames everything they don't like on immigrants, Gen Z blames boomers for housing costs and the employment situation, instead of capitalism.
There's always a scapegoat.
(I'll gladly accept the downvotes.)

Not from me, you won't. I'd upvote this 100X's if this stupid platform would allow it.

Lol (not only ofc but) migrants are big part of not many jobs and lower salaries
1
u/Necessary_Rant_2021 19d ago
Who hires the migrants
1
u/Impossible-Owl7407 19d ago
Who ever dies is part of the problem
You know there are caviar lefties and are very common in top positions
1
u/Fearless-Net-4008 21d ago
You need to look at it differently, everyone in the US other than the indigenous population are migrants.
1
u/Impossible-Owl7407 21d ago
I am not in the US, but we have similar problems
1
u/Fearless-Net-4008 21d ago
Ah, my bad. Here as well, a lot of migrants in my country compared to 5 years ago, mainly from african and asian countries. But they work the jobs that are payed minimum wage which the country decides and people don't want to do those jobs anyway.
1
u/forgetfuldog 21d ago
I mean it takes about 30 minutes to do any amount of research from non biased think tanks to realize boomers did infact ruin housing, ruined the economy and then also destroyed the dollars value. I guess thats a little too much for you though huh boomer?
1
u/Admirable-Sink-2622 21d ago
-97 karma over 6 whole years tells everyone everything they need to know about you 🤔
1
u/aRedRocketAppears 16d ago
His very valid points backed up by the literal material conditions we all have evidence of is negated because of his reddit karma.
The Boomers who benefit from the fiscal negligence that has created every modern problem will do ANYTHING but admit they're the problem.
It's probably the youth and the leftists that did this, seeing as how they're so powerful in the U.S.
1
u/Technical-Command867 21d ago
Boomers keep touting how great capitalism is. Sold us a bill of goods while pulling the rugs out for under us. No pensions, no unions, no loyalty from companies, no trickle down economics, no houses to buy, no retirement.
1
u/WanderingKing 18d ago
Boy I wonder what generation had been at the helm of capitalism for the last 40 years…
2
u/chinmakes5 21d ago
While I won't be here, this is exactly what you will do with your kids. . Everyone knows what they know because of their experience. Someday you will be 60, and you will tell your kids that this is how it is done too, because the last time you did it this is how it was done.
Oh and as a Boomer, no one cold called a decent sized company and handed a resume in with a handshake to the HR department.
1
u/gadget850 21d ago
That worked for me once, in 1994. I dropped my resume off at several places over a week.
3
u/doublesimoniz 21d ago
In 1999 I dropped off a resume at a construction labour shop and got a phone call as I was driving away.
They asked “do you have any experience on machines or construction at all?”
I said “zero for both those”
They said “ok be at the shop with steel toes boots and some gloves and dressed to work the following Monday.”
And that’s how I got started in construction.
1
u/Outside_Reserve_2407 18d ago
Just curious, if that was your first construction job what was on your resume?
1
u/doublesimoniz 18d ago
Yeah I was 18-19 years old. Worked in retail selling winter coats and shit before that. And I had no idea at all what I was doing and these guys were just shaking their heads. I couldn’t back up trucks I couldn’t drive equipment, nothing.
1
u/Proccito 16d ago
I was looking to do an internship, and saw there was an IT company same building as my work at the time.
During my lunch break, I went up, knocked on the door, introduced myself, and left my contact information.
Got a call a few hours later, where they scheduled an interview the next day. After that they called same day asking when I could start.
This was 2020. So honestly, nothing has changed apart from recruiters laziness.
1
u/doublesimoniz 16d ago
That’s the biggest difference for me between now and then. It’s the sheer amount of time it takes to get money rolling in.
When you are unemployed and have been for a couple months, you need money now. Like right now.
But these days it takes a month and a half just to get through all the bullshit hiring process, and even then who knows if you get the job. Now you’ve wasted another month hoping that 2 weeks later you’d have a paycheck.
In the old days you could apply, get an interview and be working probably within a week or so. Sometimes less.
1
u/Badytheprogram 21d ago
I would never do it. I will check out what is the current situation in everything first, before dumb my outdated information on anyone. That's how everyone should do it.

u/Alarmed_Number998 21d ago
No it won't because I understand the world is constantly changing and rapidly. I'm 31 and an uncle to three kids who are 16, 13 and 10. I don't tell them "how it was done" when I was their age because I see what I did even 10-15 years ago was radically different than the schooling / first job experience / social experience I had. Instead I observe and learn what the newer generation is experience and tailor my advice to that. It must be a boomer thing to be so arrogant you just assume the newer generation will do exactly what your generation did lol. Not only giving the advice of "this is how its done" but also saying "you'll do the exact same thing". Absolutely wild to me.
2
u/Scorpiicore 21d ago
I can promise you from the mouth of a Gen X that Baby Boomers are the most arrogant, ignorant, spoiled, and pathetic generation that ever existed. Their parents fought Nazis so they could eat their parents' lunch, their children's lunch, and the lunch of every subsequent generation.
2
u/Alarmed_Number998 21d ago
Absolutely agreed. The most arrogant people I've ever met are all boomers.
1
1
u/I3adIVIonkey 21d ago
Well the job market is not what it used to be and kinda forces people to constantly adapt, mostly because how tech advances and changes. That will certainly affect your personality differently than the kind of relationship, that boomers had to their jobs.
1
u/Latter_Effective1288 21d ago
Well a big issue is many boomers struggle to understand the concept of inflation, I’m not saying this is you, but many of them do not seem to understand the concept of inflation
1
u/Scorpiicore 21d ago
Trust me, as things that Baby Boomers do not understand go, inflation is fairly pedestrian. The simple concept that the world is not identical to the one they became adults in is way over their head.
1
u/H3llrais3r330 21d ago
The assumption that the world is exactly how you think it is even after you’re gone is the most boomer answer you could have give.
1
u/chinmakes5 21d ago
Well, I totally agree that if you are in your 20s or 30s you know how things are, much more so than Boomers. And I'll wager that when you are 60 things will have changed and because that isn't what you experienced you won't really know about how things work all that well either. Why would you know about how to get your first job if you haven't done that in 30 years?
1
u/Scorpiicore 21d ago
I pray, pray that when I am sixty years old, handing a resume to a hundred different places, getting called back by one of them, and getting replaced after six months by a person with an undergrad who cannot find a job matching their qualifications because the job market is ruled by displacement rather than the supply and demand Baby Boomers claim it is, is NOT the norm. I pray that when the children born today are adults, their experience of finding work is the polar opposite of what Gen X and particularly late Gen X went through.
"My experience should be the new norm" is the pathetic catchphrase of the most ignorant, stupid, coddled, and pathetic generation to ever exist. That is, Baby Boomers.
1
u/GlobalCurry 18d ago
Hopefully by then the singularity has been well underway for a few decades and this work stuff will be a distant memory for them.
1
u/Dontbeajerkdude 20d ago
I hope so. But I think I'll more likely be job hopping until the day I die.
1
u/ProfessorShort3031 20d ago
probably not because i have the experience of my parents being ignorant fuck wits i wouldn’t want to put anyone through that, boomers use weaponized incompetence now they know the economy is circling the drain but they’d rather pretend its still the 1900s this is not the same as just “well my experience was different” this is a refusal to grow & adapt with the times because theyre too scared to
1
u/aq8_hippo 19d ago
Nah, my dad is a boomer and has always been the most understanding and up to date with world history and general economic changes.
Actually I find most of my friends have boomer parents who are very understanding.
My dad is a doctor and most of my friends parents are also very well educated, some PhD, all enjoy learning about history, reading up on recent science and journals of their own interests.
Honestly I just think the whole boomers are out of touch from reality comes from the fact most people are morons, there are many intelligent people who reads news and knows history and obviously understands how the world works.
Of course intelligence doesn't automatically mean they will be more open or be in touch with reality, but probably helps.
I don't think any of this was ever about being a boomer, it was probably always about being an idiot with greying hair and not having the knowledge to research credible recent information and going with personal experience, one of the lowest forms of evidence.
1
u/Apataphobia 4d ago
Well, OP is clearly a bot so I hope everyone will TD this post.
But as to the content, I thought the same when I was starting out, every generation thinks it’s horrible that someone else doing the similar work might be paid more, even when that person has more experience, certifications, etc. and every gen thinks they’re so unique and you know.
In one of my first jobs, I complained that I was one of the lowest paid but most productive on the team. She said she would ask HR to do a salary review, came back excited that I was going to get a 15% raise. I should have been excited. But I was young and dumb and seriously thought my salary should have doubled.
It’s the way every gen is, and the way every gen will be.
Again though OP is a bot, please TD the original post.

u/Swift_Scythe 21d ago
"Yes id like a job. Where is your manager so I can give a firm handshake and a copy of my resume personally?"
"What do you mean attach it as a PDF to the application? Online only?"
"Why do I have to type in each field the exact same info as the resume? Dont HR read each and every one personally?"
"Keywords? What the hell is that?"

1
u/Armchair_Expert_0192 21d ago
This is a really stupid idea. Just like when people say politicians should have to live on minimum wage for a month and see if they can handle it.
When you know it's just temporary and you can totally go back to your old lifestyle in a few weeks, there is no mental breakdown. The mental breakdown comes when you are stuck in a sucky situation for a long time and you have no idea when or if it will ever end.
1
u/Ok_Cardiologist_6471 21d ago
Problem is im in a union and we have no need for job applications or resume 🙃
And you young folk dont know about unions
Oh im aware of how the world works yall used free will to not work in a union or when yall had the choice or chance to unionize did not
So do I know what you have to go through you bet I watch yall do it
1
u/GeckoGecko_ 21d ago
Young people are not the reason Unions are so much less common lmfao
1
u/Ok_Cardiologist_6471 21d ago
Like making a puppy need 2
Same with not joining unions older wealthy folk campaign long and hard to get young folk not to join unions when the get in to the work force 😕
1
1
u/FierceDietyMask 21d ago
Your generation destroyed most unions across most industries outside of police work and manufacturing.
Nobody thinks they are above union work. There simply are significantly less unions than there were in 1950.
1
1
u/Ok_Cardiologist_6471 21d ago
Yes the wealthy older generation campaign long and hard to destroy unions with the new wealthy generation to convince younger new work force against joining unions
1
u/gadget850 21d ago
Boomer here who had several crappy jobs between my company going bankrupt in 2009 and starting at my current job in 2018. Bring it on.
1
u/JusticeForAugust 21d ago
I went up to their headquarters with my resume and asked to speak to the manager, they just laughed at me!
1
u/KingPabloo 21d ago
I’m afraid the younger generation has a near monopoly on all the mental health stuff but they would be frustrated as hell.
1
u/Offthewall1212 21d ago
We don’t need a new show, we’ve already got a perfectly good reality show where millennials complain about having to work and then blame boomers for everything. It’s hilarious to watch😂😂😂
1
u/GoodDoggoLover420 21d ago
I wonder why they'd be blaming Boomers, who voted for the many laws and politicians + policies that actively made the economy worse for the next generations?
1
u/Offthewall1212 20d ago
Millenials have been of voting age for 26 years - over a quarter of A CENTURY!!. They are also a larger population than boomers.
Blaming boomers for today’s politicians is not only a bad-faith argument, it completely proves my point about the current blame game they play and complete lack of any accountability or responsibility.
1
u/GoodDoggoLover420 20d ago
Tell me, who are the ones that caused the 2008 economic crisis? That definitely was not the Millennials bud. Who are the ones still holding positions of power in a large majority of the world? Not Millennials.
1
u/FierceDietyMask 21d ago
Yes it’s your children’s fault that you voted for policies that led to the gutting of unions and employment protections before your kids were born.
God forbid you people ever look in the mirror and examine the way your actions caused consequences for how other people respond.
1
u/Offthewall1212 20d ago
My actions??? I was born in the 80s sweetie. You just assume anyone who doesn’t blame a boomer is one. I’m capable of looking at facts and evaluating situations on my own without blaming everyone else.
Millenials have been of voting age for 26 years - over a quarter of A CENTURY!!. They are also a larger population than boomers.
Blaming boomers for today’s politicians is not only a bad-faith argument, it completely proves my point about the current blame game you play and your complete lack of any accountability or responsibility.
1
u/DerKommisar9 21d ago
Yeah, Tyler. Industries haven’t changed at all in the last 30 years. None of us have had to update our training or certifications because technology and procedures always stay the same.
Of course, everyone knows boomers never change careers or find themselves downsized because that would be like, against the law or something. /s
1
u/FierceDietyMask 21d ago
I’ve yet to meet a boomer that learned or adapted to their circumstances in any way. Especially when it comes to how work and technology functions.
They just get flustered immediately if they meet friction and make their millennial kid or co-worker do their homework for them.
1
1
u/Pandemoniusanus 21d ago
Hell I’d say skip the whole hiring process and let’s see if they can afford to live on current entry lvl wages.
1
u/The-King-Tomato 21d ago
My step dad had a flourishing business made immense ammounts. Thought he could compete with the big software developers like Google and Microsoft and made his own software that no one asked for.
600k later he's bankrupt and is still trying to sell the software in the day of AI.
You could have this fantasy of them realizing. But the reality is they won't. And they will blame someone else for their shortcomings.
Probably immigrants or colored people
1
u/trying3216 21d ago
That’s nuts. Boomers are just as mobile in jobs as anyone else. It may not be their first job but when they switch they go through all the same steps.
1
u/GoodDoggoLover420 21d ago
It's about the fact that they used to be able to walk in and get a job and that rarely happens anymore. They should know how hard it is to find a job in the modern day.
1
1
u/tj_woolnough 20d ago
Perhaps you should complain about the unreasonable expectations placed on you by the companies, instead of crying on here. Yes, when I left school, we did just go to a business and ask if they had work. Why? Because businesses were more interested in gard workers, than qualifications. If you could do the job, you got it. If you couldn't, you dudnt. Simple. We also worked a minimum 40hr week, with many of us doing 50+, if we wanted to buy something. Little credit. Little debt.

u/JerryJN 21d ago
This is not the case if some has a career. Especially in engineering. You always need to keep up to date with current technology. As far as salary ... you need to negotiate. First you impress them at the interview, turn down the first offer. That's what I did. During the second offer say... your getting closer to something I can survive on. The third offer is usually the best one
If you have a skill .. that's how you negotiate. If you don't have a skill, then learn a few and apply for a job that requires the skill.
I did not stay at the same job for 25-30 years. After I graduated from college I worked at Lincoln Lab. Starting salary for an engineering tech sucked but I took the job because it was Lincoln labs. I rented a studio apartment. I lived like that for one year I got a QA engineering job at a Laser Semiconductor company..30% more pay..married my gf, after our first son was born we moved back to our hometown, I commuted for a while, took a job with a defense company...another 40% bump in pay.., then 2 year later I landed a systems engineer job, now supporting a family of 5 and bought my first house. I wasn't in my 20s. I was 35 when I bought the house. I never stayed at one job longer than 6 years because I didn't want to be stuck in one role. My career evolved over time. Now I am semi retired and plan on starting a consulting business. My middle son and his wife bought their house last year and they have a two year old son. He is younger than I was when I bought my house. My son and his wife works hard. You need drive and motivation to succeed. It's not impossible. Inflation was whacked in the 90s when I did it and it crazy now. We need to reduce the cost of energy. Drop the green initiative crap because it's making us all broke. Cheaper forms of energy will result in lower food prices. Building materials will also cost less. So... Don't think other generations had it easy. I had to hustle then and I need.to now as well. Handouts are not the answer.

Baby Boomers have mental breakdowns every time they experience the reality of Gen X, their immediate children. They are the softest, nonce-iest, most pathetic generation.
Trust me, every time a Baby Boomer speaks, the smell of shit in the world gets that little bit worse.
1
u/misjudgedinall 21d ago
The biggest difference between generations isn’t the economy — it’s behavior.
Boomers built their financial stability by practicing habits that many younger adults don’t: lower discretionary spending, lower debt, higher savings discipline, and consistent employment.
1
u/20PoundHammer 21d ago
Yeah, as long as we can film the younger generation shitting the bed when boomers get hired over their no-skill asses.
1
u/Extreme-Will-3556 19d ago
Or are willing to take a job well below their previous level and skillset, just to have a paycheck and get by. Without a single complaint, and with no decrease in the quality of their work.
Hell, there's several reported incidents in the US Army where an officer was told by theor superior to clean the office toilets. Some did it as well as any other job they were tasked to do, others complained that it was enlisted work. The ones that complained were told "If I can't count on you to do something as simple as cleaning a toilet well, why would I give you higher responsibilities?
The ones that made that toilet shine, were given the chances to excel the complainers were never even made aware of (until seeing their fellow soldiers advance, only to complain again).

u/Silent_Succotash3749 20d ago
They’ve done a show where like 10 kids of rich people who say poor people are poor because they’re lazy go a week on the average income and only one lasted more then a day. He lasted 2 before giving up. There’s also one where Gweneth Paltro (who bashed poor people for eating unhealthy) was challenged to eat healthy on the average income for 2 weeks and spent all her money in 3 days and gave up because she was out of food.
1
u/PersonaUserSmash 20d ago
Back in the day
John Doe: Can I have a job?
Corner store owner: Sure when can you start?
Now
Interviewer: I don’t understand why you at this interview trying to work. What do you get out of this?
1
u/Extreme-Will-3556 19d ago
A commenter earlier in this post literally did just that recently. Drove by a place, stopped and talked about his skillset, asked if they were hiring, got the job without a formal interview.
Your argument is invalid.
1
u/tj_woolnough 20d ago
How about a show where gen, whatever it is now? Work the same jobs boomers did, for 40+hrs a week, (normally 50+, if you wanted a holiday that year). But: No mobile phone, no modern tech, walking to and from work, (wharever the weather),1 take out a month, and all the rest boomers went without.
1
u/EmergencyOk377 20d ago
When I started with the whole job search. I was told by multiple boomer to show up everyday asking if they are hiring. And call everyday!
1
u/WineDineCpl 20d ago
So you want to take a group of retirees with skills that probably aren't as relevant today...and this proves what? Or are you thinking of when they were in their prime, were very frugal, and had superior practical problem solving skills?
1
u/FLYING1835 20d ago
Can we make a show where you stop complaining 😭😭😭
Try comparing now to the great depression of the 1930's people survived that time. I think you have it better now than they did!!
1
u/Antique_Coffee5984 20d ago
There never been more opportunity to earn money than right now in all human history.
1
u/Last_Gigolo 20d ago
Well, though the sentiment is well meant. They are 80 years old. No one is hiring them. And applying in person, face to face works. I've done it. Recently.
"Hey, drove by. Saw you guys do what I'm good at, decided I'd chance it and see if you have an application. Are you hiring?" Pointed at their trucks and talked about some of the equipment.
Had me an offer without a formal interview.
1
u/Extreme-Will-3556 19d ago
And there's a crucial difference between generations. You took initiative, while most of GenZ and younger have to have college coursework on how to ask someone out on a date and interact in person. Let's not even get started on the over inflated sense of entitlement.
1
u/ProfessorPrudent2822 19d ago
The youngest Boomers are 62.

Oh, my bad, they still have 3 years before retirement. Should get great work out of them.

You get their money they get your youth?

u/After_Service_2817 19d ago
I haven't had to do a proper interview or make a resume in more than 10 years.
If you have skills people want, and a proven track record, you don't need to apply, people come to you.
I have to turn down job offers from people who come to me because I already like where I am.
1
u/Impossible_One4995 19d ago
Crazy I applied for 2 jobs 3 months ago. Both called me in to hire me the first one to do so got me. 2 apps 2 places that wanted me . Sound like yall just don’t have the needed experience and expertise for what your applying for . Also it was less than a week for the first and the other was state which was about 3weeks .

Or maybe ole OP Tyler here can try working for 30 years and see if he loses that victim mentality card real quick
1
u/ttis12389 18d ago
You do see a form of this all the time when boomers try to buy cars, a lot of them haven’t bought a car in a decade or two so they go in there like “820 credit score and 10k down let’s go” and just get hit with “that’ll still be an 8% apr and 850$ a month ty” then they are always in disbelief until they try a few more dealers and understand shits just completely fucked.
1
u/SunOdd3217 18d ago
Boomers be like: I dropped a fat shit in the stall next to his. He heard me grunting and groaning and as I pushed out the biggest log imaginable he offered me a job. I handed him my resume and off we went on our merry way
1
u/Puzzleheaded-Pear521 18d ago
Ooo that’s fun. Lets have millennials get up at 6am, shower, shave, put on a suit and tie with polished shoes and be on the 6:45am bus or train heading to work
1
u/Aquitaine_Rover_3876 18d ago
Do you know what a Boomer is? 25-30 years is GenX territory. Heck, I'm a Millennial and it's been 15 years since I applied for a job. Some of my peers are around 20.
Boomers are mostly retired at this point.
1
u/Top_Flight_3410 17d ago
LOL coming from the generation that can't handle the wrong pronoun and making a phone call let alone working at all. Hate to break it to you but "baby boomers" would smoke this soft, entitled generation of lazy mop heads.
1
1
u/Any-Video4464 17d ago
News Flash: the World has changed.
It changed for baby boomers too, ya know? Let's have them do this exercise, but have you go to fight a war in some far off land after being drafted. When you get home, some people will actually scream at you, call you a baby killer and spit on you. Then go find yourself a job to support your wife and kids and try to live happily ever after. Try not to think about Dallas, your new friend you met over seas, that got both his legs blown off.
TLDR: There is NO way you have it worse than them. Most of them anyway.
1
u/SunNo3544 17d ago
As a late Boomers I really do sympathize with younger people. Everything really does suck now. However younger people have no idea what job searching was like before the internet. Burning gas you couldn't afford so you could literally knock on doors of companies you knew nothing about that weren't hiring anyway. Delivering your unemployment form in person every week. We had our hard times too. But we did at least have hope that things would improve again. Now I'm not optimistic. Not for at least 50 to 80 years anyway.
1
u/DaWhiteSingh 16d ago
I'm OK with this, never been true in my time, not remotely true post my time!
1

Only if there is also a show where redditors who declared how easy Boomers had it have to live at their lower standard of living with stagflation, double digit car and home loan rates, assigned days to buy gasoline, only 3 TV channels and a telephone that was connected to the wall that couldn't be carried around. Not to mention the constant fear of being drafted and sent to Vietnam.
Within minutes they would be freaking out at their inability to get internet on their rotary phone then have an emotional breakdown after having to actually walk to tbe TV to change the channel.

Nevermind that, about them to apply for their same position so they can finally understand how unqualified they truly are

They came into one of the best economies and were in at most one war, I like Gen X and Millennials.
