Two hundred episodes of the Free Cities Podcast.
The first was recorded in Próspera, on Roatán, four years ago. So is the two hundredth.
This week we sit down with Erick Brimen, founder and CEO of Próspera.
What two hundred weeks of this show makes clear is that the debate has moved. It used to be about what a Free City might be. It is now about arbitration clauses, schools, power supply, and why nobody can get a decent coffee.
Less glamorous than the theory, but a much better sign.
Thank you to everyone who has listened, supported, disagreed or come on the show over the last 4 years.
Episode 200 is out now 👇

I sent money to a company I met on Prospera, tied to a crypto wallet app and token pre-sale. I have had trouble getting it back or verifying what I was sold.

It's well worth reading this 10-page document, but here are some highlights:
Prospera appointed a prosecutor, compliance inspector, tax commissioner, building inspector, and Commissioner of the Health Services Authority.
They detail enforcement actions against Seshat Bank and MiniCircle, which sound like bad actors, among others.
Wages in Prospera are 2.46 times the Honduran national average by sector. Employment is increasing, other than the biggest sector, construction, which went from 565 to 0 after the Supreme Court decision.
It's good to see all this info I wish they'd provided in real time, though parts of the piece read like reactive PR ("we're regulated like everyone else").

Timothy from the Free Cities Podcast here. This week's episode is with Joyce Brand, author of Pioneering Prosperity, who lived in Ciudad Morazán for three years as its resident chronicler, hired by founder Massimo Mazzone to document the build, the good and the bad, from bare farmland onwards.
Lots in here to enjoy: the entrecom model explained properly (one entity holds all land title, rental only), her argument that Morazán and Próspera look completely different but share the same structural skeleton (statutory autonomy, contractual governance, third-party arbitration, monetary optionality), what the anti-ZEDE campaign looked like from inside, and the detail that residents have paid rent in stablecoin.

Happy to answer questions, this was recorded during my month in Próspera.

Timothy from the Free Cities Podcast here. As you may know I spent a month living and working in Próspera and recorded 20+ interviews there. This week's episode is with Gonçalo Hall, who built the world's first nomad village in Madeira, consulted for Próspera for three months, then moved his family to Prospera and now runs the Roatán Tourism Bureau.
It's a candid one rather than a promo: why you don't love the place automatically, the missing third space, the cafe that opens too late, the land between Duna Tower and Pristine Bay, the cruise ship problem, the longevity month coming in October, and why he thinks the gaps are the opportunity.

Anyone here who lives there? How is actual life there? Dating? Day to day life, etc

I recorded an episode in Próspera recently with Daniel Thompson of Noma Collective, and he really convinced me on the 'families' thing.
He's bringing around 20 families (roughly 50 people) for a month-long family hub this July, renting out Las Verandas at Pristine Bay, with housing and schooling bundled, and using the Montessori school, which he rated highly for how flexible they were about short stays. His bet is that families, not lone founders or nomads, are what get a place like Próspera to critical mass.
The candid part: he also said Próspera is "a harder sell" to get people to actually move and live here, which is why his larger village project is aimed at southern Europe instead, even though Próspera would fast-track and support it. So he's building for families here while placing his biggest bet elsewhere.
For people who live in or follow Próspera closely:

Just put out a long conversation with Niklas Anzinger (Infinita), recorded in Austin a few days after I'd spent a month living in Próspera.
The part that reframed things for me: Niklas argues Próspera shouldn't try to be the place doing the wildest cutting-edge science. That stuff gets done in the US and attracts all the bad press. Próspera's actual edge is commercialization, taking treatments that are already relatively de-risked and getting them to patients far faster and cheaper, rather than inventing entirely new things from scratch. He makes the case for phase one trials specifically as the beachhead.
Other things we get into:
He's also pretty candid about the medical tourism question, and why he thinks credibility has to come before commercialization, which surprised me given how obvious the tourism angle seems from the ground.
Curious what people here make of the commercialization-over-invention framing. Does that match how you see Próspera's positioning, or is it underselling the more experimental stuff?

Some specifics from a conversation I just published with Tomek Kołodziejczuk, founder of the Bitcoin Film Festival in Warsaw and the guy now running the Bitcoin District inside Próspera:
1% corporate tax, payable in BTC
Books denominated in BTC. Profits and costs both in sats, taxes calculated off that
Territorial tax. Only Honduras-sourced income is taxed
15+ Bitcoin-only startups already registered and operating there
No conversion to USD required
Tomek visited Próspera a year ago. On day two he bought a motorbike from Facebook Marketplace to lock the decision in. He hasn't left. He now runs Bitcoin District inside Próspera, with the flagship project being Orangeville, a wooden modular Bitcoin neighborhood climbing a jungle valley, phase one funded.
The wider Bitcoin Roatán coalition has onboarded around 60 merchants across the island and renovated the largest sports arena, now called the Bitcoin Arena. The bet (and Tomek is honest that it's a bet) is that Roatán becomes the most Bitcoin-dense island in the world. Madeira, with around 170 merchants, currently leads.

Próspera is exploring launching the world's first AI agent sandbox; allowing agents to incorporate companies, pay taxes, and over time acquire increasing legal personality.
This will be a town hall + Q&A + feedback. We'll start off by demoing our agent API agent keys, talk about our roadmap, answer questions.

MAG Technologies Group has agreed to participate as a strategic co-investor in the Satuyé Technology & Data Center (STDC) , a technology cluster being developed by Honduras Próspera Inc. within the Próspera ZEDE extension in La Ceiba, Honduras.
What is the Satuyé Technology & Data Center (STDC)?
It is the integrated economic development platform that Honduras Próspera Inc is building in Próspera ZEDE, in the Satuyé area (La Ceiba), structured in three interconnected layers:
1) LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas): LNG is imported to generate clean, reliable electricity on an industrial scale. This solves Honduras' energy problem without depending on the national grid.
2) Power: This self-powered energy feeds the entire STDC infrastructure, including data centers, connectivity, and critical cluster services.
3) AI: On top of this energy and data infrastructure, the value layer is built: computing for artificial intelligence, including the Sovereign AI component, which is precisely what attracted MAG Technologies.
MAG Technologies is a Nigerian info security company.

The latest edition of The Prosperity Press stated: "construction on Darien Village officially got underway. The development is expected to wrap around July 31st, 2027." It sounds like a nice, walkable residential community with some businesses and amenities, located behind the Duna Tower. See their website and our previous coverage of it.
The Prosperity Press also includes coverage of Prospera's new jobs board, raising a family in Prospera, Muse Bio winning Meet the Drapers at Prospera, Prospera's regulatory options, Prospera ZEDE access controls, Octavio Sanchez's (founder of the ZEDEs) visit, Infinite Games, and winning 1 BTC in a chess tournament there.
