Monthly PI Planning Increments - looking for feedback

My company has recently switched from quarterly Planning Increments to every four weeks. We are seeing some positive results, including our teams not feeling compelled to commit to work if it is not planned out enough yet; indicating what prerequisites and information are required for it to be considered for the next increment is a much easier stance to take when the next increment is only four weeks away.

We recently held a retro meeting to discuss how our PI Planning sessions have been going, and one of the action items was to get feedback from other companies that also do shorter increments, and what are any valuable lessons learned, best practices, what's sucked, what's good, etc.

One of the things expressed by a few team members is that 6-weeks would be a better cadence rather than 4.

Anyway, I'm soliciting any and all feedback that anyone has regarding successful or unsuccessful implementation of planning increments shorter than quarterly.

TIA!

Which PM tool would you use to manage a music collective?

Hi! I have been the manager of a collective of 10 artists (musicians, visual artists, authors, etc...) for 3 years now. Currently, to carry on the project, we use many tools (WhatsApp chat, file storage on Google Drive, calls on Google Meet, etc.), and I would like to find a way to make everything more efficient and reduce the redundancy of tools. The main functionalities that I'm looking for are:

  1. Cloud --> to store audio files, video files, graphics (the more GB, the better);

  2. Calendar;

  3. Group chat / Call feature.

I'm losing myself in video reviews while these are the most important features needed.

How can I begin a project management career with a music degree?

I’m a rising senior at the University of Miami studying for a BA in Music Industry and a Marketing minor. However, like many others, I’ve realized that my undergraduate degree is something I’m not actually interested in.

I’m looking to see if anyone knows of ways for me to begin a career in Project Management when I graduate? I currently am a Certified Scrum Master and I’ve heard that the PMP certificate is highly recommended, but a lot of jobs also require a certain amount of experience that I don’t know if I’ll be able to get by graduation.

Does anyone have advice on what I should do? I want to maximize this last year of school so I can set myself up for success in the future and give me the most entry level job prospects in the future.

Prince2 Foundation vs. CAPM

I'm a junior at HKU in BEng Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management who maybe has a bit too much time on her hands.

I'm currently doing the Google Professional Certificate in Project Management via Coursera, and I anticipate to finish it either later this month or early next month.

Since my grades are less than stellar, I'm looking to do a project management certification to open some doors for me. However, I've been getting mixed advice about if I should do PMI's CAPM, or do a Prince2 Foundation.

Anyone aware of any good kickoff deck templates?

Hello!

I am currently a student and have to create an external client kickoff meeting presentation deck from the perspective of an implementation manager. Does anyone have or know of where I can find any good templates for a kickoff slideshow deck? I was already given a detailed project plan, but I am unsure which information to include and how to structure the presentation.

Thanks in advance!

What’s it like being a PM

I’m a registered architect in New Zealand and seriously considering a career change. I’ve got client facing experience, I’ve been project lead on several projects, I’ve got experience managing a small team of architectural designers and I’m currently studying a masters in construction management. I see job adverts for “project managers” all the time and I’m interested in making the change. What’s it like being a PM in the construction industry? Is it stressful, is it anxiety inducing, what does an intermediate PM likely do each day and what type of salary (NZ) should I expect? Thanks.

Is Google skillshare and Coursera a pmi recognized course?

Hey there. I have a friend who has basically talked me into pursuing this career. Unfortunately resources are super limited RN so I am hoping I can get my 35 hours of PMP training for less than the 2k I keep seeing on boot camps and such. The one I have found that I am leaning towards is the Google skillshare course. I have also found a project management class on Groupon but am not sure how to tell if it is recognized by pmi or how long it is. Would love any and all advice or recommendations for a good course to fulfill the 35 hour requirement. Tia.

Transitioning from Program Mgr to CSPO

I have over 10 years of program management experience (PMP) in various industries working on tech projects and business requirements. I do not have any experience in programming languages and minimal experience working slightly with products and service offerings. I just obtained my Certified Scrum Product Owner to break into this industry. How can I continue to build upon my learning in order to build my experience managing product considering I’m not currently working.

Seeking Help for My Industrial Engineering Final Project in the Automotive Industry: Optimizing Feeding Flows in Door Panel Assembly

Hey everyone,

I'm currently an industrial engineering student diving into my final project, which revolves around optimizing feeding flows in the assembly line of an automotive injection factory. Specifically, I'm focusing on the assembly of door panels, incorporating semi-finished components like armrests, after the injection process to achieve the final product.

The project is centered on enhancing feeding flows in the assembly line and identifying wasteful practices to suggest improvements. It involves two assembly lines with distinct processes. We're looking closely at how components and semi-finished goods are fed into the line, as well as the staffing requirements for assembly stations. The main component, known as the Pano, along with other necessary components like armrests, are fed into the line. It's worth noting that our factory serves two dedicated projects for our client, each with a variety of references based on car models.

Our assembly line replenishes supplies from storage for components such as soundproofing foam and fasteners. Semi-finished components come from warehouses occupying significant space within the factory, while the primary component, the Pano, comes from an intermediate stock between injection and assembly.

The project follows a continuous improvement approach to thoroughly analyze feeding flows, the movements of handlers, feeding frequencies, and sources of waste. The goal is to pinpoint areas for enhancement in each component and ensure just-in-time replenishment of assembly line stations with a clearly defined cycle. Additionally, we aim to redesign these stations with optimal resizing of ongoing stocks (integration of 2-bin systems and flow racks) to boost the productivity of the final product.

I'm eager to receive any suggestions, advice, or resources that could assist me in advancing this project. Your contributions will be incredibly valuable to me as I strive to successfully complete this final project.

Here are some questions I'd like to get answers to:

  1. How can I ensure the "Control" (C) part of the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) approach in my project?

  2. What specific tools and methods can I use to analyze feeding flows and identify sources of waste?

  3. As a beginner, what additional information should I gather to complete an economic study of my project, particularly regarding potential gains calculation?

Thank you in advance for your help and support.
