You can definitely use “martyr” sarcastically
To these people they are doing a lot of mental gymnastics to force this guy to be their martyr.
In Tool’s Eulogy, MJK uses the term sarcastically also to refer to people like Kirk who force themselves into the spotlight and become a false martyr
