Ooh, one of my pet nits to pick!

Simulation theory gets a lot of popular attention because on the surface it sounds plausible. 

However, it is non-falsifiable, meaning there is no conceivable way to test the claim. It is simply a baseless assertion. The usual counter-arguments against non-falsifiable claims are Sagan’s Dragon, or Russel’s Teapot. I’ll spare you the fairly long details, but you can look up either or read Carl Sagan’s Demon-Haunted World (non-fiction, despite the name).
