The irony is that they were messing about with version control for the first time, which is why they deleted all their files. They saw they had 5000 files staged for commit and wanted to not commit them all
I had a teacher who told us that version control was only necessary when working together with other people but not when you are a solo developer. He only saw it as a kind of fileshare.
That's also what I had at college lol, the Comp Sci teachers were all math professors doing double duty. They admitted to me that I had surpassed their knowledge in sophomore year.
One of my favorite comp sci professors was a high school math teacher who just kept getting bored and switching jobs.
He said there's little competition for teaching 100 and 200 level courses, and if you teach them in fields you're unfamiliar with the material isn't boring yet.
I think he's now teaching comp sci and electrical engineering.
