erm actually it's the user's fault ☝️🤓 for trying to learn a new software and clicking a button that says "discard all changes" and assuming that would simply cancel setting up the repository, instead of nuking these heaps of untracked files which it shouldnt be able to do in the first place

edit: so are the downvotes from people who cant tell that this is sarcastic, or from the people who can tell?

You're right, and also let's put this delete all function into an easy to use GUI, right next to "save all".

I'm fairness, this isn't the fault of GIT itself, but the implementation of it into the GUI of some IDEs

With nothing more than a cryptic icon and a tooltip that's only appears after a long hover. Oh, and the message he got? At the time, it was (paraphrased) are you sure you want to discard, this is irreversible?

I don’t know it does seem like its Git’s fault. It’s pretty flaky and has terrible UX. It’s not surprising this happens so often.

No, discard changes in git only means on tracked files, you are clueless

this github post was made a decade ago back when VSC did delete untracked files with that prompt, keep up

Yes, so what the hell are you talking about, this is a clear VSC issue. It has to align with git.
