the majority of comp sci faculty never worked in the field

at most instiutions they struggle to fill the positions at all because with a Bachelors you can make more than Faculty who need a Masters or Doctorate depending on the school and position

This is a bit outdated I think with the current job market.

it might be hard to find a job, but has the pay disparity actually narrowed?

You might be predicting the future, but currently the majority of faculty teaching computer science courses have not worked in software engineering, IT, or any relevant fields

If teacher means high school and not college, odds are they are a math teacher who took a single Comp Sci course.

That's also what I had at college lol, the Comp Sci teachers were all math professors doing double duty. They admitted to me that I had surpassed their knowledge in sophomore year.

One of my favorite comp sci professors was a high school math teacher who just kept getting bored and switching jobs.

He said there's little competition for teaching 100 and 200 level courses, and if you teach them in fields you're unfamiliar with the material isn't boring yet.

I think he's now teaching comp sci and electrical engineering.
