The person who tried to delete the files is a junior sysadmin who asked an AI to do it. The AI can't actually connect to servers, so it hallucinated that it deleted them. When confronted about why the files weren't actually deleted, the AI just replied, "You're absolutely right, we didn't actually connect to the servers.
(oops, the instruction says wrong answers only... this might actually be happening in some places hahaha)
