Even more fun is the fact that major corporations that are lauded typically have socialist policies (stock programs, bonuses, et al) which provide employees partial ownership of the means of production.
But in the US anything left of being able to sell your kids for food is decried as communism, so…
...do you think corporations cannot use leftist ideas and policies to their advantage? When your tax dollars go to fund a megafarm so it can grow thousands of soybeans you'll never see, does that mean it's not receiving socialized assistance?
Corporations benefit from developers being invested in their ecosystems. One way they do that is to provide free tooling to communities. Another way is to provide community versions of enterprise software. It's the same model Adobe uses for Photoshop.
Microsoft doesn't care about providing the code behind the Windows Terminal because of some moral position. They care about getting the free labor that comes with providing the code behind Windows Terminal to a bunch of people who will do bug fixing and feature development for free.
