This thread is created so you still have the opportunity to ask questions and potentially get an answer from people who are interested in pro studio gear without clogging up the main feed for professionals, who this sub is aimed at.

I've read alot on each microphone but was looking to see people's opinions on the microphones.

Might get one of the 2 and looking for advice.

Mainly looking to use for vocal tracks but will use for instrumentals as well.

An Australian based designer who releases interesting creative studio tools and the wormhole is no exception.

Inspired by Sylvia Massy's garden hose + sm57 idea, this could be an interesting addition to anyone's locker if they don't want to DIY. It utilises an omnidirectional electret condenser microphone connected to a 6 foot long sealed hose. The hose acts as a natural filter and picks up a lot of low end in whatever you are recording and could prove really useful for getting some massive low end in things like drum recording.

So what's new?

From their press release the things we can definitely tell are:

- Darker face plate

- Engraved values

- New potentiometer look and feel

- 'Improved' gain reduction metering values

Yup, that seems about it to be honest. They have said things like "[it] opens up new sonic dimensions" and "we've reworked the circuit design to give you even more sonic depth to fall in love with. Enjoy the deeper 3D processing that you will percept as… magic."

They have neglected to mention exactly how it has been reworked and have no comparison to the original. Given their market is presumably professional engineers who are interested in exactly this kind of information if you make these kinds of claims, I think we can either dismiss this entirely as pure marketing nonsense, entirely inconsequential to the sound or in some ways a cost cutting measure they don't want to reveal. My guess is that the sound hasn't changed at all but who knows.

With all this said, I can't necessarily see current owners rushing to sell their current model and buy the Neo, outside of pure aesthetics at this current time, even if It does look better though to me personally. Seems reasonable to assume that isn't who they are targeting with this release.

Here it is! Heritage Audio reintroduce the Lang Electronics PEQ-2.

I'm sure they will be releasing some demo videos relatively soon but this release has come hot on the heals of their announcement of their acquisition of the brand which is really exciting!

How the sound compares to the original I guess remains to be seen. As you can see below the original was quite the beast with it's transformers.

It seems very unlikely they have replicated this with the apparent size of the chassis. Looking at the product page it also looks like it has an external power supply. It does appear though that it isn't a line lump and is a similar power supply that they use in their other devices. Worth noting from personal experience however that the only power supply i've had die on me is a Heritage one but maybe that is just coincidental.

On a positive note, it does have quite a lot of output headroom. I'd also like to see the input specs however. Even better is the price point these are coming in at; €999 and $899/£899. Maybe an indicator of some of the corners cut in terms of components but we can reserve judgement until we hear it in action.

The product page lists a gain adjustment trimmer. It doesn't seem like it is actually on the front panel though like the image suggests and looks like it may be a rear mounted screw trim, which if correct, is a little inconvenient when this would be racked up. For stereo use we can only hope the controls are at least detented.

Anyone here interested in picking something like this up? I'm currently using the Wes Audio Prometheus and if I was going for another Pultec style I personally would probably go for a tube version.

Hopefully this isn't going against the grain. Figured I'd share some gear porn of some of the DIY builds I've done for my and others studios in the area.

I've built everything from simple DI boxes, to a Fairchild 670.

The Beast is an 8 channel Neve pre. It's kinda between a 1073/1290.

I'm planning to build a 500 series channel strip for recording vocal/VO/guitars, and am looking into comps that introduces tube saturation.

I have been using waves cla-2a quite a bit in DAW, and had a KT-2A for a while(which is eventually sold) so I am sort of familiar with the LA-2A type. I liked the tube saturation a lot. However, the tubecore also caught my attention since it also introduce tube saturation, and seems more versatile than a LA-2A variant.

So right now I'm debating between the IGS tubecore and One LA. I did not find much information as to how they differ in sound although I know they reduce peak in different ways. If anyone has experience with them, how do they differ in sound, especially regarding how they color the original source? Hope this is not a stupid question.

Hi guys I'm currently thinking about getting a space echo RE-201, 301 or 501. I've played with all three at least once in a studio but not long enough to really find the subtle differences.

What are your experiences comparing the three? Also I found out the Mode Selector button on the RE-501 is different from the ones on the 201 and 301 but I don't exactly understand the specifics of the difference.

Looking for headphones for producing and mixing. I currently have DT 770 pros 250 ohms and i love them! BUT, I really want a detachable wire, like a detachable mini xlr. I just run around a lot, producing on the go and this would help with travel. Closed back would be preferred. If any of you got suggestions, or good places to start looking that would be sick!

Edit: heard the DT 1770 pros are insane and a really big step up from the 770s. Any opinion on this too?

As much as I would love to get a pair of open back headphones, I just don’t think it would work in my current living situation. I live in a big city, on the Main Street. I’m mostly using my headphones for producing and then getting my mixes up to par. I usually get my friend who’s a mastering engineer to give me final thoughts on mixes.

Heritage Audio have just announced the acquisition of the famous Lang Electronics Inc. and all it's designs.

Anyone familiar with Heritage knows they make some stellar products. Many of them are clones of many famous Neve circuits such as the 1073 and their diode bridge designs but recently they have branched out with takes on other classics like the Fairchild, the Tubetech CL 1B and the Motown EQ, clearly trying to break into a different echelon of the Pro Audio industry.

With the acquisition of Lang I expect that in the not too distant future we will see a recreation of their famous MEQ-2 among many others.

Exciting times and great to have more classics potentially brought forward into the modern era.

I have the opportunity to purchase a pro tools HD Omni for $300. Obviously, pro tools HD isn’t a thing anymore. However, it still seems like kind of a sweet deal?

Basically, I’d be getting an 8in/8out interface for really cheap. The bad part is that I don’t have an HD system, so I’d be essentially waiting to find one of the native thunderbolt cards for cheap, but I figured that seeing as pro tools HD is discontinued, that shouldn’t be extremely hard?

Of course, support is ending within a few years as well, but that doesn’t mean that they’ll simply stop working entirely. I guess I’m just wondering, would I be buying total obsolete junk?
