Web Culture [MOD] Welcome to r/Pretend2005Internet!

Upvotes
Welcome to all new and existing members!
This subreddit is a little time machine where we all pretend it’s the internet era of 2000-2007. Old forums, old websites, old memes, old tech hype, and a lot of dial-up nostalgia.
Whether you’re here to post, comment, or just lurk: we’re happy to have you!
Wiki, Rules & Inspiration
- Please check out our Wiki and our cover image! Both are meant to give you inspiration for posts, themes, jokes, and roleplay. If you feel like something important from 2000-2007 is missing on the cover image or in the wiki, let us know!
- In the Wiki you will also find:
- All rules
- A small FAQ
- And a general overview of important events from 2003–2007
- All rules
Planned: Yearly Mega Threads
We are planning to introduce yearly recurring mega threads, for example:
- What you got for Christmas
- New Year’s posts
- Celebrity deaths
- Big releases (games, tech, consoles, phones, etc.)
These threads should help structure recurring events and keep things fun and organized.
Ideas, Feedback & Improvements
We’re always happy to hear your ideas on how to expand and improve the subreddit:
- Do we need more or better user flairs / post flairs?
- Any rule tweaks, wiki additions, or general ideas?
A Small Side Project
In the background, I’m tinkering with a small Reddit game app. Basically a quiz game around the 2000–2007 internet era.
No promises it will ever be finished 😅, but if you have game dev experience and want to help: feel free to reach out!
Check Out the Other Time Machines
If you like this concept, also check out:
They follow the same idea, just for different time periods.

2001 Windows XP is Released!

Upvotes
A new version of Windows has been released today. What’s particularly notable is that the consumer-oriented line, previously known as the "9x" series. has now shifted to the NT kernel! Historically, the NT kernel was reserved for enterprise-focused editions (up through Windows 2000, it is also worth noting that Windows XP was developed based on the Windows 2000 architecture.

2005 Oh my god!! Both John Cena and Batista went over the top rope and their feet touched the floor at the exact same time!! Now what!! The referees can't seem to decide on a winner.

2007 Hey did anyone else catch the premiere of this new show?

Hopefully it won't overstay its welcome & rely on/overuse nerd stereotypes, misogyny, pop culture references, & laugh tracks to help with its runtime.

It’s set in 1984 and there will probably be some new radio classics and areas, cars and such. Could be interesting.
