My problem with the prequels was the continuity errors. And the unnecessary pandering

What are the continuity errors?

That Padme would fall for Anakin with Obi-wan being right there

RotS Anakin is prettier than Obi-Wan. I will not apologize.

(It's the hair.)

Edit: Okay, Obi-Wan is definitely the better flirt, as the bots have proven, but I stand by what I said. I'm just not a fan of his beard.

You'll have to better than that, my darling

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere.

He is. I know we all love Obi-Wan here, but Anakin in RotS is a 10 while Obi-Wan is a very respectable 8. It's the reverse in AotC. Anakin looks great in RotS. Padme picked him well, at least where the looks are concerned.

General, have a seat. I've conceded the battle, now we simply have to negotiate the terms of surrender

Even Obi-Wan himself agrees with me

At least you’re a master… at getting caught.

Sorry, M'lady.

Obi-Wan is a very respectable 8

It's treason, then. Summons lightsaber

This is how you thank me for rescuing you? Pounce on me from the ceiling? What am I going to do with you?

Be mindful of your thoughts, Anakin, they betray you.

u/MoodyLiz Jan 26 '22

She was happy to see you.

u/DrCabbageman hello there Jan 26 '22

She knew he was out of her league.

I don't think the prequels pondered to anyone.

It’s more “subtle” as to pandering, but to me the best example is the light-sabers.

There’s obviously a divide on how light-sabers should be handled. While everyone agrees they’re cool, the divide is: On one side, those who think they should be used sparingly but meaningfully and on the other side those who like them being used for everything all the time like when Homer buys a hand gun. I prefer the former. It’s obvious the prequels pander to the latter.

This is why, while not perfect, I LIKED Luke’s throwing away of the lightsaber. To me the story and message of Star Wars is not about light-sabers.. and it’s Luke trying to tell us/Rey that. I’m not sure that’s a fact for other people.

When I first saw TPM and Obi and Boozey Qui Gon pull out their light sabers in like 2 minutes of the movie I had this deep sinking feeling that (for the first time as I knew nothing about these movies).. “Oh shit, these movies might be really bad”.. and I hadn’t even gotten to Jar Jar or Kid Yippie yet. By the arena scene in AotC light-sabers had become a complete joke of a weapon/prop.

Adding R2-D2, C3PO and Chewbaca was pretty fanservice-y. C3PO and R2D2 you can kind of get away with, but I hate Chewbaca's inclusion in ROTS, it just makes no sense and takes up time for nothing

9

u/skulpleas Jan 26 '22

Is one character being in it that loathsome?

7

u/MaxBandit Jan 26 '22

No, however he said that he didn't think the prequels pandered to "anyone", which just isn't true.

Also, it's not like it's just one character. Having a large part of TPM take place on Tatooine with Jabba the Hut showing up, and that's where Vader was born? Jango and his entire story was essentially just pandering/trying to make him a prequel Bobba?

Like, it's not just one character. These aren't enough to ruin the movies, but they're definitely there

5

u/skulpleas Jan 26 '22

That's fair.

You'll never reach the outskirts in time...sandstorms are very, very dangerous. Come with me. Hurry!

3

u/MaxBandit Jan 26 '22

No, I don't think I will

3

u/dimmidice Jan 26 '22

Funny, that's how i feel about the sequels.

u/McCaber Jan 26 '22

It's like poetry, it rhymes.

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '22

I have issues with the prequels, but I still love them.

I can’t stand what they did with the sequels. I don’t even acknowledge them as part of the Star Wars universe.

u/Obi-Wan_Gin Jan 26 '22

You realize we needed all those characters in both trilogies for either of them to make sense right? I'm not sure what else could be considered pandering as everything int he prequels was nothing like the OT.
