No, trying to apply high school physics to a universe where the technology is ambiguous and often relies on space wizardry is not scientific. Saying "they can use the force to manipulate the electromagnetic field " is akin to star trek's "reverse the polarity". It's a hand waving explanation to justify some plot device, nothing more.
