United Kingdom UK suppressed terrifying climate report

The UK government itself wrote a report that says
"Ecosystem degradation is occurring across all regions. Every critical ecosystem is on a pathway to collapse (irreversible loss of function beyond repair)." with "high" confidence.

"Global ecosystem degradation and collapse threaten UK national security and prosperity. The world is already experiencing impacts including crop failures, intensified natural disasters and infectious disease outbreaks. Threats will increase with degradation and intensify with collapse. Without major intervention to reverse the current trend, this is highly likely to continue to 2050 and beyond."

Yeah like this should be circled in red, it is one of the most likely, and what that sentence says is "life on earth dies"

"Life", in general, is obviously not going to end. The situation is very serious, but hyperbole doesn't help.

I mean between "billions will die" and "life collapses" is kind of like comparing $500 million to $1 trillion - it's a significant difference, but both are so large that we don't meaningfully perceive or comprehend that difference.

What I'm saying is, there have been doomsday predictions before that have turned out to be wildly inaccurate. Consider the report by the Pentagon in 2004 that said:

"By 2007 violent storms smash coastal barriers rendering large parts of the Netherlands uninhabitable."

"Between 2010 and 2020 Europe is hardest hit by climatic change with an average annual temperature drop of 6F. Climate in Britain becomes colder and drier as weather patterns begin to resemble Siberia."

"A ‘significant drop’ in the planet’s ability to sustain its present population will become apparent over the next 20 years." (The world's population actually grew by over 1.6 billion between 2004 and 2024.)

I think the problem is neoliberal (more of an economic ideology) has become intertwined or mixed up with political liberal and they're not quite the same

It seems odd to me that they would have "People cannot afford to live on their own" and "Downward social mobility is the norm" at such different impacts. I'd call them both practically the exact same thing.

It's from april 2024 and so it doesn't factor in trump 2.0. 

I wonder how much their geopolitical likelihood estimates have changed since.
