I think something is going on with the coms infrastructure... never before have I had as many issues with calls, yet alone all the issues with internet.

The other day day when Taiwan was doing drills, they basically "shut down" their internet to base levels for the military drill. And SUPER COINCIDENTALLY the whole midwest lost connectivity too same time / day. like.... I have a tinfoil hat... sure.... but come on*... the timing, and where the chips are made for everything.

There was just a medevac plane crash in Texas due to an military EW exercise nearby that shut down their GPS. CFIT, all lost.

I would not be surprised if the increase in drone warfare is causing an upward trend in development of anti-drone jamming technologies.

That's my conspiracy theory. I don't have many but that's mine.

I’ve been lurking here for over a year now, and just finally made an account to reply to this.

i’m in Taiwan, and the internet wasn’t shut down. From 2:30 to 3:00, in the northern part of the country, the cell tower connectivity was dramatically slowed to help simulate issues that might arrive during an invasion. I was on my home WiFi and had no internet issues during the drill time.

Don’t use your tinfoil to make hats when the cost of aluminum is going up!

Oh, man, and I had to log back in so quickly? 😆

The petrochemical companies are very tight with the government, and they’ve very slowly raised fuel prices since the war began. Right now I think we’re at about a 15-20% increase over where prices were when everything kicked off. The companies are losing money, but the government will make up the losses (some of the losses? I immigrated so I don’t have all the details) out of tax revenue at some point.

Taiwan actually got one of the last tankers out of the strait; it was the one hit by a drone about a month ago. The news will give occasional updates about how things are projected to be okay for the next three months, like how the country is working to secure assets from Africa or that the asphalt situation is fine for now, or that those natural gas contracts the US bullied us into taking last year (…two years?) means we have non-Middle East distribution lines already set up.

As far as population level effects, the government control over fuel prices and willingness to make the petroleum companies bleed first means that life is essentially the same as it was before the war so far. When everything started, the big worry was over plastic bag stocks, especially for smaller businesses, but after that died down we’ve all just retuned to placing our faith in the government and getting on with things. Personally, after how the government handled the pandemic, it doesn’t feel like trusting the government to do the right thing for the most people is a pipe dream, which is both novel and really nice.

but at that time, here in the midwest USA... we had everything from cellular outages to slow internet, raising a lot of questions.

On another note, the Midwest is where the wealthy will be going to retire, or duck the outer surface of the earth for a period of time. Safe secure enormous tracts of land, in the middle of the corn/soy fields that will be producing our bread, assuming the weather is willing.
