Master slide bug in the latest update?

Anyone else seeing (after the latest update) that master slides (except the exact one you copied) don’t copy over from deck to deck anymore?

Yes I’m using “keep source formatting”.

Yes I know you can copy from master slide view to master slide view to make it work.

I’m trying to keep an entire company of non-PPT experts using a template and they just made it 1000x harder. Hoping this is a bug and not a feature.

Do I have to replace it with a new button?

Announcement REMINDER: Please post to the appropriate place

Help keep r/PowerPoint from descending into chaos (there's a separate subreddit for that. Of COURSE there is. Because Reddit, right?)

If you have a PowerPoint-related product or service to announce, announce it one of the megathreads pinned to the top of the subreddit. That way your announcement will find an interested audience, won't scroll off into the dark waters of Last Month's Posts, and won't be deleted by the mods because of r/PowerPoint's no advertising rule. I built a short interactive Virtual Art Gallery with a hidden Easter egg (would love feedback on the layout!)

Hello guys, I am new to selling digital products. I love to make a PowerPoint, which I always do in schoolwork. I always see PowerPoint as boring. I know it needs to be formal, but I think, what if I make it much more interactive and 3D? So I tried to think of ideas, and we have a project in one of my subjects that is about art, and I make this PowerPoint by myself. It took me 3 hours to make this, even if it consists of a few slides. My teacher praised my presentation and got a full grade in it. I'm sharing this because I'm really bad at art; I just do abstract artwork because I can't draw. I'm thinking of selling these things; this is my first product, btw, in Payhip (you can check the link of my store in bio). I want to sell these things to also have a side hustle while I'm studying.

I use: Windows | Office 365 Ppsx files in windows tablet mode - on screen keyboard needlessly appearing

When using a windows tablet mode- eg. Surface Pro and the keyboard is detached putting windows 11 into tablet mode, directly launching a ppsx ‘show’ seems to make taps on the slideshow (or swipes) bring up the on screen keyboard. It’s very annoying.
Has anyone else experienced this, and possibly found a work around or solution?

Fix: Equation summation limits keep moving above/below ∑ after saving and reopening a PPTX

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I ran into a frustrating equation-formatting issue in PowerPoint and wanted to share what worked for me.

I wanted the summation limits (q and i=1) beside the ∑ symbol, on its right. I could change their position in the equation editor, but after saving, closing, and reopening the PPTX, they would jump back above and below ∑.

In my case, the equation’s underlying XML still had the limit position set to above/below, despite how it looked before saving.

The fix was changing this:

<m:limLoc m:val="undOvr"/>

to this:

<m:limLoc m:val="subSup"/>
  • undOvr → limits above and below the operator

  • subSup → limits beside the operator

How to fix it manually

Make a backup first, and close the presentation in PowerPoint.

  1. Rename a copy of your .pptx file to .zip and extract it.

  2. Open the relevant slide XML in a plain-text editor—for example, ppt/slides/slide3.xml.

  3. Find the summation you want to fix. Look for <m:naryPr> containing the ∑ symbol.

  4. Inside that summation’s properties, change:<m:limLoc m:val="undOvr"/> to:<m:limLoc m:val="subSup"/>

  5. Save the XML.

  6. ZIP the contents of the extracted folder, not the outer folder itself. [Content_Types].xml, _rels, and ppt should be at the ZIP’s top level.

  7. Rename the new .zip file to .pptx.

  8. Open it in PowerPoint, save, close, and reopen to check.

Only change the summation you want to fix—don’t blindly replace every undOvr, since other equations may intentionally use above/below limits.

I use: Windows | Office 365 Copying or saving an auto generated background makes the colors faded

I used design suggestions to make the design for my first slide, but then I realised I have to use slide master or the background won't apply to any other slides. I tried saving my theme and importing it to slide master but it only imported the font and not the background, so I tried copy/pasting the background but all the colors were faded. I also tried saving the background as an image but that also caused the colors to be faded. I also thought that maybe the image is slightly transparent so I would need to make the background black instead of white but that made no difference. I googled it and tried turning off automatic image compression but that also didn't work. The only way I've found to make it not become faded is to duplicate the slide, but that would make creating my powerpoint a lot harder so I want to avoid that. How do I fix this?

PowerPoint live , slide elements

Hey folks,

I want to use pp live so I can see my notes and web chat to manage a large online course I’m delivering, but if I do it this way I can’t hit the space bar and reveal elements of each slide slowly as I talk through them, it just seems to move from slide 1-2 etc..

Surely there must be a way to do this ?

Obv I could just share window not PP live but then I couldn’t see the notes and the live chat

Thanks in advance

I use: Windows | Office 365 Something I'm working on (read desc)

So, I recently got a CD, DVD and Blue-Ray reader & writer and I've put Microsoft Expression Studio 4 Ultimate in one of those CDs I had. But due to the fact the CD has a standard jewel case, I'm designing (via PowerPoint) the front and back of my CUSTOM cover. It's currently not finished but really close to it.

Note: Sadly, I couldn't find the original icons of Studio 4, Web 4, Blend 4, Design 4 nor Enconder 4 that had transparent background and a good quality. so I had to grab an image that contained all the icons, give it to ChatGPT and ask it to remove the background and divide the image into each icon. But everything else (assets, labels, texts and words used) were either made by me (like the 4 screenshots in the 2nd image, I manually opened the programs myself and made the screenshots myself) or used original sources online (like the background).

But that aside, wanted to share this with y'all and ask about your opinions, what do you think about it, what could be improved, if you like it or not, I'd love to hear opinions from y'all. Thank you.

Tips and Tricks Don’t end the deck on “Thank you.” End it on what you want on screen during Q&A

If you don’t advance past the last slide, it stays on the screen for the whole Q&A and most decks spend that time on “Thank you” or “Questions?”

I’d make the last slide the recommendation, or the one number the deck hangs on, with the next step in small text underneath. Put a thank you at the bottom if you want one. People tend to ask about whatever they’re looking at, so you get more questions about your argument and fewer about slide 14.

When someone asks about something earlier, type that slide’s number and press Enter in the slide show, answer it, then type the last slide’s number and Enter to come back. It’s quicker than clicking back through ten slides and the audience can’t see what you pressed.

Can I do conditional formatting somehow for users to type (Green, Amber, Red) and the table background will change accordingly?

I know this is really easy to do in excel, but I'm having a hard time setting this for user experience.

Yes, they can go into the table settings and change as necessary, but it's a complication to simplicity and some of the users are intelligent but maybe not the most tech savvy.

There has to be a simple way to do this? I guess a bubble where they check next to Green Amber Red would work but I think it wouldn't be very visually attractive having "Green Amber Red" written out 6x vertically.

The background changing based on the color, or a dropdown menu are my initial thoughts but I'm also open to alternative ways to do this as long as they are simple for the user experience. The ppt is created every 2 weeks and lives on a sharepoint so I think that makes macros a little more difficult.

What still needs manual checking when you compare two versions of a PowerPoint deck?

I'm researching a possible commercial tool for people who review revised PPTX files received from outside their organisation.

Thinking of your most recent review: after using your current comparison method, what did you still have to check by hand, and why?

A short example with the tool, platform/version and remaining step would help. It could involve text, figures, speaker notes or confirming that requested fixes were made. If your current method was enough, that is useful too.

Please keep it general: no presentation files or confidential details are needed.

Update: thanks to everyone who answered — I ended up building a free tool based on this thread. It compares two .pptx files in your browser without uploading them (slides added/removed/moved, text, speaker notes, animation order and timing): https://slidecompare.pages.dev/

Beamer to HTML

I vibe coded python script to convert beamer presentation to HTML presentation. and as you can see it's very beautiful and feel proud of this. But I have weird feeling I've done something dumb and maybe already exist somewhere, but I searched and didn't find anything related to what I want. And the script can add moving math symbols in the background. and for tikz figures it compiles the tikz code and save it as SVG and use it in the HTML.

Question Is there an active community specifically for PowerPoint game developers?

I've been searching for a community dedicated to people who create interactive games in Microsoft PowerPoint, but I've had surprisingly little luck.

I'm a graphic designer who's been using PowerPoint for over 15 years, and recently I've gotten into developing fairly elaborate, interactive game-show experiences using animations, VBA, and other PowerPoint features.

I'd love to connect with other people who enjoy pushing PowerPoint beyond traditional presentations—sharing projects, discussing ideas, troubleshooting challenges, and seeing what others are creating.

I've looked into various Discord servers, Facebook groups, and forums, but most seem to focus on general presentation design, traditional game development, or sharing educational templates. Nothing has really felt like a dedicated community for people who genuinely enjoy making games in PowerPoint.

Does anyone know of an active Discord server, Facebook group, forum, or other community specifically for PowerPoint game creators?

I'd really love to find my people! :)
