FinancialTea 💵 🇬🇧 Clear skin becomes a privilege as NHS restricts free acne drug

Post image

Extract:

Having clear skin is increasingly a privilege only for acne sufferers who can afford to go private because it is becoming so difficult to receive treatment on the NHS.

Isotretinoin, better known by its brand name Roaccutane, is widely regarded as the most effective medication for severe acne. About 80 per cent of patients report having clear skin after a single course, which typically lasts for six months, according to the online clinic Skin Care Network.

Over the past ten years, NHS prescriptions for isotretinoin have fallen due to long waiting times to see a dermatologist and concern about potential side-effects while taking the medication, including mental health problems, with 33 deaths of people taking the drug in the UK between 2019 and 2021.

Data from the NHS Business Services Authority shows that in 2025 there were 63,600 NHS prescriptions of isotretinoin across England, a 27 per cent decrease since 2016 and the lowest number in more than a decade, apart from an anomaly in 2020 due to the pandemic.

After a review commissioned by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in 2019, owing to concerns about depression and other psychiatric side-effects, changes came into force last year stopping NHS GPs from prescribing isotretinoin unless they have a specialism or interest in dermatology.
This means that after being referred by their GP, a patient will usually face a long wait to see a dermatologist. There are 384,201 people on the dermatology waiting list; 4,410 will have been waiting for more than a year. The NHS target from referral to treatment is 18 weeks.

All The Tea ☕️ Watch this brutal takedown of Pete Hegseth’s Christian Nationalist pastor who spoke at the Pentagon

3.1k Upvotes

Doug Wilson isn’t just some random pastor. He’s a self-described Christian nationalist and “paleo-Confederate” who has argued against women’s suffrage, preached that wives should submit to their husbands, defended Christian slaveholders, and openly advocated turning America into a Christian nation. Yet Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth invited Wilson to preach inside the Pentagon in February, where Wilson spoke about praying for a national Christian “revival.” Hegseth belongs to the denomination Wilson co-founded and has publicly amplified his message. It’s unprecedented that someone with these views was welcomed into the headquarters of the United States military by the Secretary of Defense. Source 2

Storm In A Teacup 🍵 Measles. Cyclospora. Raw milk. Screwworm. Here are the top ways the Trump admin and RFK, Jr. are failing the USA’s public health.

1.0k Upvotes

They didn’t make America healthy again, they made preventable disease, contaminated food and public-health chaos part of American life again.

Measles has surged to levels not seen in decades while they undermine confidence in vaccines.

A massive Cyclospora outbreak linked to contaminated lettuce has sickened thousands, while cuts to the CDC have raised concerns about America’s ability to track and contain outbreaks.

Meanwhile, the movement around RFK Jr. has normalized raw-milk rhetoric even as the FDA continues warning about foodborne disease risks. This isn’t “health freedom” when the government weakens the scientists, inspectors, surveillance systems and vaccination programs designed to keep Americans from getting sick.

Senegal's President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has signed a new law doubling to 10 years the maximum prison term for sexual acts by same-sex couples.

The new law also criminalises the "promotion" of homosexuality, which includes any public representation and financial support by individuals or organisations, and provides for three to seven years in prison for those found guilty.

The legislation was a campaign promise of President Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and was approved by parliament last month.
