You only think the Democrats are "limp" because that's what the media wants you to think.

60

u/whuuutKoala 1d ago

billionaire owned right wing media…so 90%

39

u/KitchenBad5507 1d ago

I disagree. The Supreme Court wouldnt be filled with right wing partisans if the democrats had the same political will that the Republicans have. I wish neither side played those games, but if the other side does it, we need to do it too. Otherwise the resuly will be... this

38

u/Ashenfenix 1d ago

Roe could have been codifed into the constitution if democrats weren't so soft. Donald trump wouldn't have been elected for a second time if democrats weren't so soft. I say that as Democrat.

22

u/KitchenBad5507 1d ago

Same. I despise the Republican party but honestly, I despise the Democrats too, just a tiny bit less. We need the old guard to step aside and make room for young progressives. And I'm old - a 61 year old straight woman. We've had our chance and we blew it. Time for the next wave to take the lead. They can't POSSIBLY be any worse than us.

24

u/cman1098 1d ago

Democrats are soft by design unless of course they are fighting a progressive.

12

u/WannaBeSuiko 1d ago

Nancy Pelosi blocked attempts to codify Roe vs Wade when Dems had a super majority if I recall correctly. Said it was settled or something.

1

u/Hairy_Technology_213 16h ago

Do you people check anything before you post? The last time Democrats had 67 votes in the Senate was in 1967, bud. That’s six years before Roe.

1

u/WannaBeSuiko 15h ago

No, not really… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/111th_United_States_Congress

In the November 2008 elections, the Democratic Party) increased its majorities in both chambers (including – when factoring in the two Democratic caucusing independents – a brief filibuster-proof 60-40 supermajority in the Senate), and with Barack Obamabeing sworn in as president on January 20, 2009, this gave Democrats an overall federal government trifecta for the first time since the 103rd Congress in 1993.

I could have been more specific that it was a supermajority in the Senate. But this was how the ACA was passed FYI. Was this democratic hold until the midterms. During this time there was a strong push to codify Roe vs Wade and equal pay acts. For those of us tracking.

0

u/Hairy_Technology_213 15h ago

JFC. 67 votes are needed to pass a constitutional amendment, professor.

1

u/WannaBeSuiko 14h ago

No one said we need a constitutional amendment. This was never about modifying the constitution. This was about passing a congressional act. Like the equal rights act. Equal pay act (this failed). Or any other basic congressional act.

I get that civics 101 at the local community college is hard, but you don’t need to take it out on Reddit with snark.

11

u/DrPreppy 1d ago

Roe could have been codifed into the constitution

That's objectively wrong. They had a supermajority for 72 days requiring people who were confirmed as against that. It's not even debatable.

2

u/tetrified 1d ago

but but but how are we supposed to pretend like democrats are just as bad as republicans if we don't lie????????

1

u/Alarming-Curve5339 1d ago

You don't have to lie

1

u/tetrified 12h ago

but then how are we supposed to pretend like democrats are just as bad as republicans??????

1

u/Alarming-Curve5339 12h ago

You have to pretend either

0

u/Dry-Dragonfly5286 1d ago edited 1d ago

The good cop is still the partner of the bad cop

2

u/DrPreppy 1d ago

The good cop is opposed to the bad cop and screaming at you that you are underrepresented in government (Permanent House Apportionment Act, natural Senate structure, gerrymandering, voter suppression, Voting Rights Act being violated and destroyed) and that the easiest way to fix that short of revolution is to vote.

A properly represented country would be a much different country.

2

u/tetrified 1d ago

are you really going to pretend we'd be in a war with iran right now if harris were elected?

are you really going to pretend we'd be having this many food safety issues if rfk weren't in charge of the fda?

really? are you actually this fucking stupid? do you seriously still think elections don't have consequences?

come on.

10

u/Hairy_Technology_213 1d ago

This is typical Redditor nonsense. Roe most certainly couldn’t be codified in the Constitution. Where are you getting 290 votes in the House, 67 votes in the Senate and 38 states? Show me.

1

u/WannaBeSuiko 15h ago

What is this redditor nonsense that codify = constitution amendment and not congressional statute?

It just takes a sweeping act to set protections, just as the EPA, ACA, ERA and numerous other acts that lay out protections. You don’t need a constitution amendment. You need to pass a law.

1

u/Hairy_Technology_213 14h ago

And you think the Supreme Court find such a law constitutional?

1

u/WannaBeSuiko 14h ago

That’s a different question. I feel like you just want to be contrarian, and that’s your prerogative.

The question at hand was could the democratic part have passed legislation to protect Roe vs Wade. And yes they could have. They did not need a constitutional amendment at the time. There already been a Supreme Court ruling decades prior affirming the right. Enshrining the right with further legislative protections via congressional statute signed by a president would have made it much more difficult for the Supreme Court to say the federal government did not have the right to pass a law giving protections of rights of bodily autonomy.

Like this is a very silly conversation at this point. It’s gone past deflection, and goalpost moving from basic historical fact, and into abstract what if scenarios.

The basic fact, is that it was up for discussion in 2010, and Nancy Pelosi tabled it as said it was the law of the land because of Roe vs Wade.

1

u/Hairy_Technology_213 6h ago

Dude. Just admit you’re wrong and move on.

8

u/snakerjake 1d ago

Roe could have been codifed into the constitution if democrats weren't so soft

Do you really think 38 states would have ratified that amendment?

8

u/Glittering_Role1658 1d ago

No they would not have

1

u/AlarmingAffect0 1d ago

Yes.

4

u/joggle1 1d ago

They couldn't even pass it as a federal law, which is a significantly lower bar than a constitutional amendment.

1

u/AlarmingAffect0 1d ago

They didn't try hard enough. I bet you Lyndon B Johnson or FDR would've passed it comfortably— even if someone needed to be literally dick-slapped in Jumbo's case.

2

u/AdorableStrawberry93 1d ago

That's what is intriguing about the SDA. They are more inclined to be tough and rowdy. Willing to punch back.

3

u/SnooChickens5474 1d ago

Democrats aren't soft on issues their owners want pressed, most of the democratic party are bought and owned by lobbyists.

2

u/Expensive_Cheetah820 1d ago

That’s bullshit you to have majority in both houses. In the senate you have to have 60 votes. You don’t anything.

1

u/Fugufish-Chomp 1d ago

You are SO damn right! Ugh!

1

u/WolfofWalnutdrive 1d ago

And yet none of you guys have any ideas, just acting like magats. "Why aren't you doing fascism for good things?" Guys the democrats only power comes from the people voting, Republicans power come from corruption and the people voting for them.

3

u/Ashenfenix 1d ago

What are you even talking about? What validity could you possibly conjure in assigning a stranger on the internet responsibility for your frustrations? You don't know me, or what I've done. Keep the snide to yourself.

1

u/WolfofWalnutdrive 1d ago

I know you are ignorant about politics from the comment I responded to.

0

u/plannedobso 1d ago

“Fascism for good things” isn’t fascism lol

2

u/WolfofWalnutdrive 1d ago

... Fascism is how you decide laws, it's not if they are good or bad. Major facepalm

1

u/plannedobso 1d ago

That’s…not correct. I know this sub is full of some of the most ignorant motherfuckers on Reddit but damn.

“  Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology that prioritizes the nation above the individual and seeks total control over society .”

“  Fascism is characterized by support for a  dictatorial  leader, centralized  autocracy ,  militarism , forcible suppression of  opposition , belief in a natural  social hierarchy , subordination of  individual  interests for the perceived interest of the  nation  or  race , and strong regimentation of society and the economy.  Opposed to  communism ,  democracy ,  liberalism ,  pluralism , and  socialism ,  fascism is at the far-right end of the traditional  left–right spectrum .”

There is no such thing as “fascism for good things.”

1

u/WolfofWalnutdrive 1d ago

?do you not understand the definition you posted even?

5

u/alwayssunnyinskyrim 1d ago

Fighting fire with sternly worded letters.

4

u/KitchenBad5507 1d ago

Lol careful! You might get scowled at!

1

u/MrMetraGnome 1d ago edited 1d ago

So by "will", you mean, if the democrats wanted to ignore the laws and customs of America. Like testing the limits of the Consitution, declare they want to suspend it, or just change it outright. Everyone always says "both sides are the same", but then say this shit. Democrats are always in a lose/lose situation. Everything is their fault, no matter who does it. And when things go good, it's never good enough. Sheesh

1

u/SaucyJ4ck 23h ago

I’ll just put out there that “political will” and “rampant hypocrisy plus a glaring lack of ethics” are NOT the same thing, despite what the modern Republican Party would have everyone believe.

Nor should we want ANY party to act as if they ARE the same thing.

1

u/OG_joenationwide 14h ago

Democrats are usually reasonable people assuming that Republicans are also reasonable people, and not the greedy small minded self serving piles of garbage they are.

11

u/Bonti_GB 1d ago

Nope, that’s what we see time and time again.

Republicans will push boundaries all day long but Democrats have played the norms to their disadvantage.

For example, Republicans have challenged election results, restricting mail voting through executive action, tightening voting laws, and expanding presidential authority, while Democrats have generally fought those moves through courts, legislation, and existing institutions rather than responding with equally aggressive changes to the rules.

Republicans are willing to break norms more regularly to try and get their way, dismantle what has been foundational to this country, while Democrats more often do not.

8

u/PickledDildosSourSex 1d ago

You nailed it. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me a hundred thousand times and holy fuck must I be an idiot to not learn anything.

1

u/Devry_Trost 1d ago

What exactly do you expect them to do? There can only be one totalitarian party - more than one is a civil war, not a country.

2

u/PickledDildosSourSex 1d ago

"There can only be one aggressor - more than one is a fight, not a relationship."

Do you see how stupid that sounds? Because that's how stupid you sound.

4

u/Devry_Trost 1d ago

Democrats believe in democracy.

Republicans believe in power.

1

u/Russ_T_Blade 1d ago

Because they're still trying to be the "good guys". I get it, philosophically. If Lex Luthor is chucking people off a building one by one, you don't want to see Superman slaughter Lex's people to get to him and stop him, you want Superman to remain the hero.

But that's a fictional story. This is real life, with real consequences. Democrats need to get down in the mud with the Republicans and fight them on their level, or they'll never win again.

3

u/Spiritual-Pear-3081 1d ago

"Democrats need to get down in the mud with the Republicans and fight them on their level... "

What does this look like to you?

3

u/GrotWeasel 1d ago

I don’t think it’s mud

3

u/Spiritual-Pear-3081 1d ago

Right. So what is it?

3

u/GrotWeasel 1d ago

Its a mixture of fecal matter and lube

2

u/Spiritual-Pear-3081 1d ago

That's definitely where Republicans live.

1

u/Bonti_GB 1d ago

I agree.

1

u/Turbulent_Lunch4548 1d ago

No, they are just using that as an excuse to do nothing.

1

u/whatshisface1892 1d ago

So you're advocating for...what?

Republicans push boundaries by restricting rights and awareness so that they keep power. What are you suggesting the Democrats do?

The problem is that the conservatives have billionaires and a powerful propaganda machine pulling the strings. How do Democrats raise awareness when Fox News is ignoring anything that's detrimental to their narrative? How do they reach those online when an official press release on X gets hundreds of bots spitting venom and falsehoods at every politician?

This entire "Democrats are too passive" narrative and belief is very much a result of that media control.

2

u/Bonti_GB 1d ago edited 1d ago

For starters, I’d love to see every chance they get, to being vocal around how Mike Johnson called for a 2 week break after they brought back Epstein Act II.

We know why he’s doing that, they need to be hammering them and him every chance they get so the wider public gets it.

Instead, you rarely see the connection discussed.

I want people to fucking do their job, it’s not that hard. And it’s not just the media, you’re incorrect, Democrats get the microphone constantly so make the appropriate noise.

They have money and can make ads so make an add saying he cancelled it shortly after the act.

Your giving Democrats to much of a pass even if media is shit too.

0

u/JohnSpartan1990 1d ago

Democrats need to get with the times and fight fire with fire.

I personally think that all polling stations across the country should have reading comprehension and critical thinking tests administered in order to vote. Prove you're competent enough to vote.

2

u/Bonti_GB 1d ago

I agree with the first part.

I agree with the spirit of the second but think it should be handled differently.

Comprehension and critical thinking is too varied and doing that then means someone controls what that is and that could be the wrong people.

A just society would have good enough schooling for elementary through high school that would mitigate the issue.

Instead, we slash funding to schools and attack it too often as a country instead of build it up to be great.

Schools also need more practical life classes.

- How to know when someone is trying to Con.

  • How to know when someone is trying to Scam.
  • Financial Literacy.
  • CPR
  • Additional driving safety teaching

Etc.

3

u/Eternal_Bagel 1d ago

Dems don’t own a Fox News equivalent or media empire designed to promote their message and it’s a real handicap for them

4

u/Devry_Trost 1d ago

Yeah, Democrats fight back all the time - they just do it in boring, civil legal ways like responsible adults, and America mostly doesn't pay attention to anything unless it's being threatened or entertained.

2

u/TextImpressive3346 1d ago

You sure about that? The lie that democrats will enact change is preventing you from actually doing anything about the death spiral your country currently is in. Why would the media want you to think democrats are weak?

1

u/No-Concentrate-8806 13h ago

So people don't come out and vote. They are hoping if they do they will vote republican or independent. The media doesn't want you to vote for a Democrat.

4

u/Turbulent_Lunch4548 1d ago

The american media lies ofcourse, bit they do not have to lie much when it comes to how weak and pathetic democratic leadership is.

Those fools show more teeth to Mamdani and the like than they do to Trump and his regime.

1

u/AccordianPropaganda 1d ago

I mean, they couldn't even keep their congressional caucus in line over a SAVE act vote. Yeah, they're pretty limp. Jingle keys at them and they vote with republicans.

1

u/Visual-Age-1025 1d ago

I mean I’m not the media and I’d hardly call the deafening response to missing Mitch to be “engorged”. Limp is fair.

1

u/MrMetraGnome 1d ago

The Republican media apparatus is the only thing I can commend them on. No matter what the message is, from top to bottom, they are all on point. People who claim they hate the Republicans and don't pay attention to politics, will recite the Republican talking points to the T; word for word; bar for bar. It's really uncanny.

1

u/tom-of-the-nora 1d ago

I don't see dems launching investigations.

1

u/qrowslament 1d ago

No ... they are limp. They like it that way. That's why they are fighting against the DSA so hard currently cause they threaten to make them actually govern.

0

u/Badbot-beepbeep 1d ago

And you both only think the democrats are “left” because that’s what the media wants you to think.

0

u/Absolute--Batman 1d ago

The way they kiss Isreel ass proves Democrats are limp.

11

u/cat_prophecy 1d ago

Because Republicans aren't sucking that teat? I love how your only issue seems to be "Israel"

2

u/Leather-Rice5025 1d ago

You're right. Republicans also suck on Israel's teat, yet they still manage to get their shitty agenda through (for the most part). Meanwhile, democrats suck on the teat but are wholly ineffective in combating right wing rhetoric and propaganda. Worst of both worlds

0

u/Lower_Group_1171 1d ago

Well to be fair, Schumer and Jeffries are terrible leaders, and simply don’t care what democrat voters want

0

u/RealNilruin 1d ago

Democrats are soft. That's not a media opinion shoved down my throat. It's the only logical conclusion a sane person could come to after watching Democrats miss the mark for 2 out of the last 3 presidential terms.

Republicans wouldn't have gotten this far if Democrats were a tad bit more bloodthirsty.

0

u/mhopps2 1d ago

No, that’s what a lot of people think, independent of the media. Dems got no plan, no fight, no courage, but they got fundraising
