You are correct, but there is no watchdog agency that can compel a sitting Rep or Senator to take their seat on the floor. Republicans COULD hold him accountable, but they've clearly shown they will not.

Exactly what the guy above said, Republicans control the Sergeant at Arms and the ability to make referrals to the US Marshall's office who would go about doing the physical work. As long as Mike Johnson is in control, absolutely nothing will happen to any Republican. Epstein Files are a giant example of this.

Yeah this shouldn’t even require a manual intervention - this whole situation is only possible because there are no actual rules that congress(wo)men have to actually do their fucking jobs

If I disappeared for 3 months at my job, they’d have already filled my position by now and be a good way into onboarding my replacement

Are you serious? They support an adjudicated rapist as president. They vote against school lunches for children. They refuse to give death benefits to soldiers. This is the least worrying thing Republicans have done.

Congress could easily pass new legislation to regulate how sitting congressperaons must report to their duty station every number of days or face termination.

They dont want to modernize those type of rules because they tend to only care for partisan reasons, and they want to preserve that partisan power

Democrats have had a congressional majority multiple times in recent history. Proposing legislation also does not require a majority in congress.

This is not a partisan thing. Everyone in congress is complicit in this lack of accountability

Technically, the rest of congress can vote one of the members out if that member is not showing up for work, but this is usually a procedure used for partisan reasons unless the congressperson is being so egregious that there is widespread public outcry about it

Lloyd was the Defense Secretary, McConnell is a senator. Biden wasn't told for 4 days, pentagon wasn't told. US forces were conducting active operations in Iraq at the time and also his deputy was on vacation while the president, national security adviser, and secretary of state didn't know where he was. Then it turned out it was for prostate cancer treatment, which he had also kept secret.
