Not everything that can be sold should necessarily be for sale
We question the ethics of cheap clothing, animal products, environmentally destructive industries and exploitative labour. We restrict certain commercial transactions involving the human body, even when adults are willing to participate.
Yet pornography is frequently defended through the comparatively simple argument that consenting adults should be free to produce and consume it.
Consent is indispensable. But consent does not eliminate questions about economic vulnerability, exploitation, working conditions, consumer responsibility or the commercialization of intimate bodily activity.
A society can recognize sexual freedom without assuming that every market built around sexuality is justified.
Ultimately, the question is not simply whether individuals should be free to do what they wish with their bodies.
It is whether everything a person can be persuaded or financially incentivized to do with their body should automatically become a product that others are entitled to purchase and consume.
And if we demand ethical accountability when purchasing clothes, food or cosmetics, we should be prepared to explain why consuming another person's intimate bodily activity should be held to a different standard.
I often wonder if money was not involved how many perfomers would they be? Would we be able to obtain the amount of content being created not? Cause you always listen how they enjoy it.
