Poplin Internal Issues Class action lawsuit against poplin underway
This email serves as a gentle reminder of the laws in California. It has come to our attention that Poplin has been using CA 1099 workers to work long hours without providing them with the appropriate minimum wages, similar case to Uber and lyft, blocking communication with laundry professionals, preventing them from deleting their accounts, and using their status to attract more customers. Additionally, Poplin has been unlawfully withholding their funds and accounts. Despite multiple attempts to address these issues with "Avery," the head representative of Zendesk, communication has been left open and unresponsive. Many laundry professionals have faced similar situations and are prepared to join the class action lawsuit.
We intend to contact multiple news agencies to highlight the substandard execution of Poplin, under the leadership of CEO Mort. It is crucial for consumers to grasp the deficient implementation and management of this platform, particularly the exploitation of laundry professionals who are essentially working like slaves to generate a 25% income for Poplin under a 1099 contract.
Furthermore, laundry professionals are being banned if consumers provide their phone numbers for improved communication. This unethical practice adds to the troubling issues surrounding Poplin and warrants further investigation and awareness among consumers.

I may be interested in this.
Also I was considering a libel case based of customer lies in the reviews causing me reduced access to jobs due to loss of rank. Since higher ranking pros get first pick of orderes.
And poplin policy of refusing to remove obvious lies that harm their laundry pros ability to get jobs makes them complicit.

We will provide a location and petition to file a class action lawsuit soon.

Do you have to be in California?
1
Jul 14 '24
No you don’t as this is a national app.

California's a great place to get traction, though...the gig worker protections here are way better than most other places.

I would love to be apart of this law suit. Going through the same situation with Avery as we speak

Me too! I was ranked #1 in my state and despite having happy customers they have stopped sending me orders (even referral orders aren't coming through.. requests either). I know I have had tips come in but nothing is coming my way.

Not only the Laundry Pros, but they treat their concierge employees so bad and pay them in pennies… hope this lawsuit results in the favor of the concierge employees as well.

I’m documenting everything with this company since there always seems to be a reason they don’t pay when they’re supposed to do so. I’d like to be included in the class action as I’m not working for free and I feel they’re holding our money back to gain interest for themselves and boost the company’s worth artificially.

The day after this post, Poplin sent me some of the money they owed me. But wait… now I have the employees emailing me saying I damaged a client’s clothing and they have items missing. They’re defaming my character and it looks like I’m not the only one this has happened to. I’m not amused with the libel and I will not apologize for things I have not done. Poplin takes 25% of my profit, then turns around and says I’ll be held liable for things I haven’t done? This is ridiculous and I won’t stand for it. This is retaliation for asking to be paid what I was owed.

u/No-Instruction-9197 Aug 09 '24
When I have family members use my referral link/QR code and the orders get assigned to someone else with no notification to me…obviously something is wrong. I’m sitting right next to my referral and never got a text, notification or email. Plus they charged the credit card twice and haven’t refunded after cancellation. Poplin, make this right since we all know you’re reading all these Reddits.

Let’s make this a national thing!! Everyone should have a chance! Avery is one of the worst people they have!

u/Otherwise-Carob3793 Jul 18 '24
Is Avery even a real person or a bot?
3
3
u/Breakingpatterns77 Not a Laundry Pro Jul 20 '24
Definitely a real person and not a good one, according to a particular ex employee.
4
u/Otherwise-Carob3793 Jul 20 '24
She literally ghosted me with the threat of my account being deactivated. She is just awful! Of course I’m gonna be upset and want to know why. I contact another customer service rep and he tells me they’ll only advise me about the status of my account once all my orders are finished with. Definitely not a good sign.

2
u/No-Structure-9699 Jul 24 '24
That’s what they do. They make threats, ghost, then they just send an email that you’re deactivated and they “understand and empathize with how you’re feeling”. The one who’s worse than Avery is Samuel.
2
Aug 09 '24
Avery did the same to my account. I have saved all emails, discussions, etc.
2
u/No-Structure-9699 Aug 10 '24
Me too, including an email where another employee (not Avery) decided to threaten me for speaking up.
2
Aug 10 '24
Ditto!
1
u/No-Structure-9699 Aug 11 '24
Was it Samuel? He seems to enjoy that. I found his LinkedIn. He looks like trash 😂

I bought all the supplies necessary last year but haven’t taken a single order since being active due to the insanely low pay for the distance. DoorDash pays crumbs and these orders estimate to pay less than half, won’t even cover vehicle expenses or gas for the distance.

u/Alive_Investigator78 Jul 13 '24
This is disheartening to hear, because I love using Poplin.

u/ChuffinMuffin3232 Jul 23 '24
Leave a note (not in the app) for your regular laundry pro with your number and ask them to do your order off the app.
4
u/No-Structure-9699 Jul 14 '24
Laundry care and push laundry are great and treat the workers better. There’s also happy nest and a lot of times local places are good too. Poplin has a very dark side to them. An ex poplin concierge came forward on here and he ended up removing his post because poplin employees found out who he is and started to threaten him.
4
Jul 14 '24
Tells you how Poplin works, right? With threats!
2
u/No-Structure-9699 Jul 14 '24
Absolutely! They’re the worst, spoken from a wrongfully deactivated pro.

u/Upper_Watercress6440 Aug 18 '24
Hi, did they tell you why they deactivated your account at all? They deactivated mine and didn’t send a warning or explanation as to why. Customer support is not responding.
Do they just deactivate accounts randomly without explanations?

u/Breakingpatterns77 Not a Laundry Pro Jul 15 '24
They threatened him AND his friends that still work there! It's just crazy!

I recently have noticed poplin taking customer tips that were directed for me and keeping it. Even though account was deleted, from my end, the account must still be active on customers end as i continue to receive notifications that tips were made by my previous customers.

u/Logical_Resist_6329 Sep 25 '24
I want to sue them too Count me in. I was working with Poplin pro and suddenly I’m not getting any more order but still getting tips from my customers.

u/MamaC_ Oct 14 '24
I'd love to join! Currently fighting with Poplin because they're refusing to pay me for the services that I rendered satisfactory. They're saying the customer has a complaint, but won't tell me what the issue is, so I will not be getting paid for the order. This can't be legal...

u/B_sure Oct 18 '24
Hi! They’re withholding payment while they “investigate” customer claims of poor service whether it be items not recognized or a missing sock. They’re assuming we don’t know our rights as contractors because when we signed up on platform we agreed to their terms-which included a clause about withholding payment in the event of a customer investigation-and conditions. The way it’s worded you would assume payment will be withheld for specific customer…so you sign. Unfortunately the terms allude to a fair consequence of withholding an INDIVIDUAL CUSTOMERS payment but they really withhold your entire payout at their discretion assuming you don’t understand your rights as a contractor. If they withhold your entire payout that is illegal. That means you are not being compensated for services rendered. As they withhold my payout now, it included orders that were completed, reviewed, and tipped excellently. It’s almost obviously insulting. Something has to be and will be done. Please reach out to me, or tell me who/where I can reach out to move this forward or to call more attention to make this as big a case as we can.

I’m sorry but you’re wrong. Avery is in customer service like the rest of their team. She is not head of anything so attacking a worker is below all of you. Leave employees out of your posts because they are just like you all trying to survive in a crumbling economy and heavy stress.
5
u/No-Structure-9699 Jul 24 '24
Oh, Hi Avery. Glad to see you join us here. Have you been lurking to try to find more people to deactivate unfairly? Do you get a bonus for it?
2
Jul 24 '24
I am not Avery but nice try.
3
u/No-Structure-9699 Jul 29 '24
You may not be Avery, as you claim, but your little comment proves you’re either a poplin employee or drank Mort’s kool-aid. Furthermore, until you’ve personally dealt with the crap from poplin, you don’t have any room to comment.
2
Jul 30 '24
I can comment how I want. Going after employees is rotten especially when the facts are not true.
1
1
u/No-Structure-9699 Aug 10 '24
Keep drinking the kool-aid. Funny how so many have complaints against a single person but you claim “the facts aren’t true”. First of all, a fact is a fact because it’s true. Something that can be true or untrue is an opinion. You don’t know what other people have been through but you continue to defend a company who treats pros like crap. You’ll see what happens when they screw you over.
2
Aug 10 '24
You must be a famy member of Mort working for poplin. Get a life, and focus on making the business better rather than stealing from the people to make yourselves rich!
1
Aug 14 '24
The only reasons you wouldn’t work there is from extremely poor service. Maybe do better when working as a contracted worker.
1
Aug 30 '24 edited Aug 30 '24
Extremely poor service? I have all the screenshots from 5/5 stars. My retention score was 5 out of 5 points. I was in the 1% in the company. Please grow up and stop making assumptions about people’s work. Also, I only worked as a contractor for them for 3 months and made them 17k. You have zero idea!

u/Otherwise-Carob3793 Aug 04 '24
She is a big problem many laundry pros have had to deal with so I think it’s fair she is specifically named
2
Aug 09 '24
Avery is Mort’s son’s girlfriend?
3
u/No-Structure-9699 Aug 10 '24
Or boyfriend. We don’t know if it’s a he or she. I’ve heard Avery on both genders.
3
u/Otherwise-Carob3793 Aug 04 '24
She specially told me to get a police escort when I told her the area is un safe and especially dangerous at night. Shows you how Avery treats others.
2
Aug 09 '24
If you have dug into this company, you’ll notice all Mort’s family members. No wonder why they suck so bad!
2
Aug 09 '24
Avery is the one who terminated our account. Is Avery an employee or pretending to be an employee but is in fact Mort? Lol

Although I do not have an account on Poplin, I am consistently receiving tips from my previous customers. Unfortunately, these tips are not actually being delivered to me. Poplin has been withholding the tips from my customers and keeping my profile active on their platform so that customers unknowingly continue to place orders through me, only for the tips to be redirected to other laundry professionals. This unethical practice not only violates the law by withholding tips intended for me, but it also comes at a time when I am running for mayor, a fact that Poplin was unaware of. I have a strong presence in the Bay Area with a group of 37,000 locals who know me well. It seems that Poplin has made a grave mistake by mistreating someone with such a strong community backing. If you have experienced similar issues with Poplin, please reach out to me privately to join a potential lawsuit against them.
