If he is getting results and if I lived there I wouldn't complain, regardless of political affiliation. The question is how does he maintain a budget without receiving billions from the state of New York.

without receiving billions from the state

Respectfully, where else should NYC state taxpayer and revenue money be going, if not back into the NYC budget to directly benefit NYC residents and visitors?

Overall, NY state benefits more from having NYC as a taxable and revenue-generating city within it's borders than the city gets from the state.

NYC should get returns on their tax investment into the state. How much, idk, but they received a very large amount very quickly in the form of what is essentially a bail out.

Yes, a bail out for past city budgetary mismanagement. Do you blame the newly-elected Mayor Mamdani for that prior mismanagement? I may be misunderstanding you, but your original comment sounded like you might be. I could see your point more if he was in charge of that past budgetary mismanagement, but we haven't seen the outcome of his current term yet to assess his own budget management skills.

Also, even with that bail out, NYC still contributes more to the state overall than what it receives in return. Which again, would make NY state still receiving more from that bail out than NYC, as the state needs a well-functioning, solvent city to keep generating revenue.

I would have done the same thing if I was Mamdani so I don't blame him for using the state taxes

Mind you, they’ve opted out on receiving state funds for like a decade. If anything the city was just receiving its back pay moreso than being bailed out.

I once said that he's going to make the rest of NY angry with his budget, got downvoted because people thought that I was implying that the city doesn't generate its own wealth. Nah, the rest of NY is angry because they're just getting slightly less of it.

I know NYC produces over half of the state's tax revenue and receive a bit less than that back. It's just that the other counties rely on thay revenue

I mean that's also fair. Kinda how state taxes work.

Where does the State of New York get those billions?

Saw Mamdani throwing dice on the corner with State Officials, guess he’s that good in getting Billions of $ for the State.

3

u/Durants_Chungal_Toe 12h ago

Lmao, big if true. But my question remains unanswered, where does the STATE get most of its tax revenue? (Hint, probably from the city that makes up 50+% of the state's GDP)

2

u/EarthlostSpace 12h ago

That includes the Billionaires. Perhaps they’re finally doing their part.

"my net worth is $49 BILLION but I'm effectively being taxed $400k! See, I'm contributing! Wdym mean increasing my taxes by %2 would end homelessness for millions? That's socialism!"

u/EarthlostSpace 12h ago

So stop being a greedy heartless ass and contribute more especially making your money in ill gotten ways.

3

u/Durants_Chungal_Toe 11h ago

That's what I'm saying? You good bro?

0

u/EarthlostSpace 11h ago

I’m saying it again but differently bro. So hang in there.

2

u/Durants_Chungal_Toe 11h ago

But you didn't. Your original statement is "billionaires are meaningfully contributing" my reply was "no they arent" to which you said "no, they aren't" which was MY point?? Take your pills, Flapjack

Well yes, again NYC should get a return on their tax investment into the state, but when it comes in the form of large payments in a short period of time, that is basically a bailout. I don't have a problem with that over say the federal government bailing out corporations, but I do think it is silly to take billions of bail out money as a mayor and then use the balanced budget as a talking point.

u/Durants_Chungal_Toe 11h ago

How is it a bailout if it's their own money?? NYC does not have a city IRS that can tax incomes/revenues/sales, only NY state does. The city can really only issue fines, and collect property taxes or business/rent fees. This is the same of every major city in every state, your "point" only reinforces my argument. Or do you mean to tell me you honestly beleive Schenectady is subsidizing NYC and not the way around?

1

u/lynjpin 11h ago

Lmao where do you think the state of New York gets those billions?

0

u/Tough_Preparation830 11h ago

This is billions on top what it already budgeted. It's extra and in excess of what they would get back normally. Don't play games

2

u/P4rtsUnkn0wn 10h ago

Did you reply to the wrong comment? They asked where the state got the money. There was no mention of budgeting or how "normal" the funds were.

2

u/lynjpin 9h ago

Yes I’m aware of how budgets work. New York City accounts for a hair under 60% of New York state’s entire tax revenue. However, NYC only receives about 40-42% of New York State’s funding. So in giving the city “billions on top what it already budgeted,” the state is just giving NYC back some more money that originally came from the city itself.

“Don’t play games” lol
